Please forgive me for saying this but when I first saw Brett I didn' think he was beautiful or cute etc, when I watched some episodes of his Sherlock Holmes he went beyond all those things! Such a gentleman filled with grace, so wonderful and beautiful!

What a charismatic and graceful man. The first time I saw him as Holmes I couldn't believe how much it was like he had stepped right out of the books and the Strand Magazine engravings. I can't thank him enough for creating the character so close to the one in the stories. And as someone who as cancer and depression running in the family is makes me sad he had to deal with it.

And I'm sure you know how Doyle described Holmes? I don't see how anyone could come closer to the desciption than Brett. No offence to Mr. Rathbone but the blatant 40ies look of the episodes, pc-ness, US-feeling and his portrait that is too light and jolly (plus the funny sidekick Watson) don't do anything for me.

People who suffer from depression and other mental problems often try to deal with the symptoms in ways that might not be healthy. But if you knew how horrible those illnesses can make you feel you would not imply that someone deserved to die or even brought it on himself because he smoked a lot. What the heck? Maybe one day you will get brain cancer because your mind is so nasty.

Agreed...he was to Sherlock Holmes what David Suchet is to Poirot! Basil Rathbone had the look...but not the direction or backdrop to go with it. With Brett, the production values and the man come together to form a brilliant whole!

I think he was the best in playing Holmes, as this was the only acting I have seen him in, I do believe he was great in being an actor. It was his air that, for me, forgot it was a play or show that I was there with him and Watson solving the crimes. Not many actors can do that to me and none these days for sure.
