  • This is not a terrible version, but it's a downgrade from the PC Engine version. There was no good reason to change the music, especially since the original soundtrack was great, and this soundtrack is full of lame forgettable tracks that all sound the same. I don't like some of the new sound effects either, they are kind of annoying.

People who want to play this game today should stick to the PC Engine version and stay away from the Amiga version.

  • if you fall down instead of going over that bridge and get the extra life, you get a different path with two water level segments before you go to the ice level.. in case somebody doesn't know.

  • It seems really boring, if this game was one of the best for amiga I think I wouldn't like that computer

  • @MarkFerry1976 No, it isn't the best by far but it is still a fun game for some, the Amiga has some amazing games that are on par with the megadrive and super nintendo which are 4-6 years released later, some of my favorites are: Turrican 1 & 2, Stardust, Zool, lemmings and lion heart ;)

  • Get the big meat, LEEEEEETTT'SSSS RRRRAAAAAGGGGGEEEEEE!!!!!

  • SEIZURSAURUS

  • WELL DESPITE SOME PEOPLE SAID IF YOU PLAY IN REAL AMIGA WITH A PAIR OF 200WATT STEREO SPEAKERS AND A 2 BUTTON JOYPAD OR 2BUTTON JOYSTICK YOU WILL DISCOVER THAT SOUND IS MUCH SUPERIOR BECAUSE PAULA IS SUPERIOR AND THE CONVERSION GRAPHICS OF THIS GAME IS SURPRISINGLY BETTER THAN NES AND PCENGINE (8BIT).AMIGA HAS THE GUTS.BUT WHEN IN DOUBLE DRAGON TECHNOSJAPAN GIVE THE CONVERSION TO MELBOURNEHOUSE THEN YOU UNDERSTAND SIMPLY THAT NOTHING WILL BE RIGHT.THIS WAS HAPPEN TO MANY AMIGA GAMES UNFORTUNETLY

  • @petsasjim1 Paula isn't superior in *every* way. This Amiga port is pretty good in that you have sound FX and music. But just because this port is using more 'realistic' instrument sounds, doesn't make it 'superior'. In fact, the original sound track had a tremendous amount of charm and character in it. This alternate sound track for this port is subdued and changes the whole feel of the game. Makes it feel like Chuck Rock or such, which is just wrong.

  • @malducci THANKS FOR THE ADVICE.BUT I PREFER CAPS LOCK.

YOU'RE NOT THE FIRST TO TELL ME THAT THOUGH.

I INSIST THAT PAULA IS THE 8BIT SUPERIOR SOUND CHIP EVER.

ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE MY OPINION YOU HAVE YOURS.THATS LIFE.SNES HAS BETTER SOUND BUT IS 16BIT SOUND SPC 700 IS 8BIT BUT THE CHIP IS TOGETHER WITH A DSP SOUND 16 BIT.AMIGA HAS 8BIT SOUND CHIP.8 BIT SOUNDBLASTER (THE FIRST MODEL)

HAS LOW 23KHZ SAMPLED SOUND AND THE WORST OF ALL IS THAT THE SOUND IS MONOAURAL.BEST 8BIT SOUND OF THE WORLD AMIGA

  • @petsasjim1 "THANKS FOR THE ADVICE.BUT I PREFER CAPS LOCK. YOU'RE NOT THE FIRST TO TELL ME THAT THOUGH." Well, then you come off as ignorant and how is anyone going to take you seriously? Only trolls post in all caps (and people joking around), if you're neither - then I highly recommend not continuing with that practice. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you're neither a troll or messing around.

  • @petsasjim1 My opinion comes from working directly with these chips, writing my own music engines, synth engines, etc. With directly working with and programming such audio chips of that era. I know the weakest of Paula and a lot of other chips from that era. Depending on the point of view, Paula has very few limitations or quite a bit. It can't vary timbre like real synths - it's only samples. It's often looked down upon specifically for this aspect. The # of channels is also pretty limiting.

  • I played through most of this port of PC-Genjin (Bonk). The major differences are in the gameplay mechanics. The spin attack, while looking authentic to the original - does not function the same. It floats like normal, but the low hit rate makes it useless for an attack. That's a big difference from the original. Other things are mostly graphical related. Colors have been reduced overall and then copper 'colors' added. But the palette has been tweaked a bit, which is nice (softer looking).

  • @malducci

1)YOU SAID YOUR OPINION BUT YOU CANT FORCE ME NOT TO USE CAPSLOCK.

IF YOU WANT TO COMMENT JUST COMMENT BUT NOT FOR THE WAY I WRITE.END.

2)I BELIEVE THAT ANYONE COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT HE SEES AND WHAT HE HEARS FROM AMIGA EVEN FROM A

    SIMPLE YOUTUBE COMPARE TEST.

3)CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOU FOR WORKING WITH THESE CHIPS BUT:

I HAVE PLAYED ALL GAMES ON PC ENGINE AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING EXTREMELY SPECIAL AND I HAD 10000 AMIGA

DISKETTES GAMES AND DEMOS FROM THE PAST WHICH I HAD (CONTINUES)

  • @malducci PLAYED THEM ALL.PC ENGINE ALSO RELEASE IN 1989

AND AMIGA 1000 WITH PAULA RELEASED IN 1985 EVEN SNES CHIP IS SIMILAR TO AMIGA BUT IS 16 BIT(DSP).STILL THE

PAULA IS THE BEST.BEST 8BIT SOUND EVEN SOUNDBLASTER 8 BIT IS WORSE.ONLY SOUNDBLASTER 16BIT IS BETTER AND 16BIT

SPU 700 TOGETHER WITH DSP(THIS PART IS THE 16BIT).CONCLUSION:THE SOUND AUDIO CHIP IS 16 BIT BECAUSE SPU

700 COULD NOT OPERATE WITHOUT DSP.BUT LOOK,EVEN SAMPLED OR NOT SAMPLED EVEN PSG OR NOT PSG EVEN (CONTINUES)

  • @petsasjim1 "PLAYED THEM ALL.PC ENGINE ALSO RELEASE IN 1989"

The PC-Engine was released 1987. The CD addon was developed at the same time, the reason for not needing an over the top sound chip. The CD addon with superior red book audio came out in 1988 for it. We're talking about the chips. Not what the cpu can do. You can do more channels on the PC-E, etc too. But that's not the chip itself. 4 channels for Paula chip. Check out: /watch?v=jdWYOHPV6Uw if you want to hear PCE cpu audio stuff

  • @malducci YOU GET MY COMMENT IN THE VIDEO WHICH YOU GAVE ME.FROM HEAR I SAID I FINISHED.

  • @malducci 4 (AMIGA) OR 6 (PCE) OR 8 CHANNELS (AMIGA OCTAMED OR OCTALYSER OR OTHER),THE THINGS I HAVE HEARD IN

AMIGA IN GAME AND DEMO SCENE ITS LIKE PARADISE BUT IN PC ENGINE IS JUST GOOD I SEE WHAT I SEE I HEAR WHAT I HEAR,8BIT CHIP PAULA IS THE BEST EVER IN THE WORLD 8BIT SOUND CHIP.ALSO AN OTHER IMPORTANT THING THAT IS PC

ENGINE HAS LOWER KHZ THAN AMIGA SOUND GENERAL FOR ALL ITS SOUNDS.

BESIDES CARTRIDGE IS A EXPENSIVE MEDIA AND ALL CONSOLES CANT AFFORD SPACE FOR A PERFECT (CONTINUES)

  • @malducci SAMPLED SOUND (FOR THOSE YEARS).

BUT ESPECIALLY FOR ME THE WHOLE BCKID GAME IS BETTER SOUND AND BETTER GRAPHICS.IT CANT CHANGE.I AM 44 NOW YOU KNOW SEE AND I HAD THEM ALL MACHINES OR I SEE THEM ALL.MILLIONS OF GAMES I HAD EVER SEE IS MY HOBBY NOW.I HAVE NOTHING OTHER TO SAY ABOUT IT.PLEASE NOT WRITE ANYTHING ELSE.I AM NOT CHANGING MY WORDS I SAY.

  • @malducci @malducci ONLY I CHANGE 1 ERROR NOT SPU 700 BUT SPC 700 SOUND CHIP SNES

    (IN A HURRY) ENDS HERE

  • the one for TG-16 is different this and the arcade version.. did they make a different version for every system?

  • here's a cheat code for unlimited lives: Go to options and press up up down down left right left right and start the game

  • @weirdproq thats right! B.C. Kid Is Another Name For Bonk's Adventure on the amiga and arcade japanese kaneko version of bonk's adventure

  • One of the more decent console to Amiga ports I've seen.

  • So... somehow Factor five got contacted by hudson.... to port a mascot game from a console that haven't been released in europe to a computer that isn't poplar in japan..... and this is a Amiga game that uses two buttons... AMAZING

  • Bonk?

  • @Earther001 yep. B.C. Kid Is The Arcade And Amiga Name For Bonk's Adventure. I love this game

  • @AlienX99999 B.C. Kid is the European branding of the PC-Genjin series. Bonk is the North American branding. PC-Genjin is the original name and it's a play on words for PC-Engine, which it was original made for. But since then, there's been FC-Genjin for the Famicom, GB-Genjin for the Gameboy, and Chou Genjin for the Super Famicom.

  • comparing to the original game this is pretty bad. the original felt much better. music and graphics are pretty bad. i mean, this is amiga! i rather play the NES or turbografx version. b.c kid is disappointing.

  • this is more of a quickrun than a longplay. :/

  • The load times seem a bit annoying for such a simple game, not to mention the music is kinda...same-y... I'd stick with Turbografx-16.

  • Mario has crossbred with Chuck Rock 2?

  • One thing: they should have credited the original creators in the title screen, since some graphics and sounds were reused for the Amiga version.

  • This reminds me of Super Mario and Wonder boy combined.

  • Sure get a lot of bad comments on here. I thought this game was fun playing it in my teens.

  • Noticing the graphics glitches.. I had this cracked copy too ;)

  • Comment removed

  • Amiga rulez!

  • You played it very bad, too much fast in my opinion.

However this was one of the best game for Amiga 600! Imaginative and funny!!

    How much remebers...

    W Amiga 600!!!! ;-)

  • R.I.P. Factor 5

  • Pretty much a 1/1 conversion of the original PC engine game ( Bonks adventure ).

  • >>>Chris Hülsbeck music makes it good.

The music is by Rudolf Stember...

  • It's inferior to the original music of the PC Engine version. Uninspired and lacking character.

  • Can you emulate this game?

  • Nostalgia alert! This is by far the game that defined me as a kid! It wasn't mario or sonic I was playing, it was BC Kid. Dig the tunes in it!

  • 17:17 WTF?

  • my favorite Bonk/BC kid game would be Super Bonk/Super BC kid.

  • Used to love this game, some good memories.

  • I only have a demo version of BC Kid on my Amiga. I have to get the whole game somewhere, this video makes me wanna play it.

  • The last boss on the PCE version is much larger than the Amiga one. That's strange.

  • It's because the resolution is 320x256 in the Amiga version and 256x240 on th PCE.. The game was designed for 256x240 and therefore everything is 25% wider on the PCE (look how thin bonk is on the Amiga).

  • Actually - that sprite of the last boss is from the 2nd Bonk game, not the first. That's another reason why he looks smaller. Also, what's the dot clock frequency for the Amiga's 320 pixel video mode? 7.159mhz DOT clock?

  • Okey, and the main sprite is also from the 2nd Bonk, right ?

    Amiga OCS/ECS 320 pixel mode:

7.15909 MHz NTSC (Exactly the same as PCe dot clock mode 1)

    7.09379 MHz PAL

There are very few PCe games using mode 1 however. Three games springs to my mind, R-Type, Legend of hero tonma, Ghost manor.

I don´t recall seeing more than one game using mode 2, Sherlock Holmes.

  • There are also Side-Arms, Ninja Spirit, Mr. Heli, and some japanese game with a blue donkey in the title screen.

  • How come the amiga and Pce/tg16 version have diferent names?

  • @41:20

    Missingno??

  • i'm sure there was a level on b.c kid where it is raining and the music is sad but brilliant? any ideas? i watched this up until end of level 2.

  • i feel like a little child now^^

  • great game=)

  • Other than the slightly better graphics, the original Turbo Grafx-16/PC Engine version is better.

  • Quanti ricordi!l'ho finito tutto questo gioco...

  • si decisamente molti ricordi io lo giocavo sull'amiga 600 tu su quale piattaforma?ciao

  • anche io...ciao :-)

  • good job turbo had a waaaaaaaay better soundtrack though lol

  • Another "greatest Amiga platformer".

  • Oh for christ'd sake thats just the TurboGrafix 16's Bonk's Adventure!

  • Except this one looks better than "Bonk" on the other systems.

  • Cool Game

  • Music is a far cry far the original TG/PC Engine version. Gameplay is different too. Doesn't allow endless juggling of enemies to rack up high scores and extra lives.

  • The Wii needs to have downloadable games for Amiga

  • Chris Hülsbeck music makes it good. The constant stereo effect drives you nuts. Sadly you can not enjoy it on Youtube for the .mdat files are out there. Funny simple graphics and solid controls. But gameplay was almost nonexistent. There have been better Amiga games of the same genre and theme.

  • that kid sure knows how to use his head.

  • I loved that game.

  • I didn't know there was a Bonk game for the Amiga!

  • This isn't Bonk. It's B.C. Kid. Bonk is just the crappy port to other systems.

  • "This isn't Bonk. It's B.C. Kid. Bonk is just the crappy port to other systems."

It's PC Genjin (or incorrectly referred to as PC Kid). Why the Euro version is called BC Kid is beyond me. Funny thing about this 'port' is that it's using the PC Gejin 2 main sprite and 'flip' engine. It's missing the really cool and fast flip/rotation of the first one, which allowed you float around. The music instruments are higher quality, but the music is better on the original PC-Engine version.

  • very press,very bad

  • Very funny game!

  • haha i love the way he climbs walls. Great run.
