  • Are rally ukulele resonator ukes good for formby tunes?

  • @CLASSICMONSTERGUY95 stay away!

  • your good, great video thankyou

  • Matt Richards is a top Bloke. He was great to train with at the RNCB and had some interesting girlfriends! Nice tutorial Matt!

  • hi matt,

what strings do you favour on your banjo ukes?

  • what key were they tuned in ?

  • Love the way you integrated the last bit.

My picks in the last song.. 1/3/4/2.

  • Thank you Matthew. You are really wonderful. Thanks again.

  • Matthew - great and inspiring playing! I have a question about the UB-1. Does it have a tone ring sitting on top of the pot under the vellum? I ask because I've got a chance to pick one up, but the pot appears to have a sharp angle under the vellum, and on all others I've seen, including yours, the vellum looks to be sitting on a curved edge, not a sharp one. I'm wondering if there should be a tone ring under there, because if so, it appears to be missing~!

    Thanks!

  • @MrJnobianchi - Hey there! The UB-1 does not have a tone ring. The only Gibson ukelele banjo I have seen with a tone ring is a UB-4 and UB-5. On the UB-1 there is a radiused bevelled edge on the pot. Hope this helps.

  • @m134mr Yes - thank you, that's a huge help, indeed. It's always hard to buy online without playing an instrument, but It looks like this one is intact and in fine shape.

I agree with your assessment of these Baby Gibsons; I like the sound of all my ukes, but the UB1 is pretty distinctive and appealing.

  • what tuning are you in can you list the names of the strings please and thank you

  • I just bought an old vintage banjolele. Im trying to get it to sound right. I'm experimenting with different bridges. What type of strings do you use? Nylon ukulele strings? The banjolele actually came with one old gut string. I never experienced one of those before. It was great.

  • They definately all have character. But the ub1 'IS' a character.

  • I like the 3rd and 4th ones best (when playing stars and stripes)

    great video!

  • Hi Matt. I'm not even new to the uke, but My dad and his dad and his dad played, so I would like to carry on the tradition. As a compleate begginer, could you, or anybody else here reccomened a specific instrument to me, and a course of instruction. How much should I spend on my first uke. Is it wise to start with a cheaper ukelele or should I get the best I can afford?

Thanks again, I will be watching for tutorials.

  • Great demo. The Gibson wins it for me. I like the subtlety of it. Thanks. 5 stars.

  • Thanks For this Matt, it's always useful to hear different uke sounds, and your playing is very accomplished. Cheers.

  • Nice editing at the end! I like the tone of the Ludwig the best. :)

  • Hi Matt, Would it be possible to show some of the simple chords, for us beginers, I have trouble in getting Bb my fingers dont seem to be long enough.

    Regards

    Griff

  • This is great Matt!

I was just wondering: could you possibly do a video to show us how to play the solo from "I Told My Baby With the Ukulele"? I'd love to learn that bit properly!

  • All lovely uke's there Matt! thanks for this video.

Also, a nice piano behind you there :) I would love to hear you play that =)

  • What's happened to the video of you playing "Leaning on a Lampost"?

  • Sorry scratch that - I've found it again!

  • has anyone ever told you how much you look like gerard depardieu? very good video, thanks a lot!

  • brilliant.... i have the ukes but cannot play like that (except the Wendall Hall)

  • Good playing skill!

  • a great pleasure to meet you and your banjo-ukes..

sweet style...george and even beryl formby would approve...(I've a cartwright deluxe and a dallas b me-self)..

    love your playing sir...

  • I have a John Grey 5 string, sounds pretty good. never tried a banjo uke. good job

  • Matt, Fantastic! What tuning do you use?

    Thanks (again)

  • All your videos are excellent. How much do your banjo uke's weigh? I want to buy a banjo uke but I've been told some are too heavy (Gold Tones, Ashburys etc)

  • great stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dude i woulda loved this vid if you hadnt have used the william shattner voice to speak in ...lol

  • Great stuff! Thanks for doing this for us. I wish you'd give a demo on how do get that Georg Formby rhythm and technique.

  • Yes, Matt I have been trying to catch on to the split stroke and I am having trouble. Please do a lesson for us! I would very much appreciate it.

  • matt can you show us how you do the split stroke.

  • That was great! I'd be interested in seeing people do more of this sort of thing with their collections.
