In C has become to "new music" what "Hello World" is to programming languages :) A tradition that has become pure fun.
I own several recorded versions of In C - this one is great !!! Does a jazz musician play On Green Dolphin Street the same way every time? Do all jazz musicians play On Green Dolphin the same way? Sometimes a quartet, sometimes a trio, sometimes a quintet, sometimes an ensemble, sometimes solo piano? - so why not In C? Have fun with it !!! :)

Worth noting that Terry Riley himself is enthusiastic about the project, calling the remixes "some 'alternate universe' In C's that got me smiling, beaming and sometimes amazed."
I'm not sure what the negative fuss is about. Minimalism, with its patterns and pulse-based music, makes for perfect remix material. It has already happened with Reich (with his blessing). Why not In C?
Is the objection to the remixing in general? the adding of electronic parts? that an engineer might make decisions about a recording? All of these issues are much broader than this project, and really get down to personal preferences. I look forward to this project.
So cool words really escape me in trying to identify and classify Master Terry Rileys music!!!

Asking if In C needs a backbeat kinda makes this comment seem silly.
