  • Just wanted to say thanks for the video and for the song....The song was a surprise....one of my favorites....Are there any pictures of David? When I eat in the Multi Cafe near the park, I like to listen to the music they play....I think it's mostly old popular music from the U.S.

  • CS so glad you liked it, that song is one of my top favorites, so I tried to dare use it here, tho a different country, it reminds me of trying to get home. Right now David pics but hopefully after April.

  • Eso si es mi Panamá! Ay chihuahua. :o)

  • me gusta el video... la cancion nohhh!!!

  • goncort02, I respect your feelings. Did you watch the video all the way through, where I stated the song was not about Panama? It just touches my heart, that song, someone travelling across borders to return to his love... like me for a country.

  • I love Patacones!

    Panamena<--

  • YUM! My mom used a rock to smash them, the old fashioned way. She was such a good cook.

  • yes i di am thinking of going there in dec

  • December is a great time of year to go. Book the flight NOW though, as it fills up fast.

  • i use to live in albrook back in the 80s

  • Coolio! Sounds like you have good feelings about your time there.

  • Indeed. :)

  • I LOVE PANAMA!!!

  • Me too!!!!

  • HAh cool I was afraid you forgot me:D I had to come by and get my Panama fix again, I missed you though, last time you didnt have any self stuff on here, its cool to see you btw we also have 2 wolves i'll be posting on here in the next couple days I think you'll get a kick out of these 2 charchters hah and BTW this sone fits this vid perfectly !!! couldnt be a better match, it reflects how I feel to the point and then some, very soothing

  • How'd I miss your comment here, hon? I'm sorry! And yeah, the Panama fix is running thin for me right now. I need to get on a plane.

  • HAHAHHHHA its me hearsekid, remember me?? I m glad I found this vid again I dunno what the hell happened to it on my favorites, I hope your doing well, nice to see you again

  • I surely do remember you, babe, who could forget your username and a hearse? ;)

  • extraño el sentido de vida en las calles de panama...el hombre que vende raspado, las señora quevende ensalada de mango y la otra persona que vende esos platanos secos con ketsup...ah y el hombre en el bus gritando pa donde va el bus

  • Parada! When I first got to the US, being too hearing impaired to hear the bell on that rope thingie, I had no idea how to stop the bus. hehe. What I would give for to see the raspado man. Ketchup???

  • bonito mi panamá!!!!! viva panama

  • Yes, yes. Thank you for leaving this beautiful comment. Panama is indeed so special, so unique, so proud to be from. Texas is too far away. lol

  • I see you are from Arraijan... big changes going on there and everywhere. San Carlos, I went to, but they wouldn't let me to the beach :( You gotta see Amador. They put a new section out on the side, like at the marina.

  • Yes, we each show our love of our home a different way. All is good, though, because we both love it there. It has been two very long years for me. How about you?

  • flame, did you see the comment just above yours? It explains. It is not immigration, it is one man who wishes to see the woman he loves. The song makes me think of my emotions returning home. That is all. And in the video I remind the viewer of that. Don't get too mad at me, I'm from Panama too and have my own right to what I make, about my own home. :)

  • Song sucks! Old Mexico? Who the fuck picked that one?

  • Obviously I did. If you look halfway through it reminds you that the song is not about Panama. I chose the song because it is one of my favorites and it talks about someone wanting to cross a border to his true love.

  • In fact the guy who used to wait on us all the time at NAPOLIS used to live in a apt right on top of the place, he had a crazy mustache, we used to sit outside on the outside part by the sidewalk, used to be alot of beggers that would come up and ask for bread, OMG they had the best bread!! im seriously going back I jus made up my mind lol

  • TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this I remember my dad taking me downtown to Napolis pIzza and Gorgus army hospital and shopping at del ray then id get shipped off to my mom in LA but good times for sure lol!!

  • Oooooooo Napoli! Wasn't it great, with that huge brick oven? Were you sick, so you went to Gorgas? I hope not. It seemed an odd trip after Napoli.... LOL! Will you ever go back to visit? How old were you then?

  • ;)NAh , I didnt get sick after Napoli's, one of my dads friends was at Gorgas cause he wsa in a motorcycle wreck getting onto the bridge and he was in traction there, and I was like 6 or 7 I think then, I would love to go back there, I remember fishing with my dad on lake Gatun and we'd sit under the bridge for the railroad in the middle of the lake and catch like 80 bass, that place was great!! If I could Id go back in a heartbeat

  • Whoa, you were only 6 or 7 and you hit two of the TOP places for Canal Zone folks. Not sure if you were there during the Zone or not. Gatun was (and is) a hot-spot for fishing, sounds like you got it! Meanwhile, I was learning to drive over that bridge on top of you... oops.

  • What do you mean you arent sure if I was there during the zone? IDK what you mean by or during "the zone"lol sorry.I kno when I used to stand in back of the hospital he worked at, I could see over the whole valley an saw the begining of the bridge. There used to be avacodo trees in the back and I used to hit them off with rocks for my dad. I remember that BMX track we had on that base two lotsa jumps~!

  • Sorry I was in a hurry to type, I meant I recalled the the BMX track on the base that had lots of jumps...:)

  • It used to be the Canal Zone, with U.S. bases in certain parts of it. The rest would be civilian Zonian areas. Now all of both have been given to Panama. If he was in the Army there, working at Gorgas, I'm guessing you were there before 1979?

  • LMAO before 1979? nope, lol I wasnt even a zygote in 1979, it was the end of 89 or 90 when I left and I had to fly back to my mom in lA, they are divorced, used to have to fly AVIANCA airlines there by myself both way, OMG MAN i hated that airline, i always thought the plane was going down lol

  • OO yeah he was in the Air Force not the Army lol

  • UGH!! im trying to put this vid at the top of my page and I accidently removed it from my favorites in the process

  • Go blue!

  • heh, a zygote. So you were on either Albrook or Howard AFB. The areas in between were the former Canal Zone and the Republic of Panama. It was a three-some. :P

  • Yeah it was a 3 some I guess =), and we were on Howard AFB, I remember Ft.Kobbe right next to it, there used to be a road that cut thru the jungle from the hospital at the top of the hill and went down to Ft.KObbe on the left man we were all over that base

  • Hi to a fellow Zonian, I don't know them but the CZbrats have a message board where you can put in for missing people. CZbrats dot com

  • Please, Panama has also very nice song, will be better if you use Panamanians music. Thank you for your good feelings by my country. Nice video, Thx

  • Yes, it does have lovely music. I liked this song, though. It was wonderful going home, I had missed home so much.

  • I hopped freighttrains back in the summer of 86. Me and this crazy texan rode em' all through west texas and down into mexico, across the baja and eventually into sacremento. i'll never forget this song going thru my head during the entire trip. god bless mexico, and panama too, tho I 've never been there.

  • Your trip sounds so good, I'm envious.

  • Great video! I was just missing my old hometown and your vid hit the spot. Think I will go a fry up some patacones! Wish I had a recipe for arroz con pollo and some cold Cervesa Panama! Thx

  • :D

CZbrats has all sorts of recipes up.

  • Iam sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset. I am from Panama too. It is just that everytime anyone try to do something about Central America or any other Hispanic country..they will mention MEXICO. This really make people from here that we speak MEXICAN..believe it or not, this is what they think.

  • We can definitely agree on that one. Like you, I have seen that more often than not. Most folks think Panama's culture, accent/language, and food is just like Mexico. I guess we can't blame them, since the tv media usually just gives Mexico. Sad, that.

  • Hey, I am very impress with your video, it is so beautiful, like I said before nothing wrong with the video. I did cry when I saw it. So much to remember..

  • I'm glad it touched you with the photos. When is the last time you returned for a visit? It is hard to be gone.

  • Sorry, I didn't answer your reply last night, but went to bed!! :0) The last time I went to Panama was 1996 How about you?

  • LOL, sleep is wonderful, isn't? I could nap all day, if possible. I last went in November of 2006. It was difficult to get me back on the plane.

  • Such a beautiful country, for someone like you to destroy its beauty by the incompetence way that this video was made. Many songs can be used as a background; Salsa for example is one of the most traditional music that Panamanian people are used to dance. To represent the country in a better or professional way chose "Folklore Music background" it will give a better impression.

    Thanks

  • I did not destroy anything, if you actually watch the whole video. Hey it's my home, so I would never destroy it.

  • Also gaby, you make a good point about the traditional music. I wanted to do something different, to capture people's views, since all the others have the traditional music. Just a bit of difference, with again, the reminder that the song is about Mexico and the music is not. Best to you.

  • Listen, I don't really need to get with you about this, obviously you just made a video and there is nothing wrong with it. You need to be more careful the way that you express about other people's culture and to be more specific when it comes about music. If you need in the future...some music let me know..I have plenty. When I mentioned to you about destroying other culture is because you need to read more about a country first then see what kind of comments you can make...

  • Who, let's not get ugly. I was born and reared in Panama. It is my home. Did you not read that in my other comment? I have no need to please you with my videos. I choose them and the music the way I wish. Many make videos about U.S. with music from Europe.

  • First, you do not plan to make special documental slides on any country and then used as background music from a different country. Your subject here is Panama. Second, you do not show any video with a reminder message as this is a song about MEXICO but the pictures are not! INSTEAD OF SAYING, THESE PICTURES ARE ABOUT THE REPUBLIC OF PANAMA BUT THE MUSIC IS NOT!! HELLO!! Panama is your TOPIC.

  • I put that in a glaring page that accounces the music is about Mexico. I just loved the song so much that it made me happy. And if you watch it again, all the way throgh you will see my announcement. :)

  • Why don't we both chill out and just think of what a great country Panama is.

  • you right, my apologize if I make you upset. I was just trying to make a point.

    Thanks for the video.

  • Fantastic!!!!! Great Job! I was born in Balboa in 63' when my mom was 24 yrs old(?). Mom was born and raised in Balboa, Panama...name was "Mary Smith". Post a comment if you lived in Balboa during the 40, 50's & early 60's. My folks are planning a trip to the Zone in January 08'.

    Thank you!

    P. McGough

  • Hi there, so glad you liked it. Let's hope we can get a bunch of Zonians re-connected. :)

  • P.S. have him check out hawkinsa90 for Panama photos, almost weekly.

  • I'm so glad your husband liked it; tell him he graduated from the best high school ever!

  • Hey, it's my girl! We should go back together and go for a good and happy reason. And haul Teresa with us.

  • Yummy... Pollo!!!

  • Thank YOU for such a lovely compliment. It is a wonderful place to be from.

  • this music is suck pleace put other music this is not mexico this is panama god

  • If you watch the whole thing, you will see a glaring page that announces that.

  • Unfortunately not. I wanted to. Also Waylon. Did you ever see either of them?

  • I'm glad so, it's even purtier in person. Only some of the pics were mine, though. Most were off the net and credited. Visit Panama!

  • Another Hoyt Axton fan!

  • Hi, I'm glad you liked it; I confess to cherishing the the old CZ ones most of all, will make one myself soon. It varies on us, whether we like old or new. Myself, I love both. What years were you there? I was born in 67 and left in 85.... except for visits of course.

  • Whoa 20 years! You are in for a very pleasant surprise!

  • I decided to check out some of your older videos and found this one...GOD, I love Panama and swear to GOD I will return there someday.

  • Isn't it wonderful? I'll be making another video of my recent trip and photos soon. You must go! It has increased moderinization and beauty, you won't recognize it at first. The interier, around Rio Hato, is the same, and the whole place is a wonderful country.

  • Bring summin back on vid for us! Have a nice time x

  • Thanks, Tom. I have the camera and vid all charged and ready to go!

  • omg...you made me drool with the pics of food. i LOVE ceviche. bring some back for me. LOL

  • Isn't it good? I'd sneak back a whole suitcase full if I could.

  • I was there in 1977, loved it! People were nice, found some old Molas in a shop for $1 each cause they were already used :) (real) The wildlife, scenery, people, music, food, so wonderful when you get out and mix in. Have fun River and see you on the return. --mn--

  • $1 molas is excellent! What did you do with them? The real ones are HARD to come by anymore! What were you there for in 1977? And where? I was in Los Rios at that time (a 10 year old little terror)

  • I found a shop with just molas and they had stacks of 'used old ones' for 1 buck each! OMG such beautiful worn faded colors and intricate work, much better in my eyes than the touristy stuff. I was studying botany. Costa Rica and Panama are horticultural tropical treasure troves. I'll be looking forward to your return travel posts River.

  • Oh wow, the horticultural treasure troves --- I love that phrase. Do you have photos so you can make a video of the plants and trees? I love plants and trees. I agree with you about the touristy stuff.

  • I believe I do have some, maybe when you return we can share some travel vids. It's quite different than the flat coastal plains I live on in that you can travel within a few miles and see desert, cloudforests, jungle lined rivers, so amazing!

  • I would love to see your photos!

  • You back already! That week went fast, hope you had a great time. Will dig around and see what I can find. Welcome Home --mn--

  • 2 days!! excited RiverBirchy girl methinks. Loved the pics (Genesis store :)Some of it looks like northern Australia, very beautiful. Shall be thinking of you :)

ps: Watch out for barechested men in bermuda shorts, wearing gold medallions and named Dexter (grrrr)lol

  • ROFLLLLL - you made me laugh so hard! Believe me, I'm staying away from tourists, so NO bermudas anywhere (I hope)

  • Oh yeah, I forgot to pack the repellent. Thanks for reminding me!

  • haha! But the Balboa is the same as the Dollar!

  • Wow!!

    have no words!!

  • Yeah? :)

  • Have a wonderful time!!! Details Details..Make us a video... please... take more pictures! Blessings for a safe trip. ~Martha

  • Martha, thank you for this comment and the desire to see more! I do plan a video.... I'll want to video for 7 days straight. haha!

  • Have a wonderful time .... looking forward to seeing pictures of your trip! Tons of hugs from Mel!

  • Heeeee. Thanks for the hugs! I'm so excited that I can't sit still.

  • So beautiful, no wonder you miss it!

How long will you be there? I'll miss you. Be safe, darlin.

  • It will be 7 glorious days! And I'll need the "be safe, darlin" just to drive through the city. LOL

  • BTW, don't know if you got my letter (I know you've been super busy) but he's told me that he's in love with me. Talk about a surprise! :O

More on that when you get home. x0x0x0x0

  • Ack! No, wait I got that one but thought I answered it. I'm sorry! and Yay! And I will answer it once I finish my frantic YTing and packing and most likely when I get back because I still have tons to do... I procrastinate like crazy. And about him... Yay!

  • HAVE LOTS OF FUN!!

  • Thank you! Yeah yeah yeah!
