I really wasn't expecting this form Boris. I mean I guess I was sort of expecting the whole sludge they've usually been doing, but nevertheless I still like it.
I wouldn't care less what other people say about this album, or this song, in my opinion Boris has made yet again an awesome album, and that's enough reason to listen to this. Waiting for my LP. :)
I have to say too that I have being straying from metal for a while... Into my hip hop lately. Dude told me Boris' new album is like electro pop. I tripped fucking balls. I've now listened, love it and went back to their doom releases as well.
Now I've been listening to some Reverend Bizzare, old Sabbath, Electric Wizard and the like again...
Imagine if a new listener picked up their back catalog lol.
to think that even Boris fan are ignorant as well you've let me down boris fans.. I think it's highly hypocritical that you call your selves " music" fans yet when it comes to pop music it's sell out? There are many pop artists that don't sell out and they make great music so why out a category on a music genre? It's pointless. Boris are pretty music veterans.. they can do they can do the hell whatever they want.. They're released countless solid albums. it's still boris and they will always be
Bands shouldn't have boundaries--especially Boris--since music is music. Sticking to one genre when you can do so many, it's great to branch out. Sometimes artists and bands like to dip their toes in to something else just to see if it's any fun. At least they haven't completely changed to this genre. They still have, what, two more albums this year to look forward to? I know some have already been released this year but I forget how many more they are releasing.
It's funny how people are constantly giving head to Boris because they're "omg so open-minded and free, they play all these different genres" then the second they venture outside of the confines of the sludge/drone/stoner label they've been gathering these last 10 years, they get lauded by these same people for "selling-out". Fucking morons. But hey, haters gonna hate, I guess.
I like it. It's certainly no Amplifier Worship, but it's good nonetheless.
@HammarHeart 55 likes and 2 dislikes = We like it.... I dont know any Boris fans who dont like it.... those of us who were tickled to see them play with NIN are even happier
@HammarHeart lol yea I know I was just giving you a hard time. But it amused me that you used the word so thoroughly wrong in a post about how other people were idiots.
i think its rlly cool how this band is releasing 3 albums this year. each one catering to heavy hardcore fans, one being accessible, and one being completely different
They are not selling out in any way. They are doing the same thing Ulver (along with many other avant-garde bands) did; playing many different types of music. They could have either changed their name, still have the same line-up and released just this album, or do what they are doing, which is releasing 3 great new albums while still being good ol' Boris.
Does anyone really think Boris is going to crush the airwaves and move thousands of pieces of this record? They are simply trying something new. Trying to remain energized and curiously experimental in their approach. That has always their m.o., hasn't it? Rest assured, two or three from now they may drop something that sounds like "Flood", or maybe they won't.
For pop music, this is pretty different still. So "selling out" isn't fair to say, in my opinion. I LOOOOOVE BORIS and just got this 2xLP in the mail today from Japan. That said... I REALLY don't like it. I'm more into the heavy-psych/ambient/drone work than this soul-less, dancy garbage. A couple tracks are likeable (vocals buried similar to My Bloody Valentine).
@foxdie1013@foxdie1013 I don't understand, you bought the album even though you hate it? Never mind, what I really want to know is why you think this is soul-less, dancy garbage? I listen to a LOT of electronic dance music and have listened to a LOT of Boris and I think this song has all the "soul" any other Boris song from Amplifier Worship, Heavy Rocks or Flood would have. If you don't like it all I can say is haters gonna hate.
@picturenoise No no... I pre-ordered the album 2 MONTHS ago before I read what kind of music it would be. I didn't hear it until I had it IN-HAND. So I didn't buy something knowing I wouldn't like it!
Electronic music I do like is usually older stuff (Tangerine Dream, Cluster, Ashra, etc). Personally, I like to be engulfed by music, and that happens easier with something like ambient, drone, or psychedelic music. Longer track lengths are beneficial in that regard as well.
@borowczyk76 I couldn't disagree more. Boris is hardly selling out, they are simply doing what they have always done: trying something new with every release (you should have seen this coming after Japanese Heavy Rock Hits). Besides, do you really think this album could get any real mainstream attention, outside japan?
@picturenoise Thing is, I did see it coming (thus the mention of "more and more with each new release" in my original post). The thing is there is a difference between reinventing yourself and experimenting and going from one end of the spectrum to it's polar opposite. It's alienating a lot of fans, including myself. I'm not trying to put down anyone who likes this stuff, but this is hardly the Boris I once fell in love with. How can you say this has the same "soul" as AW, HR1, Flood? Come on...
@borowczyk76 I really dislike the word "soul" when discussing music, but all I can say is that Black Original makes me want to rock out as hard as Wareruride... or that Flare has a lot of the same energy as many of the songs on Pink. Pardon? gives me the same kind of wishful feeling as part II of Flood. And I wouldn't call this the polar opposite of older older Boris. To me it all still sounds very Boris, especially some of the other songs on the album.
@picturenoise Fair enough. Like I said, I don't want to prevent anyone from enjoying this and rain on their parade, but I had to express my dissatisfaction with the direction Boris has been taking musically. Besides being upbeat, this has none of the aggressive energy of their earlier records. You can't deny that stylistically, this sounds nothing like them. They've given up their edge to appeal to an even larger audience, to me this is the very definition of selling out. Sorry.
@picturenoise You say very wise things, my friend! I love this "New Album". This is some exciting stuff and in my opinion this is the opposite of selling out! They try something different every album and that's what is keeping Boris interesting.
@picturenoise hmmm Trying something new isnt always a good thing. I mean....I wouldnt try heroin because it was something new for me. Point being, this isnt the boris that tours with Sunn0))) and Russian Circles
thanks

Not many bands are musically confident enough to do different music, and actually make it work.

Boris does whatever the fuck they want. Yeah so they made a pop record and got Avex Trax to sell it, ok. Then they made Heavy Rocks 2.

Did Boris hook up with a producer with a SUCK button ??
Did they want more money for their music to be in commercials or something ??
very sad to find all of this.
