@teegilled Actually, the one in the pink that got hit wasn't the one that was jaywalking it was the other one the cop was detaining. The cop asked her to stay back and she got up in his face. Who knows what she might have done if the cop hadn't taken a defensive stance with her? What if she grabbed his gun and shot him? All she had to do was chill and let her cousin get the jaywalking citation from the cop and it would have all been over. She overreacted and got what she deserved.

A police officer is authorized by law to detain you for the length of a normal traffic stop, but when you try to evade, which is what these girls were doing, and resist, also what you see THEM doing, he is required to MAINTAIN CONTROL of the situation, in this case, physical violence. @rich1299yt From what I've read, the reason they were going to be CITED (not arrested) for jaywalking was that the intersection is dangerous; jaywalking by students from a nearby school happens frequently; there's a pedestrian overpass right there; and of course jaywalking is still illegal. When you have kids frequently walking across the intersection in such a way as to disrupt traffic, what do you think should happen? Especially when there's a risk to the kids and the drivers?

This situation only escalated when the girl ignored his command to stop and show ID so she could be ticketed. I do frankly think the cop overreacted, but the kids acted stupidly, violently, disrespectfully, and were breaking the law. Maybe their attitudes are warranted; maybe not.
