He is so deep, and amazing. I am crying now. It is weird, I feel I knew him, and I miss him so much that my heart hurts. I love you Jeremy Brett, and will always do my friend.
How is it that a personality can make someone so beautiful?
Please forgive me for saying this but when I first saw Brett I didn' think he was beautiful or cute etc, when I watched some episodes of his Sherlock Holmes he went beyond all those things! Such a gentleman filled with grace, so wonderful and beautiful!
Rest in peace Jeremy Brett, you truly are amazing!
@Dratini999 He was actually bisexual, having married the actress Anna Massey and then living with one of his fans in the 80s (she wrote a book about him)
What a HUNK, a beautiful man! So what! He suffered a great deal, the death of his second wife. Plus he was also bipolar. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes then tell us how to live your life!
@Dratini999 Well, he was married twice and had a child, so he was probably bi, cuz he went a little bit mad after his second wife died and he really loved her, so I'm thinking bi is much more likely. That's still pretty hot, though! =)
@JuanMacready: He was bisexual and if anything that makes him only more attrative to women (and surely some men).
What a charismatic and graceful man. The first time I saw him as Holmes I couldn't believe how much it was like he had stepped right out of the books and the Strand Magazine engravings. I can't thank him enough for creating the character so close to the one in the stories. And as someone who as cancer and depression running in the family is makes me sad he had to deal with it.
@JuanMacready: Aren't you that troll who is a fanatic Rathbone fan and claims Jeremy died of HIV because one of his former lover died from it almost 2 decades after they separated?
And I'm sure you know how Doyle described Holmes? I don't see how anyone could come closer to the desciption than Brett. No offence to Mr. Rathbone but the blatant 40ies look of the episodes, pc-ness, US-feeling and his portrait that is too light and jolly (plus the funny sidekick Watson) don't do anything for me.
@JuanMacready: You call something better that turns a dark, un-pc, even by todays standards modern series of stories into something jolly and hilarious better than something that is as close to the original as possible? XD Sorry, but no. I understand that some people are attached to the Rathbone versions because they saw them as children or didn't read the stories or do not like the asshole factor of the original Holmes but those versions are nowhere as close to the real Holmes as Brett's is.
Whatever the vice, a most extraordinary talent..... I also believe there is evidence in his performances that he knew of his fate of an early death.....!
@PeterFirthFan: Sorry, but that is a disgusting and heartless thing to say. People who suffer from depression and other mental problems often try to deal with the symptoms in ways that might not be healthy. But if you knew how horrible those illnesses can make you feel you would not imply that someone deserved to die or even brought it on himself because he smoked a lot. What the heck? Maybe one day you will get brain cancer because your mind is so nasty.
*sniffles* ever since I was 6 years old and saw my first Sherlock Holmes movie, I had a crush on him. I was devastated to find out that he had died :(
So sad, Jeremy i will always believe has now gone to a much brighter and beautiful time and place, where he will shine out like the brightest star in the sky - RIP jeremy we all really loved you - XX
Would you believe that I didn't know before today that he played Freddy Eyensfrod-Hill? Goes to show how long it's been since I've seen My Fair Lady... I think I was twelve last time I saw it. The DVD has been gathering dust for seven years...
@LouisElegantRequiem I just saw that Louis and I'm with you! I'm a little shocked. I can't tell that it's him at all. Wow. Did he do the singing for it as well? It was well done. I have, "My Fair Lady." Will see if it's on here. Thanks for posting this X. :)
Agreed...he was to Sherlock Holmes what David Suchet is to Poirot! Basil Rathbone had the look...but not the direction or backdrop to go with it. With Brett, the production values and the man come together to form a brilliant whole!
I think he was the best in playing Holmes, as this was the only acting I have seen him in, I do believe he was great in being an actor. It was his air that, for me, forgot it was a play or show that I was there with him and Watson solving the crimes. Not many actors can do that to me and none these days for sure. Great tribute this was.
RIP

@Trampadoo The fourteen Rathbone films with the hilarious Nigel Bruce are far better than the Granada series.

Edward hardwicke said Brett smoked 60 cigarettes a day. He might not have deserved his early death, but he certainly brought it on himself.
PeterFirthFan 2 years ago
if thats true or not is a diff question; but he didnt die of that anyway
oli3659 2 years ago
Smoking was what caused his death from heart failure at the relatively early age of 61.
