@EnigmaWellness When I got to ITS, I wipe the honor guards sleeve w/ my snoot. Heeeehehe he didn't do a danm thing about it. By the way I was picked not him for recon school, "smoked": your boy: Chief! Yep Native: Navajo from Holbrook,AZ.
I remember the hours spent on that grinder and winning honor platoon in final drill and getting to go to the movies as a reward from our Senior. It was about 4 days before graduation and when the movie was over, we simply walked back to our squadbay as a group, no formation, no cadence. That was when I knew our D.I.'s were human and very proud of us. That was 1982. Semper Fi.
@Soldier1287 its not a honor grad, they are guides, that means they assisted their DI's to an extent while in basic training. If you want to be a marine sign when you are 17, you recruiter will put you in the DEP, ( delayed entry program) where you can start to mentally and physically prepare for basic training, just remember, they wont offer you a rose garden! Semper Fi.
the reason those Marines are in dress blues is because of Commercial Perversion. the only authorized Marine to wear dress blues at a graduation ceremony is the Honor Marine (one per graduating platoon).
Watching this hits my heart. I see that parade deck and those buildings in the background and I rememnber how my whole life was changed there. First watching my big brother graduate there in 1966 and then I graduated there in 1978. This Recruit Depot has a special place in my heart and always will. I love to go there now as an older man and experience the sounds there that never change with time.
I agree with you 110% this place changed my life, I graduated in 1994 but will never, never forget what the Marine Corps did for me, I still have all my uniforms and alot of other gear, every time I dump out my sea bag it brnigs back alot of good memories.
Wow, I had all my seabag stuff and uniforms in the attic and they disintegrated! lol I still have my bootcamp coverblock and battalion PT T-shirt and rubber namestamp but thats it. Oh, and I still hav the little bible they issued me in receiving barracks.
@LosAngeleno1959 What battalion were you in ? I was in 2nd battalion and would love to find a 2nd battalion PT shirt from the late 70's era..I graduated January 11, 1980
@jbr9029537 I was in 2nd Battalion and still have my Yellow T-shirt put away but it's pretty faded and it still has my name stamped on the inner neckband. Who were your DI's?
ive probably been told this in the past but how does a marine fresh fro basic on graduation day earn his dress blues for graduationday unlike the rest of the marines?
everyone is given the blues uniform at boot camp. just not the blues jacket. it's not "earned", you just have to buy it on your own after boot, possibly because it's the only thing (to the best of my knowledge) that is never required to be worn for mandatory events. I'm not positive because I graduated when it was hot out, so no one wore the blues jacket, but it's possible the guides bought theirs before graduation.
I graduated from San Diego. Had green (Charlie) on family day and Blue (Delta) the next day on grad day. Only the "Guide" (Honor Grad) wears the full dress blues.
No, Danny graduated as a Honor Guard or something like that. He's recently received a meritorious promotion to corporal while in Afghanistan and is coming home on leave this month.
I leave for boot camp next monday (May 11th). I'm hoping to graduate with honors or top of class, which ever. I can get a perfect IST, but on the PFT 3-Mile I'm short by like a minute and change. Anyone have any last minute advice on getting guide in boot camp?
Whatever you do, dont piss of your drill instructors. Show that you have heart and dedication and they will see that. U might even get promoted while at bootcamp for all your hard work. Work hard and if they ever need a volunteer for anything. Volunteer! They also go of whose bigger badder and who can handle the leader ship responsabilities. Good luck.
well NO SHIT! awesome good for you! i think their might be still the possabilty to get lance... i think.... im not sure. either way good luck! and i get promoted to lance in July! woot woot
How do you go in as a PFC? Im hoping to enlist in 2 and a half years, and Im just looking for any advise for before I go. The reason I want to know how you go in as PFC is cuz im hoping to be a scout sniper (high hopes) but watever.
if your guide, you graduate with dress blues, but cannot wear them until exactly one year later. if your not guide you graduate with Delta's or Charlies, one of those two (sorry its getting real late and im very exhausted just got home from 24 hr fitness)
um... i got to wear my dress blues whenever... i wore at my sisters wedding... as long as u wear them for FORMAL events you should be fine... And ofcourse if u have all your medals and badges in the right spot. Oorah!
WOW...i believe that these dirty niggers called marines, are just idiots, who fight for the banksters, who don't care for them,or for their family, when they killed...just im sory for you stupid guys...you are totally fucked from your government....and now you are to fucked from an nigger slave...im sorry for you...idiots
Be a leader, work harder, do more, pass the tests . . . You might want to contact other Marines to ask them. I'm just the mom and right now, my son, Lcpl. Picketts is in Afghanistan - still being the best.
its all up to the D.I's but you don't want to be the first guide because you will not make it all the way to the end of boot because if the platoon screws up on something you will get the ass chewing and the I.T.
Guess I will have ask my girl friend in Parris Island when she graduates. One more year to finish up school then I am going in as well to be what the Parris Islanders call a "Hollywood Maine" though I am going to see what I can do to enlist on the other side of Mississippi so I can go to Parris Island.
