  • What a house; I love it!!

  • isabella thorpe, ya little twerp.

  • hope there wasn't anything too important that happened in 9... :(

  • man i wish i was born in that time..its all so romantic :)

  • Where is part 9 ?

  • "And vampires? Don't say vampires! I could bear anything but not vampires!" I love this!

  • @Lilouth33 I could bear vampires, but only if they looked like Eric Northman... :D

  • wheres part 9??? :(

  • I don't like what the girls wear, but the guys look amazing. I'd take ANY of them... just because they dress so well. Guys don't care nearly half as much anymore.... :)

  • I thought for a minute that she was going to end up in Narnia!

  • @Georgia2307 lol

  • that's why cell phones come in handy these days, when you see cheating, immediately contact your bro!

  • @theseow picture action! lol

  • where's part 9..?

  • The setting is Lismore Castle in Ireland

  • lol Not to complete but I'm going to have to drive 16 miles this morning through black ice and snow so rain would be wonderful! OK, BBC. Got it. And I'm with you, not at night. I think even during the day it might creap me out but I'd still like to see the nooks and secret places if there are any. :)

  • I don't think Henry would have gone along with the general's obvious matchmaking set had it not been Catherine. He was addicted I think! lol And in that place, it must have been very lonely for him and his sister. It's not like they have a happy family life, rich or not. And this actress sure can light up a room. :) I always envied one of my friends who had this kind of complection. She, on the other hand, hated it that she blushed. lol And a comfident man is so appealing. Like Henry.

  • Does anyone know what castle/home this really is? It is beautiful. Wouldn't it be fun to have a scavenger hunt there??? Let's go!! lol

  • @Songsmirth ... I have 'googled' Northanger Abbey and the 'Castle' is called ARDBRACCAN House, in County Meath, Ireland...

Very dark and disturbing, but I wouldn't mind having a look-see around it... :0)X

  • @wenglishsal lol. OK, you win. I never thought of simply putting in the movie to find this! I'm learning. Thanks Wenglishai. But you see? I hadn't even thought of the movie angle. You did! Won't happen again. Wouldn't it be fun to take a lot of Austenites and go? It's one of my next stops anyway. I've always gone to France before but there are trains, etc. direct from London and it'd be fun to see the country. Eat fish and chips. Some of the young hostels in Ireland are the best. :)

  • @Songsmirth ... I would also love to have a jolly good snoop around, but definitley NOT at night, the place would give me the heebie-jeebies... But It wasn't the film I googled it was this very BBC production, The picture on the page was of Henry and Catherine, so I knew I had the right one...

Fasinating thing 'google' isn't it... There is indeed a world full of knowledge out there, I was so curious i had to find out..

Best wishes fron a VERY WET Wales today .. :0)X

  • Henry's statement, "I suppose he has a chance with her" means something far different to how Catherine would take it. She would think the Captain might go after Isabella for marriage but Henry knows(I think he does. What do you think who know the book better?) his brother is only after sex. The Captain sees weakness in Isabella's vainity. She thinks she's so worldy because she's read dirty books and can capture a man's eye. Pathetic. A man like the Captain is all about conquest.

  • How can 5 people not like this...DOH and double doh, I LOVE it, and I think I am addicted to period dramas.. hee hee :0)x

  • @wenglishsal Just different types of people. Would you want us to all think alike? It would be like going into a garden and seeing all the same colored flowers. . boring. :) This is getting to be a habit on YT. People condemning others for not thinking the same way. Everyone has the right to their own opinion. .

  • @Songsmirth ... I'm not condeming anyones opinion, I just think who-ever didn't like this is maybe on the wrong page, that's all.. I love all period dramas and would happily watch them all day if I could... As a writer myself, I am open to critic, my proof-readers have told as me as much. So I agree with your views and also lovela colourful garden too... Best regards .. Oh have you seen 'South riding on BBC Sunday night, goning to be another one added to my fav's list I think... :0)x

  • @wenglishsal Thanks for replying. To play devils advocate, maybe they tried to like this kind of period piece and it just wasn't them! And thank you for telling me about, "South Riding" but I don't have a tv. Do you have any other pieces you would recommend?? Always need new material and I think, I think I've watched most that I know here on YT. I need a new author! lol Nice to meet you Wen. I envy anyone with writing skills. :)

  • where is the 9th part???

  • ooooooooowww, his face at 2: 57

    SO CUTE!!!! <3

  • Where is part 9?

  • He makes the best expressions! Like the one in 3:13, 3:47, again in 3:50.......pretty much all the time! :) He's great!

  • @AVBKansas lol I agree and the one at 2:30 when the general gets C's agreement to going with Henry. She smiles at her until his father turns and looks at him and the smile is wipped off his face. lol / I do wish Henry would have tried to warn Isabella somehow but then, Isabella wouldn't have listened. She would believe it wouldn't happen to her. And C's too young to speak of things like this with Henry and then to Isabella. H's sister wasn't close enough to Isabella either so. .

  • Since I also wish I've been born two centuries earlier I propose we all try to behave more polite and with honour and be even more gentleman/ladylike like the 18/19th century without losing sense of reality!

    :)

  • @thelatinguru yeah, sam with you! I wish I was born two centuries too late :(

  • ...."vampires? please tell me there aren't any vampires, I think I could bear anything but vampires" I love the look she gives him there. A small look for Mr. Tilney into Catherine's great mind :)

  • Aww I want a guy like Henry Tillney!

  • you can watch the end of part 5 and the beginning of part 6 of kolab's videos to fill the gap for part 9

  • @sparklingcider302 didn't see this comment and tried kolab's part 9 , thought it was another adaptation

  • sad that part 9 is missing

  • I wish I was born back then!!! It seems so charming and exciting and elegant. . .The dresses were just beautiful. . .(swoons) :D

  • @VivaRiaAme i rather liked the dresses in 'gone with the wind', though they do look uncomfortable

  • @bbiancass Oh, I've never actually seen Gone With the Wind, though I'd very much like too. I love period romances/dramas. . .

  • I didn't read all the comments but saw the first few with no clue as to part 9. In the boom Miss Tilney asks on behalf of the family if she would like to go to Northanger Abbey to stay for a while, but alas! a plot is in the making...

  • from what i can gather, i think in part 9 catherine was just invited to northanger abbey, and isabella probably carried on being flirty and annoying. i dont think we missed much! thank goodness. :)

  • where is part 9?

can anyone give a brief run-through of what I've missed? It will only have been 5 minutes, but I can't bear feeling I've missed something!

  • where is the guy who plays mr tinley from???? he is so familiar but i cant tell where from!

  • where is part 9??

  • @Eveline245 i can't find it either.. can anyone answer me where is part 9?

  • Did part 9 get flagged down or something? I can't find it.

  • ??? Where is part 9?

  • "A chaise and four, how grand" very grand indeed! I read where the estimated cost of a coach and four (matched horses) 3 footmen, a post rider, coachman, liveried outriders, feed, stabling, stable staff, could run up to $100,000.00 per year in today's money. No wonder automobiles were so rapidly adopted.

  • see! flirting already.. what about "i'm in love with the best man in the whole world", isabella? you're definitely a bitch

  • I was lost there for a minute I had to jump to 10 and go back to 9 to get and understanding of what happen.

  • In the part that's missing, Henry asks Catherine to stay at Northanger Abbey for a while with his sister and father and him.

  • what happen to 9??? i cant find it

  • @georgiaredneck193 ..it has been removed from youtube..i dont know why but it's quite inconvient..we shall have to have read the book to understand what happened..-_-

  • So what exactly happened to part 9?????

  • copyright bs

  • The ratbags!!

  • the only thing missing from isabella 's pretty face is a price tag to complete her whore personality

  • i think eleanor's a little too old... love the film though

  • it is really amazing how very little has changed society, even with all of the technology and liberation it is all "he said" ... "she said"... does he like me ... etc :)

  • yes the "he said"... "she said"... is all still there but proper courtesy and propriety has lost all mean I think.. well almost all

  • 5:52 i thought she was going to find a Mr. Tumnus there standing near a Lamp post

  • ahm....i am starting to be a bit scared now..

  • Comment removed

  • who is the actress who plays catherine?

  • @elizebethjames

    Felicity Jones

  • HOGWARTS!!?

  • i love how her imagination is running rampant around the town with her

  • there was no tv or internet, cell phones etc, it was all about the conversation between people

  • ok..I am completely in love with Henry Tilney..ahha..I'm in love with Mr.Darcy too...ok..I think I'm in love with all Jane Austen's main male heroes..ahhha

  • Mr. Bingley is my absolute favorite and shortly behind him is Mr. Tilney. Darcy is lovely of course but I don't think I could have the patience with him that Elizabeth has. Elizabeth is just perfect for him.

haha, I love talking about Jane Austen characters as if they were real people

  • and they all tend to be HOT in the movies :D hahaha

  • For all the talk about times being so different , some things don't change much. Women still parade around wearing all sorts of contraptions to get men's att'n (from Spanx to 4" heels...& yes, some still wear corsets). Beauties still similarly use it to their advantage. Today's equality seems to be partly that a woman can work hard, buy her own peacock attire & can be financially successful enough to buy her own Manolos, etc., both for her own enjoyment & for greater marketability. LOL

  • I wouldn't mind having a room like that.

  • A chase and four! Fancy that. lol.

  • what a hoe that dam isabella

  • spooooky!

  • Isabella is so wicked

  • Seems so strange for women at that time - parading around spa towns like Bath like peacocks on show hoping to snare a husband - lives completely reliant on men and maybe what daddy might give you - better hope you were born rich - if not maybe you could do well if you were a beauty - if poor and plain you were sh*t outta luck.

The movies "Vanity Fair" and "The House of Mirth" are good for getting close to the straight dope on what times were really like for women.

  • Fair comment, nowadays theres equility, and women dont have to do that anymore, but we all still seem to be wanting more than we did back then.

Perhaps mankinds past has more to offer us than the future.

  • I agree with gnarlywrinkledwench..

Looks charmming, but the life that time must have been really hard... and

I can't imagine living with all the strange rules..

althought I like the dresses they wear =D

  • henry is so handsome!!

  • Hahaha. You two are so cute!! It all looks charming, but only if you were born into money, otherwise is was really tough living. You might also enjoy Vatel with Gerard Depardieu, and Dangerous Beauty with Catherine McCormack. They're cool period movies, but there's strife in the stories.

  • oh thelatinguru i think so too!!!

  • it's really sad, but I keep on thinking I was born two centuries too late!

  • @thelatinguru same here T.T

  • @thelatinguru most of us girls think that way,I'm afraid...

  • @thelatinguru I SO AGREE WITH YOU!!! ITS JUST NOT FAIR IS IT?

  • @thelatinguru Believe me, you are not the only one to have such feelings :)

  • @thelatinguru

    I feel the same way!

  • @thelatinguru : Yes, you take into account only the pleasant parts of that period, not the bad aspects (less rights than today, prejudices related to fortune and title, no access to education for everyone, etc, etc).

  • Love that wardrobe!

  • I love this movie, but they should really have tried to choose something more abbeylike, not a castle.

  • Catherine also was disappointed by its aspect... it's the whole point to show the difference between her imagination and reality.....it was really quite an ordinary mansion in the novel...

  • You can really feel the chemistry with Catherine and Henry.

  • issabelle is such a whore!!!

  • and a manipulator. She accuses Catherine of being a flirt!!!

  • read the book it tell you all that stuff

  • Is mr tilney trying to set catherine up with henry? or is he interested in her himself?

at first, I thought the latter but now I am not sure..

  • it is the former... as i'm sure you've found out by now

  • i htink mr. thorpe told mr tilney that she had a lot of money and so he is trying to get his son and her together...

but she doesn't have a lot

  • I think mr. Tilney do that becouse John(Issabella`s brother) told him Catherine has a lot of money...

  • I know ! the way he looked at her nefore was a bit wierd,

  • Isabela Thorpe always proclaiming her innocence. She is the feminine counterpart of "Bleak House" Harold Skimpole.

  • UGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SO DO NOT LIKE ISabella! :(

  • i love his face at 3:14 <3

  • Lol I know--it's almost pouty XD

  • Henry has the most charming smile.

  • @MsKittyTHEcat oh heck yeah!

  • ugh Isabella is so annoying. Catherine is so pretty <3

  • I love the Allens.

  • Northanger is hands down my most loved by Austen but someone should of slapped Miss Isabella....

  • Mrs.Thorpe should be slapped!

  • I would like to have a mail-order Tilney, please.

  • oh yes i deffinetly agree. he reminds me of jude law. lol i wouldnt mind a mail order him either :)

  • Vampires? Almost a century off is it not?

I wonder who wrote the script..

Or were vampires already heard of by then, I always thought that all of that came with Bram Stoker to the west world.(england, france, scandinavia.. germany?)

  • Not at all. Germany had legends of vampires from as early as Charlemagne, but he is referring to vampirism, such as something sucking the life from you. As we use the term "emotional vampire." Et cetera.

  • the legend of vampires were long ago before Bram Stoker wrote about them- they could be found in the folklore of different cultures from Eastern Europe- which is not quite far from England- the term was mostly identified as a being waking up from death and "sucking" the energy or blood of those alive.

  • Catherine and Tilney are so darned cute individually and together! And I could listen to JJ Feild's voice all day :)

  • I want a Mr Tilney!!!!

  • cool. I'd be thrilled about a place like that too

  • Read the book. It is by far superior. Though Mr. Tilney is quite handsome and Catherine is just adorable.

  • wow isabella.. biatch..

  • Mr. Tinley i daresay is quite handsome

  • Does Isabella not have any common sense?

Thats seriously dumb to flirt with a man in front of your future sister-in-law, as we all noticed.

    Geez.

  • isabella is such a bitch!!"ur daer daer brother"as if :@

  • That place is HUGE! Wow, I could never live anywhere like that xD I would hate to lose my keys in that place.

  • LOL

  • that castle looks perfect to do a vampire movie

  • I don't feel any shivers when the Captain speaks. In fact, he reminds me of Alan Rickman.

  • Me too!

  • I think Alan Rickman would better be fit for the General. Lol. That would be really really cool. I would have watched it a lot sooner than now

  • I agree 8D

  • haha thats so true!!!

  • love to see vampires :))

  • The actress who plays Mrs. Allen looks familiar.

  • captain tinley has a sexy voice but his smile & face is sooo creepy!!!

  • The Captain's deep voice gives me the shivers ... and I do agree with the comments about the Daddy Captain being very very creepy ...

  • he would be sexy if he didnt give off the creep vibe

  • i thought i was the only one who finds that creepy!!and he smiles!! the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! lol

  • haha katherine is so gullable

  • oops neva mind that comment

  • ooo spooky castle! So very exciting! Good thing I read the book first or I might just be dying of suspense right now XP

  • omg, if there was a girl planning on marring my brother, and she would act like that.. i would hit her in the face :O:O or in that time.. just ruing all her chances on having money :D:D

  • yes yes yes ....

  • Catherine is so pretty she looks like a princess

  • Isabella.....such a gold-digger! I HATE her.

  • she is quite horrible.

but when you think about it she is really just a horny girl who wants to get it one and when she can't with james (she has to wait the two years) she goes for the next best thing, the captain.

  • I think it's more with money in view- to be the wife of the heir of Northanger would be quite a lot more attractive than being the wife of a gentleman of only 400 a year. Ofcourse she should have considered er married happiness a quite bit more, her brother was for once right when he spoke about Cap. Tilney, he's a pretty bad choice..

  • tilney has such a charming smile :)))

  • i wish all boys were as nice and sweet as henry is! =]

  • dis bitch. IT seems to be one in every story dat make me mad like Isabella does. GRR! poor James.

  • Isabella is a wretched WHORE!

  • AARGH!

    ISABELLA MAKES ME SO ANGRY!

    ...hate her...

  • Pinche Isabela

  • ugh isabella...

  • how wonderful to visit a place like that!

catherine seems so young, but henry is so adorable.

  • I went there! It's Lismore Castle in Ireland, the Duke of Devonshire's Irish home. It's just as pretty in real life.

  • so is the father playing match maker for his son

    lol

  • Thank You scampostrini !

  • I love Mr Tilney. Hes so nice and smiley

  • omg! Was that a closet?! I want one that big! XD So huge u need a ladder! XD

  • those 2(isabella and captain) are both so bad that their good for eachother, I feel bad for catherines brother

  • isabella is a slag

  • Although the girl who plays her in this version is very faithful to the text.

  • That's one big house

  • Isabella is a HOOCHIE

  • No!!!!!

    Not vampires!!!!

  • Isabella is a foul creature!

  • Despise Isabella. Love Catherine. Adore Tilney!

  • Amen

  • me too lol

  • Tilney is ALWAYS adorable.
