So cool to see this spot, I've been up that side quite a few times, just a PIA climbing that hill, unless you know a way to drive right up to it. I usually park down right out of the tunnel and walk up
@b18cyacrxs It definitely is, but it's well worth the effort every time. There aren't many places where I would rather spend an afternoon than this spot. And I know there's a way to drive in via that ATV trail the opens out to the tracks right at the 242 milepost marker, but I have not the slightest clue where you can access that trail from the road. I've been wondering that for a long time now that I think about it.
@easy620r That would be "Lost Innocence" by UnSun off their The End of Life record. They're a great band out of Poland, every song on their two albums rocks from beginning to end.
@ns2527 Well, not exactly. The closest CSX activity to me is around the New Haven area and that's not much at all. I typically get my CSX fixes up on the B&A in the Berkshires or over on the River Line in the Hudson Valley. Currently I'm at school in Boston so I see enough action on the east end of the B&A when I go out shooting. I'm from Southwestern CT actually though my uploads don't exactly suggest it. I was actually just out a chasing P&W freights on the NEC a few days ago while I was home.
yeah railfest my bagg it was june 25 09 man u r so luckly i am in ny so i don't get to see ns like that i miss trains so bad i grew up in wva on ns pokey man i thank the lord for yall they way i can;t keep up
yeah i love them emd loco when they be screaming up the mountain do u ever railfan other places check out my pa vid
Haha it's cool man, I hear you. Although the majority of the vids on my channel say otherwise, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm a New Englander, and right now I'm alternating between living at home in CT or at college in MA, so I don't get out there all that much either. Last time I'd been there was back in October for the foliage (I highly recommend going the 2nd/3rd weekend in October for that, it's awesome), but I'd been in the Altoona area 4 other times in 2009 before then. Go figure hahaha.
the day i was there the was held up for i guess they call it CONRAIL historial society special but i was able to catch PRR E8 leading the its train down the mountain and when you film at horseshoe the trees around the curve also play a part but i was able to get a train in the hold curve man i was hoping to catch a pair NS sd70m-2 lead a hotshot up the mountain i would have lost my mind lol
Oh, you mean Railfest? Backin the summer right? They always run excursions with Bennett Levin's PRR E8's on Railfest weekend.
No M-2's huh? I remember a day back last February where me and my friend Marc (NS6677) were watching trains down in Johnstown, and every single westbound pig/stacktrain had an M-2 on the point. Haha, it was MADDENING after awhile!
its so hard to pick where you want to film from at horseshoe it has so many spot it is crazy i fanilly giot to go and i lost my mind altoona to love it get video i just sorry i didn't catch none the intermodals
Haha man oh ma do I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. I personally find the park itself to be one of the hardest locations to shoot trains that I've been to. If the PRR geep wasn't right smack in the middle, it'd be easy! ie, I go to the "handles" now whenever I go to the Curve to watch trains.
I find NOT catching any intermodals around Horseshoe to be pretty impressive in itself. Usually that's all you get going west once you hit the afternoon.
Oh it DOES man believe me, check back to my channel soon and you'll see some of it, I was there about a month ago, the leaves were pretty damn good as far as I was concerned.
I'm trying but cant get anyone who's willing to take the trip.. Go Figure... -.- But Oh Well, i could always just make a trip down the Port Perry Tunnel!
What an awesome video! No better place to be than there sweating it out. Thank you AIC for all your work. I LQQK forward to seeing all your video's. Great Job!
THANKKKK YOU!! Glad to see people enjoying my work. I havn't been uploading as much as I should be, but I have a BUNCH and I mean a BUNCH of good stuff coming, so keep posted and you won't be disappointed.
But you wouldn't have known it this weekend. Granted I didn't set foot in the park ITSELF, but from both overlooks that I went to (I was up on the east side the day before) I didn't hear one chirp out of that thing.

Damn I need to get out to Horseshoe Curve some day. I bet that place looks awesome when fall foliage is at it's height.

conrailforever1999 2 years ago
About 15-20 minutes, about half of that being "stuck time" where I couldn't move very much haha
