Im 15 now and i love how so many teens are lovin Michael, J5 and all i mean. What really pissed me off was when Mike passed nd people wondered why i was still so obsessed with him.. like WHAT THE HELL?? Am i supposed to stop loving him or something? Dumbasses. I hope there are real fans commenting on this video and not the ones who didnt give a damn til he was gone and thought they were his number 1 fan for buying his video game. Fans old and young b4 09... I LOVE YOU, <3 thumbs up for Mikey :))
I love this whole album is wish that I could have been around when this album came out ( Im 13) its not fair even though I would like 40 something it would of been worth it!! I love you my angle!
the Genius of Michael is that he made it all look and sound so easy. in his prime and peak the Brother was unfadeable. a song like this most artists would have released like yeterday already. MJ was singing/sanging here.
Michael Jackson's voice is so sexy when he's singing emotionally, and it's shaking. It sounded like he was going to cry. Like it did in "She's Out of My Life". He really did sound heartbroken in this song. I just want to put my arms around him, hug him tightly, kiss away his tears and whisper "it's okay" to him, even if he was in the wrong. =) He was so cute!
Yeah, now that I think about it you are right. I guess I thought of this as a sequel because it was recorded after SOOML. She's Out of My Life has more of a feeling of finality to it, that it's REALLY over.
@kenyancheena It couldn't really be a sequel anyway.. Neither Michael nor Tom Bahler ( the songwriter for SOOML) had anything to do with this song. I get your point though, it's written in the same spirit.
Beautiful song..I know this is a Jackson album and they do play their part, but it certainly felt a lot less like a Jackson album compared to the others before it , its mostly Michael we hear now and I think it was that proved it was time for him to go solo
I just found out the song starts with a G-chord. When I practiced my first G on the keyboard, I heard this song in my mind right away. G is now my favourite chord to play. Have loved this song for 26 years now.
Does anyone else think of this song as being a sequel to She's Out of My Life? If you listen to the two songs back-to-back, it's like this one is set maybe a month after SOOML, and the character MJ is playing is feeling the reality hit home that his relationship with the girl REALLY is over. But he's still holding onto one last glimmer of hope between all the regret and sadness.
"I Can't Hide All The Pain Deep Inside...Is This Love?" YES IT IS MIKE!!!!!! And I still dont understand how someone who never experienced true love as a child or young adult could deliver such powerful, meaningful vocal performances...its just amazing how God gave him such a wonderful gift :) RIP Mike..There will be no one like you..EVER
@Jackson5diva1984 I may be wrong but Michael was much loved by Katherine, Diana, and Elizabeth Taylor. Women have always been Michael's biggest source of strength and inspiration
@tojew you are right, but at the time this song was written, he had never been in love with a woman.. no matter how much people thought he had a crush on Diana Ross or Taytum Oneil....but even as a child, he just was able to pour out his feelings about love, with no experience....a true gift he had
i like the songs where he just pours his heart out. honestly i prefer the mellow chill mike over the king of pop mike. dont get me wrong he was great during the thriller and beyond eras but the soulful mike is the one that really conveys the true emotion of the lyrics. what aamazes me about mike is that even when he was in the hospital with head burns he took time out to visit the kids in the same hospital he was in. that really says alot
@mjjcng8958 His brothers really helped to bring that "mellow chill" out of him. Honestly, even with "Thriller" and its rightful clout and the hits of his later years, "Triumph" is to me perhaps the strongest showing of his. They simply had that synch as brothers, and as they grew to be "The Jacksons," they blossomed as solo artists (Jermaine, in particular).
I agree totally, 02Stratus. For me, the period from Destiny through OTW and then Triumph is the greatest of MJ's career. You can make an absolutely killer mix CD of songs from these three albums, and because they have a similar sound it flows so brilliantly.
I remember my sophomore year in high school. I was new to the school and everything. We had a talent show that was a really big thing in the high school community. I chose to sing this song. In rehearsals I was so nervous and hesitant. I knew I could sing this song and it was special to me. But I could never get over my stomach worms and shakes. I wound up not singing that song and sung Bad Mamma Jamma by Carl Calton instead. The emotion he sings on this song is so strong. Never be another.
This Is A Beautiful Song. Michael Was The Star, Without A Doubt, But The Rest Of The Brothers Were No Slouches. Just Listen To The Harmonizing Near The End Of This Song. AWESOME!
@kirkindog I'm glad you said that! Sometimes it seems as if the brothers get NO LOVE, and its really the "old school" fans who grew up with the J5 from the very beginning who understand that they are a legacy in their own right. BTW, that's my favorite part too. Thanks!!
God, everytime I hear this song, my heart just floods with sadness. This song is heartwrenchingly beautiful. I love it more than words can describe. It just makes me miss him so much. I think about his life changing smile and his angel-like voice and I just feel like I need to cry. I love you, Michael Jackson. I always will. I'm so glad no one can ever hurt you again, my angel. I love you so much.

Growing michael has been that friend i could count on. i think for a lot of people that is what they felt for him. even though i never met him through his songs
@zp00000000 I know what you mean, so many fans refer to him as jus Mike or something as if there close friends lol. I think the song 'that's what you get (for being polite)' is about him secretly.
does any1 else find it amazing that even after nearly 30 years this song still has the power to make you cry? Even on songs he didnt write, he still manages to put so much emotion into it.
@mjjfan69 When I sing along with it, it gets me every time. I remember I was in Germany when my daddy came with this album in 1980, I was 7. I love these cats like big brothers. I literally grew up listening to and watching them. I still plan on meeting them someday.
I feel you on that. I heard this only a few time back in the fall of '80 and fell in love with it. The melody haunted me all these years and popped into my head about a month after Michael's passing. I knew I had to find it, even though I wasn't sure the name of the song. I remembered the refrain, "Time waits for no one" & thought that might be the actual name of the song. Lo' & behold, yes, listened & started to cry bittersweet tears of joy. Still do everytime I hear it. Simply beautiful.
@maxtechjam yes they do...it's just these dumb ass overzealous fans who DON'T KNOW the Jacksons history that think that MJ did all the work...they need to read MJ's book to understand the team work between him & his brothers from the the time they STARTED
@UrlsGrrl54 PREACH !!!!!! I say that all the time. It's like the people who became Chicago Bulls fans AFTER Michael Jordan was on the team. Bandwagon people SUCK !!!
Even if Michael didn' wrote all the songs he sang it was his interpretation who gave life to the musics and turned then more beautiful! He sing with soul, put all his emotions into the songs, thats one of the reasons he's so great!
@crisfsabr that's verry true but another thing, when michael went solo he was always singing the backgroundchoir himself. that's how you can trace a real and a fake song from michael. it's a tip for the new album. randy his mom and the children where against the bringing out from the album for this reason. there are some songs on the album which are made by mike, but also songs which he never could release himself,so listen first before buying
I used to love this song as a kid...I used to have this song and heartbreak hotel on a cassette tape and I played it over and over and over...I can honestly say that I have loved Michael Jackson my whole life...Ever since I could comprehend what music was it has always been about MJ I'm so glad I can listen to this song on you tube because my father collects records and he had all the Michael Jackson/Jackson five records but he sould them like the mothe before he died...I was very upset...Thanks
My mother's got a couple of Michael Jackson albums and she used to play them all the time, so I know almost all of his songs. It wasn't until he died that I realised that I'm actually quite a big fan. Being born in '91, I found out that I have missed out on a lot of great stuff, not just by Michael, but also by his brothers. I've been doing a lot of catching up lately and I have to say that this is one of my absolute favorites. Love it!
Michael writes a LOT about being sad and alone. I'm coming to realize a lot of the Destiny album is about his loneliness. It even extends into this song, although I think it's the only one like that on Triumph. I love the somber melody of this song. It's too short though. :(
oh i wasnt saying that mj wrote this, he said in moonwalker that jackie and randy wrote it but it fit his personality alot, i was just saying that this song was very catchy
I used to listen to this when I felt a bit down and emotional as a teenager in the early 80's. It still has a haunting melody - great production as always, the key. What a corker of a tune.
He was too fragile for this world. Reminds me of that children's book, "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats where the little boy, Peter, plays in the snow for the first time and loves it so much he tries to prolong his joy by putting a snowball in his pocket to enjoy later.
He awakes the next morning to an empty, wet pocket.
I remember that story! I LOVED Ezra Jack Keats when I was young. Reading Rainbow and LeVar Burton introduced me to his books. Definitely a fitting story. Wow. This entire album is GOLDEN, it gets permanent rotation on the iPod.
Happy Birthday Michael Jackson... I miss You... Thank You for wonderful moments in my life... Thank You for Your music... Thank You for being with us... I hope that You now to be as fine as silk... I always will be remember You... I love You...
I just really miss you! You were such a gift...Though we've never met, I feel like I have lost a dear friend or family member...My heart aches everytime I hear your voice....But I can't stop listening to your music...You are forever apart of all of us..Thank you for being an inspiration...You are an inspiration. You make me want to be a better person and do great things...You will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything. I love you....Atrienne
Ironically, this song wasn't written by MJ, but by Jackie and Randy and yet they managed to capture a lot of what MJ very much was possibly feeling at this time perfectly. It's always amazing how some of MJ's most incredible & emotional performances were on songs he didn't write himself like "Man In The Mirror."
It has a lot to do with him being emotional and honest about his emotions, and believing what he sings. (He's the only artists I have seen cry openly many times.) That's why when he sings Man in the Mirror, you believe it.
Many people who were in the studio when he recorded have said that he would be the same in studio as he was on stage. He felt it. He once said he doesn't sing it if he doesn't mean it. I believe him.
right on elide. on the 'off the wall' album, you hear him well up on 'she's out of my life'. this kind of raw emotionality would probably be ridiculed in a modern performer and that is one of many reasons we won't ever see anyone like MJ again.
i have no problem admitting that after years of being a casual fan of the Jacksons and of MJ that I have thoroughly enjoyed rediscovering how GOOD their catalogue is. I just wish it didn't take a death to make it so...
This album often goes unnoticed. This is the album that showcased the true musical abilities of all The Jacksons. Such a wonderful album! One of my all-time favorites is from this album!
Michael, why did you go? Music will never sound that great again! You were truly god-gifted and people took advantaged of you.
I can understand why God took you away. Cause you were sooooo special and some people just dont see that!! Only your family, friends and your true FANS know that you have been through. We hope you get the childhood you've never known in your next life. We love you, Mike :'(
Proof the Jacksons could contend with any of the top named artist of the day -- EWF, Commodores, P Funk, Teddy P, Stevie Wonder. Randy and Jackie put the smash down on this, even better than She's out of my life
I remember when this was released in 1980; I was 20. Didn't buy the album and only heard this a few times, but the melody touched me to the core and amazingly, has stayed with me for nearly 30 years. Words cannot describe how much I love this song! Like many, I'm reflecting on MJ's music and wanting to remember. I really wasn't sure of the name of this song but on a lark, typed "Time Waits for No One" and was blessed with finding it; tears of bittersweet joy started to flood. I miss him so.
Im 15 now and i love how so many teens are lovin Michael, J5 and all i mean. What really pissed me off was when Mike passed nd people wondered why i was still so obsessed with him.. like WHAT THE HELL?? Am i supposed to stop loving him or something? Dumbasses. @maxtechjam yes they do...it's just these dumb ass overzealous fans who DON'T KNOW the Jacksons history that think that MJ did all the work...they need to read MJ's book to understand the team work between him & his brothers from the the time they STARTED
lawplanet12 4 months ago 2
@lawplanet12 Those are the post-Thriller, bandwagon Mike fans. We that grew up in the J5 era know better.
UrlsGrrl54 2 months ago 3
@UrlsGrrl54 J5 and Jacksons era. Triumph is my favourite Jackson album, and Off the Wall, Thriller and Invincible my favourite solo work.
deebastard77 2 months ago
@UrlsGrrl54 PREACH !!!!!! I say that all the time. It's like the people who became Chicago Bulls fans AFTER Michael Jordan was on the team. Bandwagon people SUCK !!!

Even if Michael didn' wrote all the songs he sang it was his interpretation who gave life to the musics and turned then more beautiful! He sing with soul, put all his emotions into the songs, thats one of the reasons he's so great!
crisfsabr 2 years ago 75
That's exactly one of the reasons why he's so great, Michael was a 'truthful' singer.
There are so few of those type of singers today.
johnneails 2 years ago 11
He can sing an ordinary song into a magic.
wiselittlegirl 2 years ago 3

actually, this song was written by Jackie & Randy!

a lot of the invincible album is too speechless, dont walk away, you are my life, break of dawn, heaven can wait ect.

This song wasn't even written by Michael. Jackie and Randy wrote it so your comment is a bit off. No offence :)

oh i wasnt saying that mj wrote this, he said in moonwalker that jackie and randy wrote it but it fit his personality alot, i was just saying that this song was very catchy

Beautiful drumming by Ollie Brown as the song, with stunning harmonious singing by the brothers, reaches it's climax.

We all have empty, wet pockets today.
Happy Birthday, Michael.

I remember that story! I LOVED Ezra Jack Keats when I was young. Reading Rainbow and LeVar Burton introduced me to his books. Definitely a fitting story. Wow. This entire album is GOLDEN, it gets permanent rotation on the iPod.

RocStarr913 2 years ago 4
It has a lot to do with him being emotional and honest about his emotions, and believing what he sings. (He's the only artists I have seen cry openly many times.) That's why when he sings Man in the Mirror, you believe it.
Many people who were in the studio when he recorded have said that he would be the same in studio as he was on stage. He felt it. He once said he doesn't sing it if he doesn't mean it. I believe him.
:)
elidetreyes 2 years ago 7
right on elide. on the 'off the wall' album, you hear him well up on 'she's out of my life'. this kind of raw emotionality would probably be ridiculed in a modern performer and that is one of many reasons we won't ever see anyone like MJ again.
i have no problem admitting that after years of being a casual fan of the Jacksons and of MJ that I have thoroughly enjoyed rediscovering how GOOD their catalogue is.

We love you, Mike :'(
RIP from Australia
