Hammer is in a class all by himself. He is a genius. My very Favorite of all time. I remember in the 80's we used to run home to catch Miami Vice on TV not wanting to miss a note of the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the keys and Jazz Rock.

I was fortunate to see Jan Hammer in concert in 1991 at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Simply amazing. He played quite a few Vice tunes. Flashback was the nicest one live.

a Great composer. search out and get his albums/cds. All of them. Right after the mahavishnu is a good place to start. His use of the canon motif makes for some electic music. "Golden Apples of the Sun" was written with jan hammer style in mind.

His skill on the keys has trick many to think there is a guitarist on certain albums but there are none! Glad to see there are those who know of this amazing talent!!

It was Jan Hammer's music more than anything else that defined Miami Vice. I grew up in the 80s and this show was a cornerstone of my youth. And having visited Miami many times I can't help but think of this music as I'm driving thru South Beach wearing my Crockett shades.
