How could someone afford to take a week off to travel to Washington DC to protest government unless they were rich, on the government dole, unemployed and living with someone.

All these people at this event want to change there country. they are intelligent peace loveing people. This event would of had a much better effect if instead of sings and posters they would have been waiving assult rifals. u see it over seas all the time. the people you see marching in the streets with guns have been opressed for decades now. This bill represents the same incrementalist increase in governmental control. Monopoly can only exist in an economic environment of compulsion. In a free market, businesses fail by the command of the People. However, when business' have the ear (more importantly, the pocket of politicians), then they can form cartels through governance and regulation. Our health care system has been broken by gov't. Government Run health care would cost less and be better for the patients the only Americans who may get worse health care would be the uber rich.

Which is why government wastes every dollar they steal from the people. Profit motive ensures incentive to eliminate wasteful behavior and provide the best quality at the lowest price. Failure to do so in a free market results in business failure. Success means providing real quality, affordably. Government has a long track record of doing neither well.

It's a matter of whether you'd rather your provider be motivated by profit or by votes. Take your pick. Because you can't buy insurance across state lines, there's barely a difference. Private insurers in this scenario will give you a good deal because they want your business. What's Washington's motivation? Also if they manage health care the way they've managed Iraq, if they can't support people sacrificing their lives for us...and we want them to have MORE responsibility?

It is the philosophical idealogy of Objectivism, a philosophy founded by Ayn Rand, heavily based in Aristotle's teachings. Unfortunately, our Constitution has collectivist underpinnings written into it. And yes, I share that morality.

basspig...it's fine that you want to wax about the philosophical merit of Any Rand's work. Nonetheless, Ayn Rand's philosophy can only be applied to an interpretation of the Constitution retroactively, seeing how she was not alive in 1776 and was writing in a different century altogether.

Perhaps, a better question to pose to you would be, exactly what aspects of the Constitution do you feel have been violated?

Did you feel safer when your phone was being tapped under the Patriot Act?

I have no interest in commenting on an imperfect Constitution. While it is better than the guiding documents of other nations, it still failed to identify that individual rights, including property rights, are indivisible from freedom. "To provide for the common good.." at whose expense? "To lay and collect taxes" is another flaw that opened the door to the use of force to enslave individuals to the collective.

You don't have to hate them to point out flaws in their writings however. They didn't anticipate such creative manipulation of words by modern day politicians could be used to usurp our freedoms one day. Allowing the use of some language in the Constitution opened the door to servitude and slavery via taxation and regulation.

Are you sure about that? Defending the Nation is part of it, but you seem to be forgetting the "promote the general Welfare" and "Insure Domestic Tranquility" part.

The government's only purpose is to 'keep the peace' by making sure justice prevails in a world of sin. It is to be run by We The People since those in government are also imperfect humans. The constitution limits government power on this notion. Promoting general welfare does not mean take away from the work force nor does insure domestic tranquility mean declaring martial law Resteep.

Republicans act like Democrats want the government to provide *everything*. Not true. Health care is a very special and separate issue. Imagine a man who just needs some penicillin in order to live. Do we really want to live in a country where he will DIE because he is too poor to afford it? This is the issue we are fighting for! I cannot understand why these Tea Party folks have so little empathy for the poor and the destitute.

The majority of Democrats would hate socialism as much as Republicans! I'm a Democrat, and would hate a communist/socialist country! The ONLY thing we want provided by the government is this ONE thing -- health care. We are NOT seeking to have everything provided by government, just this. And why? Because we Democrats believe it is a *fundamental human right* to receive health care if you are sick. Because millions of fellow Americans *die* each year because they can't afford a doctor!
