Cameco tried very hard to hide the Fukushima incident from the public, a very similar strategy to that of oil companies which is a bit backwards as they do not have that much money. Most likely Cameco's futures earnings estimates are going to be way off as they are over optimistic about the future, the Fukushima incident released 20% of the radiation that Chernobyl released and it is likely that due to Japan’s high population density we will be hearing very sad stories for some time to come.

Why was Cameco allowed to purchase, at an undisclosed price, 550 metric tonnes of Uranium Yellowcake from Iraq, while the U.S. spent $70 million helping them load it and ship it? How important is mining uranium in a people's water if the U.S. is literally willing to PAY to dispose of it? ...and then potentially buy it from Cameco at a later date? This doesn't add up, at all. Something's fishy.

I heard the effects on the ppl were minimal if that is true the should be compensated and all medical bills paid for for these children we saw. I don't understand it all yet. I do know that as the world tries to progress one cannot know what will really happen until it does some of the time. Like in Russia the Chernoybal Nuclear reactor. It's tough to say cause canada put lots of money into nuclear way back and it failed.. public stood against it and now they say that the tech is safer so they want to rework all the equipment they already have.. We got a little add in the mail two years ago about it, it came with a fake uranium pellet that said "just this produces so much electricity.. nuclear is safe.." was sad.. cause like this shows.. the mining is not safe no mater how they use it to make energy..

Most people like nuclear. Honestly with fission instead of fusion reactors the danger is minimal now, and with over half of Ontarios power coming from this source I don't see any change in the near future other than the creation of new and bigger power plants. I don't know how much exposure stories such as this that show the negative effects of uranium mining on the people have received on the CBC but I m going to guess it has been minimal.

It is almost as if they want people to die slowly.

I never worried a lot about the reactors being dangerous, I'm young though so it was already getting labeled safer. Other then the water. I worry about all the money they want to put into it, just cause they put lots in it in the past.. When much less money will get other industries going.

I think you are right not to worry about the reactors. The mines on the other hand I honestly had not thought of untill now. I need to do some research as I am assuming there is a drill involved with the extraction wich would leave a lot of dust.

I had no idea it was that bad there. I heard about urainium bullets. There's a canadian company that makes hydrogen tech. that was even on Discovery channel "Daily Planet" on their web site they show they make hydrogen seperate from water with just a little puck of metal that reacts with the water which costs 1 cent each and lasts more then a month, No dangerous storage of hydrogen just water car.. They wouldn't say what the metal was because they were pattenting it. Why are we not even trying?
