Matthew - great and inspiring playing! I have a question about the UB-1. Does it have a tone ring sitting on top of the pot under the vellum? I ask because I've got a chance to pick one up, but the pot appears to have a sharp angle under the vellum, and on all others I've seen, including yours, the vellum looks to be sitting on a curved edge, not a sharp one. I'm wondering if there should be a tone ring under there, because if so, it appears to be missing~!
@MrJnobianchi - Hey there! The UB-1 does not have a tone ring. The only Gibson ukelele banjo I have seen with a tone ring is a UB-4 and UB-5. On the UB-1 there is a radiused bevelled edge on the pot. Hope this helps.
@m134mr Yes - thank you, that's a huge help, indeed. It's always hard to buy online without playing an instrument, but It looks like this one is intact and in fine shape.
I agree with your assessment of these Baby Gibsons; I like the sound of all my ukes, but the UB1 is pretty distinctive and appealing.
I just bought an old vintage banjolele. Im trying to get it to sound right. I'm experimenting with different bridges. What type of strings do you use? Nylon ukulele strings? The banjolele actually came with one old gut string. I never experienced one of those before. It was great.
Hi Matt. I'm not even new to the uke, but My dad and his dad and his dad played, so I would like to carry on the tradition. As a compleate begginer, could you, or anybody else here reccomened a specific instrument to me, and a course of instruction. How much should I spend on my first uke. Is it wise to start with a cheaper ukelele or should I get the best I can afford?
Hi Matt, Would it be possible to show some of the simple chords, for us beginers, I have trouble in getting Bb my fingers dont seem to be long enough.
I was just wondering: could you possibly do a video to show us how to play the solo from "I Told My Baby With the Ukulele"? I'd love to learn that bit properly!
All your videos are excellent. How much do your banjo uke's weigh? I want to buy a banjo uke but I've been told some are too heavy (Gold Tones, Ashburys etc)
Are rally ukulele resonator ukes good for formby tunes?

Great demo. The Gibson wins it for me. I like the subtlety of it. Thanks. 5 stars.
