  • In Romeo and Juliet the guy says do you bite your thumb at me sir? and thats the same thing as giving someone the finger lol thought that was pretty cool

  • @SnowBunny20121

    Yeah!

When I read Romeo and Juliet in 9th grade, I couldn't stop laughing because I can't believe that. So in school we all went around saying, "I bite my finger at you sir." XD

  • @SnowBunny20121 its like you get soo pissed and you bite your thumb at someone

  • @SnowBunny20121 biting your thumb at someone because your a mad Shakespearian bastard :)

  • Aparently thr whole archer/finger insult thing is a myth. It was on QI look it up.

    I was sooo shocked XD

  • QI isnt always fact you do realize

  • This MP3 is useless without the vid man!

  • i like how everyone put so much thought into this

  • actually lol the "finger" was "invented" like .. 1,000 years ago in these wars. Can't remember which, but these people would cut off the middle finger of archers so that they couldn't use their bow and arrow. (yes, you DO in fact need a middle finger for that) So when the war was ending, whenever archers would see the enemies, they'd show their middle finger as if to say "Haha, I can shoot you" ..... Yes it's true. Ask anyone at any archery school or shop.

  • it was in england, the english archer were feared by many and they didnt just cutted the middle finger, the cutted the 2 fingers needed to shoot a bow. and they would show the 2 fingers with the palm reversed (much like when we give the middle finger)

  • Yea that's it. But you should work on your spelling ;D

  • wrong actually it was the WELSH archers

  • haha you mean "cut" and "they cut" lol but I'm not meaning to be mean or anything, cuz you could probably cut my fingers off lolz

  • The French did that to the English.

  • Celts

  • @Wint3rHeart Yeah, that was during the war between the British and the French. The British called shooting their longbows "Plucking the Yew" since the bows were made of yew wood. So when the French crossbowmen would come into view the Archers would say "I can still pluck yew" and over time became "Fucc You"

  • @Wint3rHeart absoultly true

  • @Wint3rHeart and thats why i only flip off basketball players and archers!

  • @Wint3rHeart

    It was in France lol

  • @Wint3rHeart It was the British during the Hundred Years War. That was the first war that implemented the British longbow. The French were so scared of this new weapon that whenever they captured a British soldier they'd cut off his finger so he couldn't "pluck the Yew" with his longbow. So the British would show them their middle finger to taunt them. And now I need to go have some rough sex to counteract the extreme nerdiness of this post.

  • @epilepticearl With jill huh?

  • @epilepticearl I read "longbow" and then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • @TheMusicKing713 i read your comment then i took an arrow in the knee...

  • @Wint3rHeart the french war i think

  • @Wint3rHeart accually it was the index finger and middle thats what i got told

  • @Wint3rHeart in england it was the same story, but with the middle AND index fingers. so showing the back of your hand and those two fingers is swearing in britain.

  • @Wint3rHeart wow i just posted that comment on another vid (not your comment) then i came here and read it and btw that is not a fact yet :(

  • @Wint3rHeart actually this isnt entirely correct. Yes if the archers were to be kept as slaves then yes only the middle finger was cut off incase they did mangage to escape. If they didnt need the prisoners then they would simply kill them, the extra and uneeded mouths to feed would only waste valuable resources

  • @Wint3rHeart as if to say "pluck you" yeps, i read the history of the finger. it was interesting :D

  • @Wint3rHeart It was the hundred years war, the french cut off the middle fingers of captured english longbowmen. And yes, your right, the middle finger was given to french soldiers before a battle by the english archers as an act of defiance.

  • @Wint3rHeart nice

  • @Wint3rHeart Actually, "Giving someone "the finger" is one of the basest violations in modern culture, but its origins date back over 2500 years. The first written record of the insult occurred in ancient Greece, where the playwright Aristophanes (the Adam Sandler of his day) made a crude joke mixing up the middle finger and the penis. Even back then, the bird was considered an aggressive, phallic put-down." this is the truth.

  • @Wint3rHeart It was the war between England and France, it is also why in England and France it is extremly rude to show you middle finger (the finger) and youre pointing finger, since it kind of means "Fuck you i won and i stil have my fingers, HAH." :)

  • @Wint3rHeart It was the British who were the archers who were at war with the French, and it was the French who would cut of the middle fingers of the British,

  • @Wint3rHeart wow

  • @Wint3rHeart wasnt it in the hundred years war?

  • @Wint3rHeart

    or google it...

  • @Wint3rHeart it was actually the english people who threatened with cutting the middle fingers of the frenchmen who would survive the war... when the english surrendered the frenchmen showed their middle finger... I THINK ;) but still :)

  • @Wint3rHeart I might be wrong, but I think the story your making a reference to is from England when the long-bowman was their main soldier. When they were taken prisoners at war, their enemies would cut both their middle and index fingers. So now in the UK, if you make a "V" with those fingers at someone, it basically means: "yeah, thats right, i still have my fingers, bitch" look up "V Sign" on WIkipedia. or "finger (gesture)" for the origin of giving the finger.

  • @laurentperron1 Yeah that's right, it was mainly during the Hundred Years War between England and France. At the time France generally believed that battles should be fought mainly with swords wielded by noble knights (although I believe France also had the crossbow) England however used long-bowman during battles, who were all basically peasants trained to shoot, along with their swordsman.

  • @laurentperron1 The long-bowman were positioned safely behind the battlefield and fired at the French soldiers, killing many since they had no defense against the sheer number of arrows flying at them. France believed that this wasn't an honorable way of fighting, so they promised that any long-bowman they captured they would cut their middle and index fingers off.

  • @laurentperron1 So before every battle, as a sort of insult to the French, the English long-bowman would hold up the backs their index and middle fingers, making a "V." They actually changed the L4D2 cover for the UK version because the zombie hand was doing the same gesture and I guess England found it offensive.

  • @Wint3rHeart dude, it freakin rocks tht u know tht : D

I jus learned something neeeww today

  • @Wint3rHeart Sooo... giving some guy the finger is like making a death threat?

  • @Wint3rHeart soo full of shit

  • @Wint3rHeart French and English. Count on it.

  • @Wint3rHeart it was the british to the the french xD

  • @Wint3rHeart I think it was what they did to native americans... Not sure though

  • just look at my finger and you'll know man lolz

  • actually the anglo saxons did during the 100 tears war when the french archers claimed the crossbow was so powerful they would defeat them and cut off the middle finger of every saxon when th anglos won they chased the french waving thier middle fingers in spite

  • this is actually harnful if swallowed, not retaliation.

  • in new york!

  • lmao. IN NEW YORK! If you were to be given the finger, in any state I'd say New York would actually be the state I'd expect to get it in.

  • SUCK MY BACK!

  • not Retaliation

  • just look at my finger and youll know man! lmao!!

  • he is just soo funneh!!!

  • rofl i love Dane Cook

  • LOL
