Tone is great, despite the audio of this video is a little wack. You should put up another video sometime. :) - I'm doing this piece for one of my college auditions this year.
Excellent, just one thing you should keep in mind is to keep your bow tightly onto the strings. When I played this for state, it was one of the biggest things the judge said was important about this song (also keep in mind your vibrato width/speed)
That's good. As soon as I learn the first movement a little better I'll post up a video of myself playing it so that you can then comment on my playing. I think my bow hold also needs a little more work... on another note: does anyone have any tips for learning a lot of music in a short space of time?
@smarttams Thanks, I certainly see what you mean. I'm happy to report that my bow-hold has been 100% fixed in the last year... and I'd like to think I've developed a little more refinement in my playing, too!
This is so good! I'm playing this now for school. The double stop passage was amazing! The shift for the double stop from first to third position was really great! 2:32-3:02 is such an awkward passage but you handled it very well. Great job!
@saraa272 Babelfish translates what I presume is Spanish:
"note dressing tables there are many you do not have anything of technique! first improvement your technique i later if that ponte to touch easy pieces but (of your level)" /// now whilst I'm sure the literal translation isn't quite on the mark, I can get the gist. So - from the looks of things - NICE TROLL
Wow, I liked it very much! You're very talented. I play the Viola too, and I think its a beautiful piece for a beautiful instrument. I've been practising it like mad for school, took it on holiday to Greece and drove everyone in the hotel crazy! Well Done again!
it's Temmy... haha did not expect to find you here... liking the firm "ok" to commence filming... and haha at some of the comments you've got... I think you're in there... lol
Sure. I mean, I think your playing is quite good for your age. Keep at it. And also, I think you're really cute. Haha, not to say you're not also talented.
Hey, I think you've got a lot of promise, but I noticed something in your playing that I had to observe a few years ago in my own. Its the end of phrases, they sound a bit careless and abrupt, the phrases need to be completed with some care, don't just throw them away. I understand its understand to imagine things like that when you don't have accompaniment, but its good to keep the orchestra part in your head so you know the direction of the music after you play. I hope the audition went well!
I understand what you mean, and though I do think the impact of this problem would be lessened by the addition of the accompaniment, I can't just keep blaming all my errors on the lack thereof! xD
Thanks for the comment; the auditions did indeed go very well. I was offered places at both the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Northern: the two I was most interested in attending.
I played this wondefull piece last year and I think you have plenty of potential. One of the few things I can suggest is to watch your contact point, that would give you a better projection of sound and more control. Musically I think that you might be playing things too legato, by changing some bowings and adding dots to certain notes you can solve that problem. Besides that great playing!!!! :D
I frequently play this piece- here's what i think. just don't let your wrist collapse in on the instrument-lower your thub. You rush your sixteenths/eigths-be careful! They could be clearer. Double-stops: there's not enough difference of character between the 1st statement and the 2nd; don't ever let your bow leave the string during that part. Bow: the best contact point will always be closer to the bridge. lastly, you paid for the bow, so use all of it. nice playing & I hope to hear more.
I'd like to think that playing the piece with its intended accompaniment would fix many of those issues; however I certainly agree that I need to work on my bow technique and wrist position.

I wrote a Concertino for Viola and strings

Download the video to watch it.
Perhaps because it has 12 minutes in HQ, the video does not play entirely in the related page, but if you download it, it comes complete.

you need to fix your bow hold!! as soon as possible. Take more care in your playing. Try and create a work of are rather than just hacking at it.

@TheViola666 Thanks very much! It is a nice piece, but I found myself getting sick of it after a while if I'm being totally honest, haha.
I must say that I'm more of a fan of contemporary and romantic music :O
