Most professional shooters and law enforcement personnel do not focus on the rear sight at all... this is called front sight focus. eliminating the need to illuminate the rear sight. To answer your question... when u illuminate the target area, you will learn to use your sight posts as an inverse sight block... ie. instead of using a backlit sight picture the foreground is lit and your posts are still negatively visible.

you are wrong ResistanceAirsoft, Surefire Low light techniques are tried and true, they give the tactical operator the upper hand, not the disadvantage. You obviously have not actually taken a surefire low light class, it is a great amount of help in learning low light tactics, it's defenetly not a way for the officer to be mowed down by An AK-47.
When you make entry you wanna see what you're aiming at. You're not a guy who can afford night vision are you? So a flashlight is needed especially in close-quarters. "Dominate with light" usually refers to when you first violently enter. He even goes over "LIGHT AND (then) MOVE" if you weren't paying attention.
@ResistanceAirsoft I guess you've never been faced with a SureFire light in a dark room and been semi-paralyzed by the bright light. A powerful light is very important and tips the equation in your favor when used with the correct tactics.

I have a question:
Are you supposed to use the flashlight to light up your gun sight so you can aim? But when you do so, it creates a shadow of your gun though.

guys, i dont know what you do for a living, but if you face targets with real weapons, you are dead.
"dominate with light" means, you eat a clip of AK-47, fullstopp.
do not risk your life beause of some surefire-ads. light is not a weapons, its a tool that backfires a lot.
