When the earth is opened up and chemicals/heat are released into the atmosphere via water vapor etc. this can cause monsoons and huge floods. As is the case with thousand needles perhaps.

dammit! this is why cataclysm will ruin the warcraft series. not only does this change the environment of azeroth, thanks to deathwing, but also because of use losing our lands, the alliance is winning, and that the only thing we've gain is Ahsenvale. We want Azeroth to remain the same, we want our land back, and we want Horde to have Ashenvale, and we want Horde to be a lone superpower, not alliance nazis.
