Not arguing for a religious test, but Article 6, Clause 3 doesn't apply to state government. If there was a constitutional challenge to religious tests in state government, it would not be under that provision, but instead the 14th amendment's due process clause applying the 1st amendment to state government. Article 6, Clause 3 is limited to the federal government.
"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."
I believe it does ("all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States"), but one could make a comically bad argument that that excerpt only applies to oaths and not the religious test.
But in a 1961 Supreme Court case, the court ruled that State religious tests were unconstitutional based on the 1st and 14th ammendments, even though the original lawsuit was filed based on Ar6Cl3. So that's where there's legal precedent on the issue.
In other words, the argument of whether the religious test in Ar6Cl3 applies to States remains unresolved by the courts (which I think is ridiculous), but that's merely academic because the 1st & 14th ammendments apply and there is legal precedent for using them instead.
Well I don't think anyone disagrees that religious tests of any kind are unconstitutional (9-0 SCt vote), we just may differ on which provision is the reason. Torcaso v. Watkins is the 1961 case that ruled Maryland's religious test to be unconstitutional. A footnote in Torcaso v. Watkins refers to Secular Humanism (capitalized) as a religion. that doesn't set well with many YT atheists, despite their relief that religious tests aren't allowed.
Not to me. Nowhere in the ruling does it say that Ar6Cl3 doesn't apply to States. The only mention of that issue (Ar6 was also mentioned in a historical review of the 1st Amendment) was in Footnote 1:
"Because we are reversing the judgment on other grounds, we find it unnecessary to consider appellant's contention that this provision applies to state as well as federal offices."
"But in a 1961 Supreme Court case, the court ruled that State religious tests were unconstitutional based on the 1st and 14th ammendments, even though the original lawsuit was filed based on Ar6Cl3. So that's where there's legal precedent on the issue."
Exactly. Although the case was filed based on both arguments, the court ruled based on the 1st and 14th.
I could be wrong and feel free to correct me, but as I understand it, it does apply to every public office, however, many states have (perhaps illegally) applied their own legislation in direct contravention to federal law and the supreme courts regarding many things including the pre-requisites for public office.
Ah. Are you saying that it does apply to state constitutions (ie that it applies to literally every public office)?
It doesn't. It would be the first amendment applied through the due process clause of the 14th that would be used. This clearly applies only to federal offices.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think he meant it as an attack against him. The kid is gay, and his parents teach him it's wrong. I think he feels bad for him...not trying to attack him.
If his parents were atheists, and if the kid is in fact gay (its too early to determine this) his parents would probably encourage him... He's 12- he should be concerned about toys, not girls or boys!
We dont know that boy's family history- obviously he's confused... Every parent (whether Christian or atheist) teaches their values to their posterity- unless they're irresponsible and don't care either way...
I don't know what you mean by encourage him. They would be more accepting. Maybe you think toys should be his concern, but clearly he has other worries. When I was 12, I was quite aware of my attraction to girls. I agree that he is confused. But, so what? The point is that his parents shouldn't be telling him it's wrong to be gay. This likely has played a significant role in his confusion.
"The point is that his parents shouldn't be telling him it's wrong to be gay."
That is your secular, contemporary opinion...you're entitled to it, but it is not a universal view. Homosexuality was once considered a mental disorder in the medical community until rather recently...
So tell me, how do you figure that homosexuality is "good?" What is your moral/ethical standard? what is the rationale behind it, and how does homosexuality benefit humanity?
It is now clear why you have chosen to unsubscribe. Are you actually trying to use homosexuality once being considered a mental disorder as an argument? Black people were once considered inferior by the government until rather recently. Black people were once slaves not so long ago. Give me a break man. How does your intolerance benefit humanity?
Do you even realize that I have given you an awesome opportunity to answer some very serious questions from a logical and rational position...and you just blew it with irrational emotionalism and insults?
Human, I thought atheists were about "reason?"
Plenty of Black folk and minorities (like myself) do not see the Homosexual "struggle" the same as the Race issue... You do realize that, don't you?
How about I give you another chance to be reasonable and enlighten a delusional Christian?
I just posted a comment, but I don't see it. So, I will try again. You gave me an opportunity to answer questions that were insulting to any rational person. I said you were intolerant, because you are. This is not an emotional insult. You do not see the homosexual struggle as the same, because you are not homosexual. You are selfish. Nothing I say is going to enlighten you. Gay people do not harm you by being gay. Why don't you tell me what your problem is with gay people?
HA HA HA... Well then- my BLACK FRIEND who is standing next to me thinks you're an idiot- (not my opinion)...
You do realize that you have just insulted Black Americans (at least the MAJORITY) for believing that homosexual acts are immoral acts, right? You've just called most Blacks....IRRATIONAL!!! LOL- Newsflash!
Im Puerto Rican- do you know what that means???
If anyone is intolerant, it is YOU. You are intolerant of persons that subscribe to traditional values...
Funny you accuse me of the emotional insults and then your convenient friend happens to call me an idiot. Just what I would expect from someone like you.
I'm am sorry that I insulted people for being intolerant. I am sorry that I am not tolerant of intolerance. This is the biggest joke of all. You are not tolerant of gay people. So, I criticize you for it, and you try to claim I am intolerant. You are right. I am intolerant of racists, homophobes, Nazis, sexists, and the list goes on.
Dude...Im not here for "tit for tat" argumentation...
I gave you an opportunity to give me rational answers, and like with ChristianU2ber, you blew it.
You do realize that you're simply acting like a Zombie, right?
Redeem yourself by answering my questions rationally.
Again, what is your moral and ethical argument in favor of Humanity... How does the practice of Homosexuality equate to heterosexual marriage, and in turn, how does it benefit humanity??
You are not here for "tit for tat" argumentation, but you then say I'm simply acting like a Zombie. Practice what you preach.
You have never answered any of my questions. What do you have against gay people? What gives you the right to tell them that they are not equal to you?
Tolerance benefits humanity. Does it not? I am only intolerant of your unfair treatment of gay people. If your beliefs are not harming someone else, I am tolerant of you. Gay people aren't harming you. Are they?
Everything you have accused me of, you have done. You are the one doing all the emotional insults. You are the one being intolerant. And then you try to project all of that on me.
You are not interested in having a reasonable discussion. If you really are interested, then send me a message. We both can stop with the insults, and we can listen to each other.
If you take a look at Knitty's conversation with me (and she's an Atheist) I have been BOTH polite and respectful. It is you kid, who is throwing the temper tantrums...
all I am asking (for the fifth time) is that you would provide me with logical, rational arguments for your ethical/moral opinion concerning homosexuality.
Thats ALL Im asking! Re-read the posts, man...
Hey, Im still waiting for that cell number so I can record my friend and send you a pic...LOL
Maybe you should re-read the posts. Are you a real Christian? Is this what being a Christian is all about? I am not throwing any temper tantrums. Everything that you do, you continue to accuse me of doing. You have been insulting and disrespectful. You have ignored all of my questions. You have shown your intolerance. I tried to stop the insults and be respectful, but you refused to return the favor.
The previous text: "Children are told that their parents' religion is true."
He used CU2B as an example of this. It's true, and it's not an attack on him. Hell, I used to be like CU2B, and I feel nothing but sympathy and sadness for him.
It is a fallacy to believe that only the children of atheists are "indoctrinated." It is only a fallacy that atheists are "unbelievers." it is illogical- most of them are "believers" in the justifications for "unbelief." And THAT my friend...is a BELIEF!!
I didn't say anything about the children of atheists.
Atheism is a lack of belief in god.
You, sir, are intellectually dishonest. You're using verbal gymnastics to try to confuse the matter at hand. I have little to no time for conning pseudo intellectuals like you.
You're welcome for the insults. You worked hard to deserve them. You took unnecessary offense to the mention of CU2B. You're trying to assign a belief to atheism, when by definition atheism is a lack of belief in God. I'm not repeating a mantra. I'm telling you how atheism is defined. And even if I were, wouldn't you as a Christian be highly hypocritical in accusing me of doing so?
You subscribe to a doctrine which makes claims about a zombie based on a book riddled with factual and philosophical errors, and you call me a zombie because I want hard evidence before I accept your views?
You can say that I'm not an independent thinker all you want, mister. The facts of the matter say otherwise.
Sir, you're propositional statements are simply strawman aguments that simply reflect more than "lack of belief" but rather, lack of "knowledge."
I dont give a shit whether you accept "my views" or not. I could care less if you rolled over and died! the more you attempt to share your diatribe with me, the more you demonstrate to being a ZOMBIE who's simply regurgitating Atheist dogma...
You want "hard proof?" LOL- First find "hard proof" for your adherence to Darwinism. Go talk to Berlinski.
Would you call me dogmatic if I were a Christian? Simply because I disagree with you I'm suddenly a zombie spouting dogma. Have you read into and thought about the philosophical questions raised by the assumption that a god as described by Christians exists?
And there's no such thing as "Darwinism." There's the theory of evolution, which is supported by quite a bit of hard evidence, but not Darwinism.
Oh, and it's "your", not "you're." Learn the difference.
Darwinism (whether you like the title of it or not) IS a fallacy- it has been mathematically proven to be HIGHLY UNLIKELY. But of course, you're a Zombie and you care less for the rational facts...
Good luck kid- keep on fostering your hate for Christians- it will gain you lots of subscribers from highly intellectual people.. LOL
The odds of civilization being wiped out by an asteroid are 7 million to 1. The odds of someone winning the Powerball lottery are 120 million to 1. In the 7 million years humans are estimated to have been around, we haven't been wiped out once. Since 1997, over 50 people have won the jackpot.
In other words: odds aren't absolute. By the way, Berlinski is part of the Discovery Institute, which has been destroyed time and again in the academic realm.
Where have I ever expressed hatred for any group of people? I think the beliefs put forth by Christianity are demonstrably wrong and even dangerous sometimes, but I don't hate anyone because they're Christian or otherwise.
You're putting words in my mouth, Taino. That's silly. Stop that.
Oh, jeez. I hope I didn't hurt your feelings. Look, I'm sure that you're a nice guy and you mean well. But instead of thinking about my response to your original comment (accusing Orygyn of insulting CU2B) you spouted off about something else, and you were belligerent and confrontational.
I hope you learned something about assumptions and how to have honest and beneficial discourse today.
Heh. You say "smart people" as if I'm not also intelligent.
Please tell me where I exercised a true strawman argument, besides when I poked fun at the Christian religion. Other than that I've simply refuted your statements with facts as I understand them.
Oh, and one more thing: I was incorrect about the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot. They're 200 million to 1 now.
"The previous text: "Children are told that their parents' religion is true."
LOL- thats the case of EVERY PARENT regardless of philosophical inclination! Hardly no one will tell their kids: "Son, I made up my mind what was right and what is wrong...so, after supper do some research on ________ and make up your own mind, ok?
If the kid by venture comes back being a Christian, do you think that atheist parent is going to "respect" that decision. NO! Of course not...
"Son, I made up my mind what was right and what is wrong...so, after supper do some research on ________ and make up your own mind, ok?" That is basically what my parents did.
"If the kid by venture comes back being a Christian..." Yes. My parents supported me through all of my phases until I discovered I did not believe in God.
"Yes. My parents supported me through all of my phases until I discovered I did not believe in God."
So tell me, why didn't most (thousands) YT Atheists didn't assess Christianu2ber as going through a "phase" and simply show him "support?"
You do realize that if the Atheist community would've showed ChristianU2ber love, compassion and empathy, that you would've definitely (at least) influenced his "research" into choosing Atheism, right?
I disagree with your SECOND STATEMENT... I am a parent of 3 children- and I do not appreciate ANYONE trying to pass down "their values" on my children...
And besides...wouldn't that be "indoctrination" by the MOB? Can you rationally explain to me how it is acclaimed to be "wrong" for a parent to teach their values- but it is right for the MOB to teach theirs?? I say MOB- because obviously we're talking about thousands of strangers. :-)
A slogan? I dont see ANYONE raising my children...
I respect your opinion...but the parallel seems contradictory.
So teaching values by a group of people (rather than by parents) is OK as long as they are Atheists and Secularists? Am I understanding you right? :-)
Also, he's on YouTube. He is bound to be exposed to something his parents don't like. If they want to keep him from learning new ideas, they need to keep him from going on the internet. :P
Knitty... I like you! I respect you for at least trying to answer my questions in a rational manner...
I will agree with you on your point- ok?
On the other hand (does it ever end???) I will propose that perhaps they should have monitored what he was watching? Yet again, Im sure some people would call that "indoctrination..."
If this kid is on the computer even half as much as I was at his age, that will be incredibly difficult to monitor everything he watches.
However, for me and others as well, YouTube is a exchange of ideas. Why not start early?
After all, it's not a bad thing to hear several different view points when you are learning about something, perhaps even for the first time. Maybe, with YouTube, he can learn to think critically at a young age.
At his age, I had no clue there would ever be PC's. Even Star Trek had large dials and buttons!!! ha ha- Im old.
I agree with you that YT can be a place to exchange ideas- on the other hand- let me paint you this scenario.
Christians are usually held accountable by Atheists when they fail to live up to moral "expectations" that they preach... Shouldn't Atheists be held responsible for their lack of "critical thinking" when dealing with ChristianU2ber? I happen to think so- its only fair right?
I don't see how we know if all of the hate he received was only from atheists to begin with. How do we know that it comes from one group of people? How do we know that an entire group of people would react that way? And who's to say that the YouTubers who reacted that way shouldn't be criticized?
You certainly raise some important questions, and perhaps I cant answer them all...
All I know is that I spent days monitoring the situation (ha ha- no, Im not a YT bum) and there were about three Atheist YT'ers that made vids in defense of the kid (including the host of this vid)... The rest that I was able to check...were of the "non-belief" arena.
Hey, Im going to subscribe to you...hope you do the same. I dont just post religious and spanish stuff, you know! : )
Well, if the videos were in defense of this kid, we know that the entire group wouldn't react that way. Hatred, in this case intolerance towards gays, never ceases with hatred.
Thanks for subbing. I will sub in return. I don't mind seeing religious videos, by the way. Exchange of ideas, remember? ;)
Critical thinking isn't limited to any one group of people. By the way, I do not call myself an atheist, although I do not believe in God or anything supernatural/metaphysical. I prefer not to use any term.
OK, I'm sorry to hear you've unsubscribed but I cann tell you now that thedefendingchamp and thelastholdout were right about my intentions. I even said that no offense was intended to anyone. To answer your questions, it is not that we consider homosexuality good, it's natural and does not harm anyone so why shouldn't we allow it? Morality doesn't even factor into this.
This video flashes an image of me, ergo it is the most awesome thing to grace the planet.
J/k, the video was awesome, I loved the music, and it carried a strong, all encompassing message about the value of the atheist community here on Youtube. Bravo, Axyss. :)
Oh, jeez, Orygyn, please don't think I was complaining. I was happy being included, and it was an awesome video. Besides, I don't think there are any clips from my videos which would have really fit the context of this one.
I still love Falcon. When I have the money I'm going to download it. :)
LOL. I really suck at phrasing things. I never thought you were that was my mistake. And I wouldn't dream of making you pay for Falcon I could simply send you it over Skype.
I have The Vine already up on Lulu and appreciated really isn't the word for offering to pay. But before you do I'd like to upload Falcon first because I still don't know how payments are dealt with on Lulu. I might need to get PayPal first.
okay, well, you do what you need to do to get payment set up on Lulu. In the meantime, I'll continue to work and earn money so I have some discretionary income with which to pay. :)

Orygyn 2 years ago
Two other users each named six states.
Gogreen18 mentioned Mississippi (which is missing among your list), but omitted Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Arkansas.
And in 2007, a now-closed account called atheistonfire also mentioned six as well, omitting (I think) Maryland and Arkansas.
So in total, NINE states were named between the three of you.

I believe it does ("all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States"), but one could make a comically bad argument that that excerpt only applies to oaths and not the religious test.

Orygyn 2 years ago
Well I don't think anyone disagrees that religious tests of any kind are unconstitutional (9-0 SCt vote), we just may differ on which provision is the reason. Torcaso v.
Sounds unresolved to me.

Low blow after posting a video in defense of him...
Guess you had to make up for it to the choir, eh?
Sorry dude... unsubscribed.
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think he meant it as an attack against him. The kid is gay, and his parents teach him it's wrong. I think he feels bad for him...not trying to attack him.
thedefendingchamp 2 years ago
If his parents were atheists, and if the kid is in fact gay (its too early to determine this) his parents would probably encourage him... He's 12- he should be concerned about toys, not girls or boys!
We dont know that boy's family history- obviously he's confused... Every parent (whether Christian or atheist) teaches their values to their posterity- unless they're irresponsible and don't care either way...
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
I don't know what you mean by encourage him. They would be more accepting. Maybe you think toys should be his concern, but clearly he has other worries. When I was 12, I was quite aware of my attraction to girls. I agree that he is confused. But, so what? The point is that his parents shouldn't be telling him it's wrong to be gay. This likely has played a significant role in his confusion.
thedefendingchamp 2 years ago
"The point is that his parents shouldn't be telling him it's wrong to be gay."
That is your secular, contemporary opinion...you're entitled to it, but it is not a universal view. Homosexuality was once considered a mental disorder in the medical community until rather recently...
So tell me, how do you figure that homosexuality is "good?" What is your moral/ethical standard? what is the rationale behind it, and how does homosexuality benefit humanity?
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
It is now clear why you have chosen to unsubscribe. Are you actually trying to use homosexuality once being considered a mental disorder as an argument? Black people were once considered inferior by the government until rather recently. Black people were once slaves not so long ago. Give me a break man. How does your intolerance benefit humanity?
thedefendingchamp 2 years ago
Do you even realize that I have given you an awesome opportunity to answer some very serious questions from a logical and rational position...and you just blew it with irrational emotionalism and insults?
Human, I thought atheists were about "reason?"
Plenty of Black folk and minorities (like myself) do not see the Homosexual "struggle" the same as the Race issue... You do realize that, don't you?
How about I give you another chance to be reasonable and enlighten a delusional Christian?
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
I just posted a comment, but I don't see it. So, I will try again. You gave me an opportunity to answer questions that were insulting to any rational person. I said you were intolerant, because you are. This is not an emotional insult. You do not see the homosexual struggle as the same, because you are not homosexual. You are selfish. Nothing I say is going to enlighten you. Gay people do not harm you by being gay. Why don't you tell me what your problem is with gay people?
thedefendingchamp 2 years ago
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Funny you accuse me of the emotional insults and then your convenient friend happens to call me an idiot. Just what I would expect from someone like you.
I'm am sorry that I insulted people for being intolerant. I am sorry that I am not tolerant of intolerance. This is the biggest joke of all. You are not tolerant of gay people. So, I criticize you for it, and you try to claim I am intolerant. You are right. I am intolerant of racists, homophobes, Nazis, sexists, and the list goes on.
thedefendingchamp 2 years ago
*I'm sorry, not I'm am...
thedefendingchamp 2 years ago
Dude...Im not here for "tit for tat" argumentation...
I gave you an opportunity to give me rational answers, and like with ChristianU2ber, you blew it.
You do realize that you're simply acting like a Zombie, right?
Redeem yourself by answering my questions rationally.
Again, what is your moral and ethical argument in favor of Humanity... How does the practice of Homosexuality equate to heterosexual marriage, and in turn, how does it benefit humanity??
Rational answers will be respected.
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
You are not here for "tit for tat" argumentation, but you then say I'm simply acting like a Zombie. Practice what you preach.
You have never answered any of my questions. What do you have against gay people? What gives you the right to tell them that they are not equal to you?
Tolerance benefits humanity. Does it not? I am only intolerant of your unfair treatment of gay people. If your beliefs are not harming someone else, I am tolerant of you. Gay people aren't harming you. Are they?
thedefendingchamp 2 years ago
I wrote you an answer but it did not post.
Send me your cell phone and I will take a picture of my work partner calling you stupid, ok?
Again, when you answer my ethical questions to you with decency, then we'll continue...otherwise, Im not interested in emo tit for tat...ok?
If thats not good enough...say the last word and move on bud.
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Everything you have accused me of, you have done. You are the one doing all the emotional insults. You are the one being intolerant. And then you try to project all of that on me.
You are not interested in having a reasonable discussion. If you really are interested, then send me a message. We both can stop with the insults, and we can listen to each other.
thedefendingchamp 2 years ago
If you take a look at Knitty's conversation with me (and she's an Atheist) I have been BOTH polite and respectful. It is you kid, who is throwing the temper tantrums...
all I am asking (for the fifth time) is that you would provide me with logical, rational arguments for your ethical/moral opinion concerning homosexuality.
Thats ALL Im asking! Re-read the posts, man...
Hey, Im still waiting for that cell number so I can record my friend and send you a pic...LOL
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Maybe you should re-read the posts. Are you a real Christian? Is this what being a Christian is all about? I am not throwing any temper tantrums. Everything that you do, you continue to accuse me of doing. You have been insulting and disrespectful. You have ignored all of my questions. You have shown your intolerance. I tried to stop the insults and be respectful, but you refused to return the favor.
thedefendingchamp 2 years ago
Am I a real Christian?? LOL
Well, that all depends does it? First, tell me your definition of what a Christian is...
Second, please (for the 6th time now- explain your ethical/and moral rationale.
Thank you.

The previous text: "Children are told that their parents' religion is true."
He used CU2B as an example of this. It's true, and it's not an attack on him. Hell, I used to be like CU2B, and I feel nothing but sympathy and sadness for him.
thelastholdout 2 years ago
It is a fallacy to believe that only the children of atheists are "indoctrinated." It is only a fallacy that atheists are "unbelievers." it is illogical- most of them are "believers" in the justifications for "unbelief." And THAT my friend...is a BELIEF!!
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
I didn't say anything about the children of atheists.
Atheism is a lack of belief in god.
You, sir, are intellectually dishonest. You're using verbal gymnastics to try to confuse the matter at hand. I have little to no time for conning pseudo intellectuals like you.
thelastholdout 2 years ago
ha ha ha ha... Thank you for your insults, sir.
Atheism, is the "belief" that god(s) does not exist.
You dont have to be a "pseudo-intellectual" to realize that!
Suit yourself- but repeating a mantra does not make you an "independent thinker.."
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
You're welcome for the insults. You worked hard to deserve them. You took unnecessary offense to the mention of CU2B. You're trying to assign a belief to atheism, when by definition atheism is a lack of belief in God. I'm not repeating a mantra. I'm telling you how atheism is defined. And even if I were, wouldn't you as a Christian be highly hypocritical in accusing me of doing so?
thelastholdout 2 years ago
Whatever...
You're just another zombie only interested in the demeaning of others and not in rational thought...
Its too bad you think you're an "independent thinker..."
YOU'RE NOT.
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
You subscribe to a doctrine which makes claims about a zombie based on a book riddled with factual and philosophical errors, and you call me a zombie because I want hard evidence before I accept your views?
You can say that I'm not an independent thinker all you want, mister. The facts of the matter say otherwise.
thelastholdout 2 years ago
Sir, you're propositional statements are simply strawman aguments that simply reflect more than "lack of belief" but rather, lack of "knowledge."
I dont give a shit whether you accept "my views" or not. I could care less if you rolled over and died! the more you attempt to share your diatribe with me, the more you demonstrate to being a ZOMBIE who's simply regurgitating Atheist dogma...
You want "hard proof?" LOL- First find "hard proof" for your adherence to Darwinism. Go talk to Berlinski.
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Lack of knowledge? How so?
Would you call me dogmatic if I were a Christian? Simply because I disagree with you I'm suddenly a zombie spouting dogma. Have you read into and thought about the philosophical questions raised by the assumption that a god as described by Christians exists?
And there's no such thing as "Darwinism." There's the theory of evolution, which is supported by quite a bit of hard evidence, but not Darwinism.
Oh, and it's "your", not "you're." Learn the difference.
thelastholdout 2 years ago
You're being silly now....
LOL
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Fallacy?
The odds of civilization being wiped out by an asteroid are 7 million to 1. The odds of someone winning the Powerball lottery are 120 million to 1. In the 7 million years humans are estimated to have been around, we haven't been wiped out once. Since 1997, over 50 people have won the jackpot.
In other words: odds aren't absolute. By the way, Berlinski is part of the Discovery Institute, which has been destroyed time and again in the academic realm.
thelastholdout 2 years ago
One more thing: you say that I hate Christians.
Where have I ever expressed hatred for any group of people? I think the beliefs put forth by Christianity are demonstrably wrong and even dangerous sometimes, but I don't hate anyone because they're Christian or otherwise.
You're putting words in my mouth, Taino. That's silly. Stop that.
thelastholdout 2 years ago
Whatever...
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Oh, jeez. I hope I didn't hurt your feelings. Look, I'm sure that you're a nice guy and you mean well. But instead of thinking about my response to your original comment (accusing Orygyn of insulting CU2B) you spouted off about something else, and you were belligerent and confrontational.
I hope you learned something about assumptions and how to have honest and beneficial discourse today.
thelastholdout 2 years ago
I hope you learn that smart people do not always answer... especially when they feel that they are wasting their time-
Honest, beneficial discourse?? Sure- Next time Im looking for tit for tat with a Strawman master, I'll look you up!
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
They're 200 million to 1 now.
thelastholdout 2 years ago

"The previous text: "Children are told that their parents' religion is true."
LOL- thats the case of EVERY PARENT regardless of philosophical inclination! Hardly no one will tell their kids: "Son, I made up my mind what was right and what is wrong...so, after supper do some research on ________ and make up your own mind, ok?
If the kid by venture comes back being a Christian, do you think that atheist parent is going to "respect" that decision. NO! Of course not...
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
"Son, I made up my mind what was right and what is wrong...so, after supper do some research on ________ and make up your own mind, ok?" That is basically what my parents did.
"If the kid by venture comes back being a Christian..." Yes. My parents supported me through all of my phases until I discovered I did not believe in God.
KnittyGrittyNatch 2 years ago
KnittyGrittyNatch
Good for you!!!!
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
I think YouTubers should have shown him support. I don't think he deserved to be attacked. I don't that can be justified by any means.
I think YouTubers should have explained to him that homosexuality is not wrong, unnatural or gross as well as why it is that way.
KnittyGrittyNatch 2 years ago
I agree with your FIRST STATEMENT.
Thanks!
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
It takes a village to raise a child.
Besides, is intolerance really a value?
KnittyGrittyNatch 2 years ago
A slogan? I dont see ANYONE raising my children...
I respect your opinion...but the parallel seems contradictory.
So teaching values by a group of people (rather than by parents) is OK as long as they are Atheists and Secularists? Am I understanding you right? :-)
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Also, he's on YouTube. He is bound to be exposed to something his parents don't like. If they want to keep him from learning new ideas, they need to keep him from going on the internet. :P
KnittyGrittyNatch 2 years ago
Knitty... I like you! I respect you for at least trying to answer my questions in a rational manner...
I will agree with you on your point- ok?
On the other hand (does it ever end???) I will propose that perhaps they should have monitored what he was watching? Yet again, Im sure some people would call that "indoctrination..."
Nice talking with you!
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
If this kid is on the computer even half as much as I was at his age, that will be incredibly difficult to monitor everything he watches.
However, for me and others as well, YouTube is a exchange of ideas. Why not start early?
After all, it's not a bad thing to hear several different view points when you are learning about something, perhaps even for the first time. Maybe, with YouTube, he can learn to think critically at a young age.
KnittyGrittyNatch 2 years ago
At his age, I had no clue there would ever be PC's. Even Star Trek had large dials and buttons!!! ha ha- Im old.
I agree with you that YT can be a place to exchange ideas- on the other hand- let me paint you this scenario.
Christians are usually held accountable by Atheists when they fail to live up to moral "expectations" that they preach... Shouldn't Atheists be held responsible for their lack of "critical thinking" when dealing with ChristianU2ber? I happen to think so- its only fair right?
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
I don't see how we know if all of the hate he received was only from atheists to begin with. How do we know that it comes from one group of people? How do we know that an entire group of people would react that way? And who's to say that the YouTubers who reacted that way shouldn't be criticized?
KnittyGrittyNatch 2 years ago
You certainly raise some important questions, and perhaps I cant answer them all...
All I know is that I spent days monitoring the situation (ha ha- no, Im not a YT bum) and there were about three Atheist YT'ers that made vids in defense of the kid (including the host of this vid)... The rest that I was able to check...were of the "non-belief" arena.
Hey, Im going to subscribe to you...hope you do the same. I dont just post religious and spanish stuff, you know! : )
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Well, if the videos were in defense of this kid, we know that the entire group wouldn't react that way. Hatred, in this case intolerance towards gays, never ceases with hatred.
Thanks for subbing. I will sub in return. I don't mind seeing religious videos, by the way. Exchange of ideas, remember? ;)
KnittyGrittyNatch 2 years ago
I wrote a bunch of nice things to you that have not posted yet... well, at least you know my intentions.
Just for the record, you're not saying that "critical thinking" is an attribute ONLY for the A-theist, are you?
TainoRebelde 2 years ago
Critical thinking isn't limited to any one group of people. By the way, I do not call myself an atheist, although I do not believe in God or anything supernatural/metaphysical. I prefer not to use any term.
