Red foxes are lagal in texas. I have one and when i brought her to the vet he sead every thing is O,K, in texas to have a red of sliver fox. About the onely thing you can not have is a pure bred wolf. But i also have one of thoes. I just say its a mix.

sadly the only fox i hear we can get in TX is the Fennec fox but im not sure of that =/ they're still cute tho :D im calling soon to check tho and see if that's the only fox we can have (and we have to have a permit to own one*)

If Breeding Foxes: Just don't sell them to people(except extremely experienced ones and have proof of that)! They can turn out to be bad owners unless they are experienced AND for the first foxes, rescue them, AND get LOTS of experience before buying them, PLEASE!!! Also, DO NOT over populate like dogs and cats! Please and Thank You! ^.^

No where even close to being extinct, kiddo. But, don't give up on the dream of breeding. There's good money to be made there and it's probably enjoyable work at times.

Tod is a red fox (Vulpes vulpes), which is the most abundant wild canid in the Northern Hemisphere. Despite intense hatred in some parts of its range and unrelenting persecution, they are widespread and successful.

If you want to work with a wild North American canid that's in trouble, why not the island fox (Urocyon littoralis) or the red wolf (Canis lupus rufus). To keep even one of these, let alone participate in a breeding program, you'd need a zoo permit.
