Bewitched was not shot in the early fifties. It aired between 1964-1972. By the third season, the show had switched to "living color" as was promoted in a voice over by Elizabeth Montgomery in the opening commercial. I loved the way Elizabeth spoke, and I remember as a young girl of 10 years old, rushing to sit in front of the tv in time to say her lines with her. And the color aspect of all the new season shows was the biggest draw of all as color tv's became more accessible to families.
I read that Alice Pearce knew she had cancer as far back as 1964 when she auditioned for the role of Gladys, but didn't tell the producers for fear that they wouldn't have cast her (whether or not she knew it was terminal yet at that point I don't know, but cancer prognosis in those days was even bleaker than today) She knew she could still perform despite the illness and she was right. Glad she didn't say anything until after she landed the part, and we at least got 2 seasons of her talent.
Alice Pearce filmed this episode (her final one) about 5 weeks before she died---she had already passed away by the time it aired. You can see just how sick she was, but she was a trouper, and her performance was as good and energetic as always. I assume the producers knew she was sick for a long while---long enough to keep the earlier episode ("The Prodigy", filmed 6 months earlier) in reserve before airing it at the end of the season as a tribute to Alice.
Adner is incredibly rude, and also a boring character. Mrs. Kravitz is a great example of how it is often the case that the one who most tries to open people's eyes and reveal the truth, is also the one most ridiculed or dismissed.
Not all things have changed for the better. In one episode Endora invites Sam to go shopping on Sunday, Sam replies, "It's Sunday, all the stores are closed" then came the invent of malls.
If Darrin's genes are Bb as opposed to BB and there's blue eyes in the family, it's technically possible. What IS impossible is that he has brown eyes yet both his "parents" (I think) have the recessive blue eyes.
at the point of the show in 19:25 - 19:28 the man in the light blue suit is moving his finger around while holding a pen and they're all suppose to be frozen i live finding out and noticing these small things i always thought they were in actual freeze frame like the studio took a snapshot
that's because now we can make people "freeze" through special effects. actors then had to literally hold still to create this effect. pretty hard. remember this series ran through the early 1950s
FYI...Prodigy was shown after this episode, but it was filmed about 6 months before. It was a flashback episode to when Sam was pregnant with Tabitha. The producers kept this show back and aired it as the final episode of the 1965-66 season in June 1966 as a tribute to Alice Pearce who died on March 3, 1966. Prodigy was also the final black and white episode of the show. When season 3 premiered in Sept. 1966, it was all color from there on.
As I watched more and more...I noticed how Alice got thinner and thinner. Then I realized she was sick.....It was sad for me to watch knowing that fact.
She played the original Mrs. Kravitz. She later passed way because she had Ovarian Cancer I believe. I think she is the best Mrs. Kravitz. The lady after her...didn't really live up to the role that well.
This is one of my favorite episodes. It is also the final episode Alice Pearce filmed before she died from ovarian cancer. Look at how painfully thin she is in this show. What a great and funny lady she was!........................."ABNER!!!!!!"
mr. kravitz had the best lines.
