The more I listen to Art Blakey, the more I'm forced to re-consider what I think are "essential" jazz recordings. "Kind of Blue" used to be my default recommendation for newbies, bur after hearing "Drum Suite" I've been forced to re think that default position. "Motherfucker" comes to mind every time I listen to Art Blakey and his band of accomplices. This music is SO "Jazz". It practically leaves a stain.
You are right, an atypical tune and therefore one of my favourites, I´ve been looking for it for quite some time. Morgan is said to have dedicated to his Japanese wive Kiko Yamamoto. Thanks for posting!
A beautiful piece that led me to explore more of Lee Morgan's work (the composer), I wasn't disappointed.
