i remember going to india and being taught this song by a bunch of school kids and their teachers. these guys have done something cool and trippy with it :)
@cordedpoodle seriously?! pull that giant hate stick out of your ass. nobody cares about your berklee degree, and don't be sad that people aren't dancing around like maniacs and feeling amazed watching your concerto, because these ones got SOUL, brother. i mean, asshole.
@roshoshea You are easily amazed. Sheech. All 18 year olds think they have "something to say" now. Does being educated mean anything in music? Or can anyone with a few bucks make something "amazing?"
I got the tracklisting for their next album: 1. Birth Of Ganesh (Baby Elephant Walk) 2. Have You Been To India? (You Should Go) 3. I'm Into Hinduism, Baby 4. Party With The Hindu Gods 5. Apu (My Favorite Simpsons Character) 6. Let's Make A Song With Om In It 7. Did I Mention I'm Into Hinduism? 8. Mantra-Cliche 9. Baby Baby (Let's Make Curry) 10. Bindi On Your Forehead .
Its not pretentious at all. Although you may not understand it, this music is spiritual and cultural. The name Prince Rama comes from the epic poem "Ramayana", a narrative allegory that conveyed the cardinal precepts of Hinduism. If you listen to the lyrics you'll hear that they are reciting Hindu and Buddhist mantra's. The lyrics are something like
LOL, its a bit pretentious! And they're playing at the Cafe Oto in Dalston of all places. Pretentious everything. But the weird thing is, i think i like this. Does anyone know if they practise Buddhism because they seem like people who embrace things around them and live in euphoria all day long lol.
@icomeup2urKnees According to wikipedia they were raised "on a Hare Krishna commune in Florida", so I would imagine they have some kind of connection to Hinduism.
I just read my comment. Since writing that, i have listened to this song at least once a day. I grew up in a Hindu household and i learnt to play classical indian music on the harmonium and this is one of the songs i played on it but not the way they do. I've never been exposed to this band before and so glad i came across them by chance. They look so free. I iwish i had been born in a Hare Krishna commune in Florida rather than a 3 bed house in a London Suburban town haha.
@icomeup2urKnees Two of them were raised from birth in a family of Hindu religion. A lot of people think their whole Hindu theme is a cliched shtick when in reality this is just what the grew up with as kids.
@slimturnpike Although contrary to your purpose, I suspect this is one of the greatest validating accolades one could direct at any new music, that it doesn't accord with one's existing sense of reality.
@wwwhatsup you mean the reality you conjure up but which isn't there? your intellectual response to my emotional reaction ... doesn't convince me ... it's all opinion and i stand by mine. happy listening.
Saw them live in Antwerp about a month and a half ago. Couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Even had the chance to talk to them. They're the sweetest persons you've ever met!
i guess if i got all my friends together and did 50+ doses of acid and decided to bang on some shit i could get a record deal. nice singing. and nice short shorts.
Just saw them last night playing with Deakin from Animal Collective. they played at this haunted historic lodge with about 25 other people in attendance, was fucking spectacular.
These guys are insane live.
