  • Why don't they show cool commercials like this in the USA? All the cute commercials are shown in Europe. Not fair!

  • 100% real btw, check out snopes.com/photos/advertisements/hondacog.asp

  • just found out that it took 606 takes of this to get it right and about 6 million bucks average. thats fantastic

  • the song is Rapper's Delight performed by The Sugarhill Gang

  • Oh Honda, you make the best got damn adverts ever.

  • What the fudge is the song dmmit

  • its not fake the wheels got perfictly balenced weights on top that move yes the triers are hollow but yeah thats how that happens

  • brilliant!!

  • fake

  • @ayrik1 NO fake

  • @therobott fake. wheels cant roll up

  • @Freerider456789 wheels modified

  • I'd love to see how they made this commercial. Any link to it?

  • @Fantageous

According to snopes, it's all real, and took over 600 takes before it went just right. No CG or anything.

  • wooo this song in the end sounded like daft punk's around the world :O i must have it any remix names ? O_O

  • @JimFattoo7 - the last 5 or seconds, is the bassline from Rappers Delight - Sugar Hill Gang.

  • @deNorbury nice (Y) thx dude :D

  • nice rube goldberg device. it is sweet

  • No CGI here.

  • is it a concept

  • Those tires look unbeliveable.

    Explanations?

  • I heard the tires were top-weighted with bolts or something, just enough to do a partial-turn uphill.

  • thats not really possible becasue they didn't need to add anything 'cause the object the struck it had just enough momentum to hit it to get the result

  • they put weights on it

  • I remember this ... what's amazing too, is that this all really worked. It took many takes, but this is really one take - no video cutting...

  • actually one cut! but no CG

  • haha.. i just heard the rappers delight! the song in the end.

excellent ad.. v used it in our documentary on advertisement.

  • it worked on the 606th try, 6 yrs to get it to work

ps. hondas founder or something says success is 99% failure

  • i help set up this video in2005

  • Rube Goldberg Machine- Honda Style

  • clear, precious piece of work. Wise choices of lightning, tempo and obviously bunch of creative guys with parts from Honda Accord locked up in a room with about kilo of ganja :D

  • surprisingly it took about 605 tries

  • Legendary advert

  • Fantastic advert. One of the best.

  • wait....

    that's not an accord!

  • actually it took over 600 tries

  • actually 6000 tries

  • This is a real video too, it took the people who made it over 500 trys

  • this is a real video...and a wheel can go upp a slop if you put a weight into the wheel..they did it in this video...

  • how does the tyre static like that?before it was hit,i cant saw anything holding the tyre from moving down.

  • they balanced the tire with the weight..like you can balance a knife on your finger even if it´s heavyer on one side. all thins have a "balance point".

  • dude theres weights in the tire dummfuck

  • why dont you try it? then tell us the fact

  • what's the song at the end?

famous but I do not remember...

  • rappers delight

  • dude i did the samt thing to my 1991 volvo i swear

  • creative!

  • its alright

  • I think it's full 3D

  • No, it's Digital, no one uses film anymore. (At least not much anymore.)

  • Its real.

  • It cost 6 million to make this?

  • Great!

  • Honda, it just works.

  • That was insane. You no that they actually did that!! WOW

  • Howd they get the wheels to go up a hill?

  • Counterweights.

  • that would be cool to have in ur garage

  • that would be cool to have in ur garage

  • nice :o

  • yes cuz tires definately roll UPhill.

    *rolls eyes*

  • The tires are weighted and set at the exact point where they are motionless, but enough weight is added allowing them to roll up hill for a short moment of time once disturbed.

  • my friend saw this in class too

  • wow..

  • we watched it in class!

  • who r u ? i saw this in class too ! do u go to jefferson ms ?

  • nooo....

  • i watched in calls too xD

our teacher wanted us to have some examples for our experiment

we also have to do something like this just homemade xD

  • Geth ..... SUPER APPU....

  • it actually took 606 times to perfect nd over 6 million dollars

  • how can the tyre roll up through that board? I can't believe only that part of the advert

  • It does look really odd, but it isn't hard to do. It rolls uphill because there is a weight inside at the top making it top-heavy. When bumped the weight will drop to the bottom, carrying the tire uphill.

  • do you take physics at school? if you do you'll get why hollow metal tires can go up-hill..

  • @Penguinz13989

    thats ez shit to learn

i learned it in grade 7

  • i remember this advert

  • that is some awesome stunt work, wouldnt buy a honda though but nice adv anyway

  • What is the name of the song?

  • sugar hill gang - rapper's delight

  • The stunt at 1:29... the movement of the windows produces wind like a fan and blows it over :D

  • "dont you just love when things just work?"

    what a lie lawlalwlawlal.

    it took 276 outakes.

Yeah i do like it when things just work..AFTER 276 TRIES!

  • Wiki says 606 times.

  • it is so amazing!! but i just have one question: how did they do the stunt at 1 min 29 seconds??

  • --x that was way too long.

  • i have the making of the advert on dvd, should i rip it and post here?

  • Interesting visually, but it would still not make me buy a Honda.

  • g..d! c..l!

  • Right with the wheels going up the ramp, they have weights at a certain part of the wheel, and when it got knocked, the weight was pulled down greater than the force pulling the wheel down the ramp, and therefore went up

    =]

  • Rube Goldberg, you are not forgotten!

  • from 26 to 31 are impossible tho

  • Not if the tires have counterbalances on the backs of the wheels.

  • most expensive ad ever...

  • Without a doubt the greatest vehicle advert ever made.

  • Those who can go to Cannes. Those who can't go to Coney.

    wrathofcannes dot com

  • Gr8t ad,but watching it, it's kinda seemed longer than 2min. Super ad!!

  • how did they get the wheels to roll uphill at 26 seconds into the video???

  • Screws and nuts etc, placed perfectly inside the tyres so that upon the slightest movment, the tyre will roll in the desired direction a short distance.

  • got it. thanks!

  • Oh God! brilliant job!!

  • best advert ever made

(my friend just doesn't appreciate the complexity of it)

  • I have a Special Edition DVD of this! It shows the making of the advert!!

  • How did you get that?! I love seeing the making of and behind the scenes of television.

    :)

  • yeah, not fake: shearch for "Auncio (Ad) Honda Accord-Making off" or "Accord making off" something like that. Very good result []^_^[]

  • Incredible.

  • great idea, nice ad. bt 2mins is kinda long isnt it?

  • UMMMM..... It actually took 606 takes and cost 6 million dollors to make.

  • this is 100% genuine and took six million and six takes to create. The tryes are also totally real and I think you need to give great apreciation for this advert!

  • blablabla kama kame rene sreme kuma kume raci dume. listu fistu pire kire, asde razde loha dzime.

  • Why should they even edit this?

It took about 810 takes to do this right :) .

  • um... the tires have weights in them... it doesn't take a genius to figure that out

  • fake the tire stoped and then went up hill duh......

  • Not fake, 100% genuine, I have the DVD of the making of this ad

  • there were weights in the tires

  • nicely done, creative

  • OK the wheel part is fake but the ad is still better than the car!

  • Good ad, but Honda as a brand doES not inspire me, pretty souless really, the cars do not have the c-word CHARACTER!!

  • Awsome! We're studying energy and force in my science,so we watched this today.Everyone was amazed

  • its a awsome advert, i woz thinkin what skill! but then i looked closer and some bits must of been edited...lyk the wheel part! still good tho!

  • ok ok, the whole wheel thing is contreversal but at 1:40 the speakers look fake some other components look like they were added in with special effects...

  • Thanks for posting this. I've always wanted to see the full version of this ad. We only got to see the shorter version in Australia.

  • The tires are counterbalanced or are cgi on the board. You can tell its not normally possible because the 2nd and 3rd tire are sitting on the incline board before the other one arrives, which isnt possible, because they would role down the board when they were set like that :P

  • To answer ur questions about d wheel, here is wat audiobimmer sill say:This is indeed all real. The wheels rolling uphill do so because they were counterbalanced (inside the tire) at the apex, so as to roll forward. Even more surprising, all of the parts (with the exception of some things, like the jack holding up a plank, etc.) were taken from a number of disassembled Accords donated to the ad agency (even the balance weight inside the wheels was made up of extra parts).

  • It's cool. I was paying attention onto how the wheels were ascending on to the board and I just noticed that the third wheel went up two times. Correct me if I am wrong but I think there is no way for it to move forward/upward again after moving a little backward (after impact with the fourth wheel)because of gravity. I also viewed the "Cog Extended" and I noticed that the scene was edited. Please compare it with this video and you would notice the difference. I might be wrong though.

  • This is pretty cool, but some parts seemed not real. 0:27 Come on. That's got to be fake.

  • nope.

  • It just looks it.

  • Great stuff, Honda rule, end of story.

  • hell yea. GO HONDA

  • loser ad hacks come up with an original concept - this total ripoff of the artists diller+ scofidio chain reaction video.

  • because NO ONE had done it before that either!

  • Fischl and Weiss did similar work in 1988, watch "the way things go". By your criteria, these diller+scofido chums are ripoff artists as well.

  • There were no weights in the tires...

When you bump a tire, the pressure inside causes it to move. No weights, just air pressure. Confirmed in the making of video

  • there is vids of this were they are trying to get it right but it doesnt. this took them ages!

  • yeah, its all real, (tires arent just rolling by themselves, audiobimmer's got it)... but one question i have is the spring rolling on the board, opening the window and rolling through... how does the board go through the closed window? is there a small gap between the two pieces?

  • This is indeed all real.

  • hahahaha they still show this on tv here.. i love it

  • this is REAL - each wheel tips forwards after they receive the impulse from the preceding wheel. It only looks strange because they are moving slowly. If they were moving quickly we would just accept it! They are heavy enough, however, to have sufficient momentum to carry themselves uphill - albeit slowly.

    GREAT AD THOUGH! :-)

  • anyone who thinks it is fake, post a physics proof that shows those wheels cannot roll uphill. otherwise, learn your math and shut up.

  • the wheels going up the ramp defy gravity accelerate even after they're hit. that must be CG.

  • incredibly old but amazing video. this is real.

  • It's all for real. Get your facts rights before you post.

  • The famous "Honda Accord - Cog" commercial is animated. Its logicaly imposible for this domino effect to work in real life. Physics would deny it the satisfaction. Animated or not it's a well crafted commercial

  • It is most definatley not animated. and as CaptainCam said, it really did need 606 takes to get it right.

They were giving away free DVDs in magazines when they first aired it, and on the DVD they have a series of outtakes and such.

And to anyone who thinks it's impossible for the wheels to roll up the slope... the wheels were oddly weighted on the uphill spoke, making them roll upwards when unbalanced

  • Obviously, this is the most amazing thing I'll see today. Wow.

  • Does anyone know?.... that wasnt real right? CG?

  • This is 100% real! I heard it took them 606 takes to get it right. If you like it search for Rube Goldberg machines.
