  • Roofing sucks but it pays good.

  • here in canada, nova scotia most roofers here are using a synthetic underlay. a-1 stuff i must say highly recommend it.

  • look this vid : "THE REAL ROOFER "

    click on the first vid

    have fun

  • You people know nothing about roofing. First off its a low slope roof so paper is not code. You need to install ice and water on the entire low slope area. And if you are a expert roofer you can use a gun for the paper just need the touch. Or turn down your gun pressure. But ya ha Hatchet usually works better

  • @13Sundin1 Wrong! You can't use a gun for paper here in Florida. It has to b nailed down with button caps and exposed so the inspector can see it. Anything under a 4/12 can have paper but anything in zone 1 or a high wind zone for hurricanes requires peel and stick on the entire home. The paper has to survive 75 MPH without and roof and still keep water out to pass the inspection. So STFU, nobody cares about your requirements.

  • Wacker tacker?

  • holes in the felt are a big deal, if it wasnt, you wouldnt need felt at all........,

  • @mecca421 Not on shingle roofs...underlayment/felt on shingle roofs act only as a vapro barrier. Felt on tile roofs act as moisture barriers...

  • nail guns are for butchers they may be faster but a hammer does a better job.

I know a roofing company that still uses hammers but there fast as fuck with it and have a very good reputation for over 20 years.

  • Use slap staplers on felt (tar paper) waaaaaay faster than anything else. Also guns shoot right through felt a lot of times and doesn't hold as good. BIG waist of nails

  • slap staplers rip holes in the felt, for the do it youreselfer

  • Ripping holes in your felt doesn't matter at all unless you're planning on leaving it in felt overnight with a chance of rain. And if you're using it right you wont rip holes in the felt and you can cover a 15 square section in probably 20 minutes. WAY faster

  • r u kidding ice guard bottom 3 feet unless its in the south or far west

  • agreed

  • The guy isn't very efficient at all. I suppose there is a camera on the roof making it an odd job, but franky, "I forgot my gun?" Just use your hanmmer for one, but if he ordered a labourer to retrieve his gun because he is braindead, then it is taking 2 men to do his job. Just making more work for the labourer... useless..

  • OSB is fine, upside-downing that 5 is fine, and he knows how to shingle, so he doesn't need to run ice belt everywhere. If somebody did less talking they might actually learn something, but it's doubtful. When you are ready to see some actual work get done, you can check out my vids.

  • No ice and water shield? Particle board for deck?

  • my friend used to work without a scaffold, his helper left rip bar on the roof which my friend tripped over whilst walking backward.

he fell to the floor head first from 12ft and died.

his wife and 3 young daughters were even more upset when they lost there home due to the insurance company refusing to pay out for the accident due to no scaffolding.

be careful buddy, you cant be responsible for other peoples mistakes, but you can die from them.

  • Shit if Osha ever ran in to us they would cut my fucking legs off so I could never attempt to make them shit their pants again.

  • i did a side job a few years back on a 12/12 pitch roof with steel...didnt make a dime..everything that was profit went for scaffolding and a harness, however im here to work another job safely and pure profit

  • the way he hands the nail gun blows my mine. I would never hand or be handed a gun like that.

  • We have saftey all over the states. BUt the smaller the company the less they look at you. Mostly OSHA only watches higher profile jobs like court houses and post offices. But they tend not to look to closly at houses around here unless another company calls them. Which is what happened to us workin out of state a few years ago. They were pissed we were in their territory and called osha. We weren't even in a dangerous area but since the roof eve was over 6 ft from the ground. lol

  • the latters not even 3 feet over the eavestrough, LOL this guys gonna get a fine.

  • lol I mean Wind driven Rain! :p

  • LMAO ROPES Shoes and Hardharts? Those are for chickens. What, a bird going to poop on ur head?

Plus by the book which I have at home. Ice and water goes over the endging cuz it will seal down to it like a mofo. Plus the Edging should go over the paper on the rack edge to prevent rain driven rain. Look it up. Comes out every year.

  • Some places you need ropes and shoes or else you get fines good, but yea mostly they are a hassle.

  • Trust me, I know all about that shit. I just spent a few months at Ft.Knox working on barracks installin standing seem. We had Hard hats, ropes, steal toes, and vests on. All day , everyday from the moment u stepped on site.

  • safety first brother, i know lots of people who should have worn safety equipment and later wished they have, some are still here to talk about there experience and the others were not so lucky, you dont want to be one of the unlucky ones. as a foreman every one has to wear safety even on the ground and any one that dont is a plain and simple FOOL! it says you have no regard for your family and company.

  • Truthfully, If it ain't a big job and we bid in the extra time for rops and extra scaffolding, our company can't compete with the everyday companies. So if we wore ropes all the time we wouldnt' have a job. Plain and simple.

  • do what you gotta do. im not saying anything more than i hate seeing a brother down. you gotta make money. tell who ever to charge more then maybe you guys can have it just for show, thats really all we do.

be safe brother, every one looks up to a roofer, looking down is usually six feet under ground!

  • Oh yea I hear ya loud and clear. I've fell off a few times but only on one story buidings for diff. reasons that could be controlled. But trust me, If u don't feel safe you better grab that rope!! I was on a job last year that even with the rope, I was like screw this shit. I was like 6 stories up on a dormer trying to put on some edging from a toe hold. lol All I saw was the concrete below.

But just say no to steal toed bootz!!! They tear up the shingles to beat hell! :)

  • Ooops this one was meant to a reply for curtliff777

Now it looks just out of place :(

  • well theres somebody that agrees with me, i always install paper or ice & water under my metal, either way if the house is properley vented there shouldn't be any ice damming anyways, but if it was my house i'd wrap my ice & water down over my facial aleast an inch and trim out the facial with metal, Duh!!

  • fall protection for what? He isn't very high and the roof is walkable.

  • yeah by rights ur dripedge should b on top of ur paper.wingnut.can prove it.

  • fuck ropes!!! if u fall ur fired befor u hit the ground!!!!

  • that use to be my motto until my uncle fell in front of me 15 ft down the roof & 35 ft to the ground, he smashed every thing on the left side of his body i mean every thing & he is lucky to be roofing or talking about it to this day. we are all brothers from the same hood, one dies do to stupidity it effects us all so please be safe. I AGREE ITS A BIG PAIN IN THE ASS BUT IT SAVES LIVES!

  • havent seen one video yet where anyone was using fall protection. in ontario your looking at 3 infractions... shoes, harness and hardhat. more then likely they wouldnt have the ladder tied off either making for 4. not too many roofers make $225 x 4 = $900 a day. whoever supervisor on the job sight would get the same reguardless if he was there or not plus an additional $500 fine and a day in court.

you learn fast when you see the blue hat taking your picture.

  • You obviously dont have health and safety in States!
