in 8 years of recording the beatles did what now one will ever do again. have 27 number ones in that amount of time.that isnt even counting they're solo careers paul had 9 number ones, john had 3, george had 3, and ringo had 2 making the beatles as a group and as solo artist they're number one count is 44. no one not micheal jackson, not elvis, not mirah carrey no one ever comes close LONG LIVE THE GREATES BAND EVER!!
While I agree that some people obsess over minutia, I believe there is some validity to the distortion claim. Last year, I purchased expensive headphones designed for studio musicians. I decided to try them out by listening to the bass guitar on "Come Together." I was disgusted by all of the distortion that I heard in the "1" version, which was remastered for that album. Later I compared it to the '87 version, which sounds amazing. Hot mastering is an unfortunate fad.
Just a warning for anyone with ears ... the stereo "remasters" sound absolutely terrible. There are sibilance artifacts throughout. There is a high pitch squeal on many tracks, most significantly 'wild honey pie" on the white album. There's a bass and presence boost which renders the vocals and midrange in general weak and ill-defined. The '87 CDs, while having their limitations, sound MUCH better.
The engineers who committed this crime should be shot. I've never heard worse sounding CDs.
Don't be ridiculous. There is no sibilance or "high pitched squeal". The remasters are a little louder, turn down your equipment if it can't handle a slight volume increase without distorting.
My system does not "distort" at listening levels. The distortion has been introduced by a very sloppy "remastering" process. If you can't hear the screeching it's because you haven't an ear. But listen to "Piggies" ... the line "in their starched white shirtSSSSSS ... if you don't hear the sibilant distortion on the plural of "shirts" you may as well not bother listening to music.
Such introduced distortion artifacts exist throughout. That's one that even tin ears can hear ...surely.
Unfortunately you are retarded, and you're a drama queen who must have a hissyfit over non-existent artifacts every time a remaster comes out, and must comment their invalid opinions on every youtube vid. If you are hearing distortion and screeching you need to fix your system and/ or get a hearing test.
When I posted the last comment I thought to myself "I bet this pompous retarded old faggot has no life and and sits there waiting for replies to his comments and there'll be a response within 5 minutes.". Congratulations.
@diezungen the Beatles remasters, especially the mono mixes (which is how the Fabs & their team intended us to hear them), sound awesome...your comments are uneccessary
anyone when the price in the UK will go down to US levels? I am a poor student and don't fancy forking out the full £169.99 it costs here! GAHHHHH....
Nothing special about these new re-masters besides the fact fans will finally get what they pay for, after billions + units sold to the public.. for decades now, which were not transfered from the original masters..3rd? 5th generation maybe? oh please..shame on the industry. This could of been done years ago, too bad Mobile Fidelity didn't have the chance to do so back in 90's. Are we gonna to have to wait another 20 years for the 24-bit masters? don't to us no favors.
The Beatles CD's came out in 1987-1988. If a proper remastering had been done back then, they would not sound that phenomenal. Understand that technology was not as advanced as it is today. I think the wait will be worth it. Either way you are going to get compressed sound on CD. They should re-issue all their albums on vinyl records. Those would sell like hot cakes since vinyl records have made a come back.
"The Beatles CD's came out in 1987-1988. If a proper remastering had been done back then, they would not sound that phenomenal" ..Very True, i remember early releases of Jimi Hendrix's catalog which sounded terrible. not until 97 it was revealed the original masters weren't used. Beatles catalog though could of been properly mastered in the 90's, level quality Japanese CD's are known for, for years now, or like with Mobile Fidelity. Then again like you said it will still be compressed. Sadly
I get 2 thumbs down for speaking the truth. Just goes to show people some people really love the CD format. Which is cool cause everyone has their own preference. I don't mind playing CD's. They are convenient.
I'll be buying the stereo box set, but it doesn't look like I'll be a fan of the packaging... i hate those cardboard cd cases, the cds get scratched sliding in and out of the cardboard.
That's the only thing I don't like about it as well. The cardboard takes too much wear and tear and I should expect to scratch the discs just using them normally. They say it's "eco-friendly". How is it when you cut down trees to make paper? I'm thinking it's to save the weight on shipping. It's probably cheaper to ship 100,000 cardboard sleeves than plastic cases.

I spent twelve years working as a recording engineer. If you are satisfied with these "remasters", then fine. But those who can hear will not be.

Who cares, the Beatles only have like 200 good songs, anyway.
stevets01 2 years ago
Dude, The Beatles recorded and released 212 songs.
Johnnyguitar1234 2 years ago
I was just guessing the number. It's more like 211 considering Revolution 9 isn't really a song though.
stevets01 2 years ago
i compared some of the new remastered tracks with some tracks i have that are ripped from lps. the remastered versions are just louder, that's all.
