I want to do an underwater film. Story, an expeditio mainly on the ocean floor. History is rediscovered not to be as we thought. Instead, surface creatures are a harvested crop every 100,000 years. The story of the Ark was true.
Seriously? You didn't get a fucking Oscar?! What, the Academy specifies which scenes they're giving the award for? "Best Visual Effects... But Just The Water Tentacle"?
half way through this video i checked IMDB.com on a new window to see if Steve and his team had gotten an oscar for it and he didn't yet the movie won for best special effects, then im watching this and seeing the end is hilarious.
Of course I read the Cinefex article on this utterly amazing creature creation. At the time, I thought your experience surely would have killed ordinary men/women. Nothing changes after seeing this-- except that you should at least have a chunk of someone's Oscar...
Great stuff shown here. Thanks to all the production team. I could totally buy a 2-hour long documentary like this one. :)
And, Steve, Tron did received an oscar, but 20 years later... That doesn't kill the fact that it deserved an Oscar; It just showed that the Oscar jury was blind. Same goes along for you : You totally deserve your Oscar(s), period, no matter how blind the jury is. :)
Still Steve you DO deserve an Oscar for all your incredible work over the years. But like I said before - so what? Your work stands for itself, your loyal followers of your work appreciate it much more and it's just a chunk of metal and wood signifying nothing because your work is already a testament to what you do. Cheers mate.
The abyss was one of the movies that made want to start learning about creating VFX. The abyss, Toy story and Jurrasic park. Thanks for sharing these!
Again, amazing job on an amazing movie. Thanks for sharing this. As I've said before to many people: there's no school like old school, especially with the special effects in movies.
And I think that, "The Abyss" succes with creating the alien puppets was main reason producers to trust him and to hire him for creating the translucent alien forms in "Species" collaborating with his old friend Richard Edlund.
Woww...it's looks like project out of hell. James Cameron's The Abyss was one of the greatest XFX technical achievements all the time! I can't imagine what Uncle Steve feel making this project, the time limits, budget restrains and pressure that comes from Cameron and Hurd! Anyway, a great job! Steve was a hero doing the job perfectly!
No, seriously the infomation here is both fascinating and totally inspiring. It would have been almost criminal if this all this behind the scenes footage had never been seen. A tribute to your company and all the amazing artists who worked there.
It`s so great to see you really going into the process of how you did it as well. Man I wish I had worked for you back in the day.

Rick Baker is awesome and my Hero, but Steve has done some really innovative stuff that has not been properly recognized IMO.
I think Steve had developed a skin coloration changing technique for American Werewolf but it was never utilized.

The original Boss Films Predator is most definitely on the slate, predian77. Seems lots of folks are interested...

That's super news Steve, I got some interesting paperwork design copies from XFX. The DVD coverage was minimal so it deserves to be seen properly.
