  • So at 1:24, our bass drum should sound like a baboon? Lmfao. I love Bob!

  • This video is so sexual

  • Bonzo only used felt across his bass heads, no other damping at all, quite confusing how almost every drummer has a different "absolutely must do this" technique. Think I'll try my shells without any heads on them and see if that works!

  • sound like a heart beat baboon baboon baboon lol lol lol

  • How do you do the wrinkle technique with a coated head?

  • 8:43 That's a nice leg.

  • The wrinkle technique doesnt work so well on coated heads :(

  • ok first off i have a starter kit five peice standard size i love evans tried everything else didn't like it to begin with put evans on my kit and it sounds like a 1200 dollar kit it was three hundred bucks so here's my first question i put the emad2 on my kit for the batter on my bass im going to buy the emad2 reso for the front now what do you suggest for tuning i because ive had good experience with a medium loose batter and a medium tight reso but it just sounds to high

  • @SuperGilbs my bass has 8 tension rods what have you for suggestions ur my guru every one who hears my set at open mics and what not ask me if they can use my kit instead of thiers because mine sounds better and i think thier kit is a better brand message me back asap

  • bagoo bagoo bagoo!!!! lol

  • All personal preference. I have my bass drum tuned pretty high I can't stand to have even a hint of floppy sound in it.

  • Very Nice. I like it.

  • So... Wrinkles = Good

    Tight = Bad

I tell ya, I'd hate to see your ideal ass.

  • GIMME YO DRUMS

  • the price is wrong BOB

  • So... You're saying I should get the old, rolled up piece of carpet out of my bass drum?

  • @mebematthew0 ummmmmmmmmm... yeah. lol throw a pillow in there works all the same. that is if you care about your drumset.. lol if not then completely discard this message. seacrest out

  • Bob is a fantastic teacher. He makes everything so understandable and interesting. His obvious love of all things drums also shows. Overall a great guy! Thanks Mr. Gatzen!

  • Step 1:BUY OUR SHIT!!

  • what year is this dvd from? because i found one that was from 1997 but this doesn't seem like it.

  • @Quorrra This is not from a DVD, it's made just for Pro Drum Tips

  • Shamwow guy turned 60 and made a drum video.

  • BAGOM!! BAGOM!!! BAGOM!!! like a heartbeat year right

  • Press 4 for gatzen practicing his singing

  • keep pressin 8 lmao O_O

  • Can anyone help me? My kick sounds... wobbly and I've tried many kinds of different lug pressures, but it keeps on sounding weird.

  • @veilx Put something inside your bass drum like a pillow to dampen it a bit or if you've done that follow more tuning advice like in this video. Also you could try a new bass drum head. Check out ma channel.

  • @happyheadpopper Actually, the next day after posting that, I put my pillow in there and it worked amazingly. Thanks for the advise either way. :DD I'll be sure to check ya' channel. ;D

  • 6:05 - 6:42 Granny porn

  • @Mooning2314 When you think of it like that, yes, yes, it is :P

  • @Mooning2314 bahahahahahahaha

  • hell i dont even put anything in my bass drum and i get a better thud than that, just crank up the reso way more than the batter.

  • 6:20 getting a little tooo excited there

  • yeah i'm a fellow follower of sabian and evans

  • o yeah wrinkles.......awesome

  • I use those drumheads. EMAD... I can seriously reccommend it. Best one on the market in my opinion...

  • 6:29 look at those babies :b

  • heartbeat.. i like that alot

  • How do I tune my 24" Vistalite bass drum? A bit tricky. Front head tighter than batter or vice versa? all the best- Johan

  • I highly recommend getting a EMAD or GMAD absolutely amazing drum heads

  • i had to go on amazon and get the Evans EQ pad after seeing this. for $15, who cares it if actually works or not. Bob Gatzen is the next Billy Mays!

  • keep clicking on isaacdrums23 comment on the number. you can make a beat with it!

  • this is basically a long evans advertisement

  • ...um no

  • holy shit i tuned my bass drum HELLA worng

  • 8:52 "You guys hear that? I don't know if I did. You sure you guys gave me the right part?"

  • "Big difference huh."

    Eeeer... no.

  • OH yeah Wrinkes. Never thought wrinkles could be exciting

  • did he fart at 0:25?

  • 2 THUMBS UP! (Y) (Y) \M/

  • its time to switch instrument :l

  • Bob rocks !!

Helped me out with my snare (wire snipping to reduce buzz), worked an absolute treat on by DW 'brass snare'.

Sounds a heap better, with a warm sound, and still has a great snap to it.

I was gunna say crack (but ummm, there might be some weirdo's watching, lol.)

    Cheers Bob

    John - Sydney, Oz.

  • Hey Bob. I live in a neighborhood, which means that i cant make to much noise when im playing. What ive done is that ive filled my bass drum with pillows until its almost no more room in it. That lowers the noise a lot and its great. But yesturday my bassdrum head broke after just about a week of use. It was almost bran new, so im wondering what may be the reason? Has it anything to do with me overfilling the drum? please help i cant afford this again:P

  • @Nergal945 Probably the pillows

  • Great help for me. :)

  • hahaha wrinkles are exciting. LOL

  • BAGOO BAGOO BAGOO! ...Sound's like someone has heart problems.

  • This is some good shit!

  • I've tried various materials to help muffle the sound in my kick. I ended up using bubble wrap because i had it kicking around and i've never taken it out. Just the right amount of muffle with some resonance...depending how much you use and how tight you pack it in. Works well for me. I also mounted an Audix D6 inside the drum with DW"s internal miking system and no hole on the outer head which give me a nice full sound from my Premier Genista birch shell. It goes BOOM!!!

  • @drdiotte1 Sorry...it's the May Miking System sold through DW.

  • Comment removed

  • 2:40 how to fuuuuck did he do that?

  • its proberly cause this is youtube but i didnt notice any difference when he took that circle thing at the end away.

  • Nice shoes

  • "El Pee Pee"

    My bass sounds awesome :D

  • UH UH UH UH

  • @hellojohnny101 this comment made me crack up.

  • its vince from shamwow

  • I have two bass drums and one of them is at my preferred pitch, but i just can't get the second one to have an identical sound... anyone have any tips to even them up, without adjusting the preferred drum?

  • I guess a port would B required 2 lay the mic Nside after the resonance head was attached!?! LAYING it N there would cause bounce wouldn't it?!?

  • @PirateTravisJohnson1 Check out May Miking System sold through DW.

  • 30 people use remo powerstroke 3

  • @shoutuper they're actually really nice.I have one and I don't even need to put anything in my drum.

  • @drumstix1231 dont know dude

i watched videos with remopowerstroke3 and they sound like shit :/

  • @shoutuper Oh wait nevermind I have the remo powerstroke pro.

  • This dude kinda looks like an older version of Vince from Shamwow

  • bob is the man!

  • wrinkle boner

  • 4:33 hahaha

  • @isaacdrums23 what are we now? 13?

  • which bass head w/ the EMAD technology do u thnk is the best?

  • @zzzzzushi i use a EMAD 2 on batter, then EMAD resonant bass drum head.. for my reso. .so does aaron gillespie of underoath :)

  • @andrewcopeowns gmad? onyx emad? i dont know which to get. Emad 2? still dont know. they dont sample those heads well online sometimes.

  • @zzzzzushi clear emad2 batter, and the black EMAD reso head.. (its called Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head ) on the guitarcenter website

  • do u use the EMAD muffling rings?

  • oh yeah

  • You are a real teacher! Clear correct, easy to use technique... Thanks!!

  • This dude is the Bob Ross of drum tuning

  • In my experience, the small port ring on the reso would ALWAYS fall out (into the bass drum) after about 2-3 songs - and I am not a hard hitter. Within a couple of gigs, the port ring would actually start to come apart completely.

Just last night in the middle of a gig, the batter head came apart as well - specifically the plastic retainer ring that held the foam ring in place. The retainer had cracked apart due to the vibration of the head. I have abandoned Evans :(

  • @chrisgeorgenes Hmm. That's odd. I am a really hard hitter, and I've yet to have that happen to me. Have you found a better alternative to Evans? If you have, let me know.

  • @Bookster343 I'm playing remo although I do have a few Evans heads on my 2nd kit and they do sound amazing. So I haven't abandoned them completely. I switched to the Remo Powerstroke with the Evans internal pillow with great success.

  • FUCK MY DRUMS SUCK!

  • Spend more mon- i mean put two pads in the bass drum for a more thud like sound

  • so when they wrinkle youou don't let the wrinkle disappear? you just tune it up a bit?

  • @allmetaliswelcome That's what I'm not clear on. Wrinkle appears, then tune back up til it's gone, or leave a bit of wrinkle? It looks like he left some wrinkle, but I can't be sure.

  • @MitchuII when i gotta make it disappear i have to tune more than a full turn!

  • Why does he for as much resonance he can and then puts a fancy called pillow in one of his drums (and says it's neccesary for every bass drum)?

  • PAGOO... A heartbeat?

  • keep hitting 3 4 or 5 :L looks funny hit them rapidly

  • why would we pick his dvd up when you can just watch them on here :P

  • @nbroken theres a lot more stuff on the dvd, and he worked hard on it.

  • i saw a leprechaun at 1:56..

  • boom goes the dynomite!

  • Just like the tem tem :D

  • that bass drum sounds so weak. i like mine with a solid solid solid thud, one that acts like thunder

  • Bagoom Bagoom Bagoom!

  • resonator man!!!

  • el pee pee

  • el pee pee

  • 5:45 John Bonham thought different than you mate!

  • i feel like he's actually my grandad.

  • I saw a lot of wrinkles in this video. I'm not talking about the bass.

  • i think it sounded better with the front mute pad off more like john bonham. i recomend not making your drums sound like a plastic trash can or plastic cups and make it sound like what it is. an acoustic drum. if you want the cup sound by an electric set. they sound better with reverb like def leppard.

  • @xAxnikxlinxAx or people can do whatever they want, someone people prefer the punchy short sound as opposed to that boomy sound, both are good in different situations

  • jajaja oh yea u love those rinkles

  • this would have been better if he spoke a little louder

  • 29 people are from expert village!! XD

  • LMAO 4:34

  • i really dislike bobs wrinkle way of tuning ... ive done it myself and dislike it. i just fool around and get the low pitch i want.

  • 4:35 epic

  • bit easier to tube when you've got a mate kicking the bass pedal for you :)

  • £37.00 for an eq pad? i'd rather get a small cushion or two for less then half the price.

  • 8:13-8:20 ;)

  • I just put an old pillow inside, works well enough.

  • Hey Bob, thank you very much for taking your time to make such grate videos. I've seen many lesson dvds but no one took the tuning subject so seriously. These videos have helped me alot and now my kit finally sounds great.....Can't wait to record my first album with it this summer :D

  • affair with drums

    !!

  • I've got a coated resohead with a hole. Can i lean forward on the head or will it crack? Please answer

  • Thanks to a random man named Bob, my cheap and nasty bass drum now sounds beast.

  • BaGoo BaGoo BaGoo

  • thanks Bob, just got a new kit and the bass drum sounded terrible, now its perfect.

  • I've never seen an old man so happy to see wrinkles

  • Comment removed

  • Bob Gatzen is awsome. Very good at explaining! Love this guy

  • 29 people are too stupid to tune a bass drum.

  • that bass drun looks very old

  • this is like.... awsome

  • I like this guy me and could watch him all day to be honest tho I must say the chap was only tapping on the bass drum and I do like to hear a bass drum drove in hard and hearing a good solid thud come out of it to almost nail you to the wall when it comes through the PA system

  • LMAO! At 2:40 when he hits the drum.. i said ohhhh and 2 seconds later he said the same thing. to funny

  • Powerstroke 3 baby

  • hey bob how do you know when its time to change a bass drum head

  • i ain't sure whether this is good or not lol well it is better than expert villiage

  • @prodrumtips does the bass drum sound good if i put 2 batter heads?

  • Don't Evans say that you should tune the emad way higher, to keep the plastic dampening ring in good condition? Don't they also say that tuning EMAD higher than an usual head make them resonate well?

  • @expressAnt That's for the EMAD 1 as they had had trouble with the sleeve. If you pay attention, he's using the EMAD 2. They have an improved sleeve for the dampening ring.

  • do i need to buy two heads every time for each shell, top and bottom of toms, front and back of bass drum or what?

  • @nothingface78 Well, some drummers only have heads for the batter (head you hit) head. This may work for some sounds, but really...having a resonance (bottom head) makes it sound better

  • @xDeadMisfitsx okay, do the resonance heads need to be tuned as well?

  • lol el pee pee

  • this is going into my favorites

  • Lemme show you this, its really cool.

  • very very very useful, thank you so much

  • The term is "damping", not "dampening".

    Nothing is getting wet.

  • does it matter what kind of bass pedal you have for the sound of the bass?

  • @LaxStringer74 Type of mallet affects sound. not pedal.

  • @slayerrules114 I didnt know what it was called. thanks.

  • @LaxStringer74 mallet, beater, it's all the same. I prefer a felt beater to plastic, just sayin :D

  • hey my fome rings ripped in a couple of days after i got my head... can i get some free ones? kinda pissed me off

  • Dude looks like an old Beavis.

  • @BleedingWalls420 LOL win comment

  • Look at bob at around 3:30 when he starts pimping out the EQ pads. now, bob is a good guy he is almost ashamed to tell you to buy that thing. right before he gets into the dirty business he is telling you with his FACE to not spend any money on that thing. they should have exhumed BILLY MAYS to sell the shit out of this thing that guy can make putting your hand under a car tire viable.

  • bob ross got a haircut and plays drums?

  • i could listen to this guy talk forever..

  • i think we should tune bob's face to get the wrinkles out

  • Comment removed

  • I tuned my bass drum in like 10 minutes thanks to this video, shit sounds so good :))

  • am i the only person in the world with bass problems??

Should i get a big name brand of drum maybe that'll help, it'll probably be better than my starter kit that i have

  • @daws25z Yes, you need to accept you wont be able to get a real nice sound on a starter kit, but not a bad one. But don't rush into getting a new kit if you aren't ready

  • @daws25z wat company

  • Comment removed

  • "externally mounted adjustable dampening system."...... its foam
