It can also be transmitted through the blood stream [such as an HIV positive person's blood somehow gets into your blood]. HIV dies VERY quickly when exposed to air, so it's more likely to get it either by birth or from sex.

Some people get medicine for it, and that will prevent it from becoming AIDS, but other than that, there's no way to stop it. It's a disease that never goes away.
