Yep...people don't realize how essential a special diet is for these guys....Your eating habits can be the determining factor as to how long your body lasts in the league...The wrong foods can deteriorate your joints and tendons quicker than anything...Sugar, fried over processed foods, red meat, sodas... stuff like that will end you..These guys eat clean.. baked chicken, turkey, fish, steamed veggies, salads..Not to mention high quality protein drinks and supplements..

im not tryin to say that rowing isnt an intense sport with a lot of physical torment. It probobly is torture, especially scence i ran a half marathon once and threw up at the end, which probobly doenst even match up to rowing. BUT ray lewis has a bigger role than you might have not only to an NFL Team but to thousands of fans. His highest prioraty is to STAY HEALTHY. somedays he needs that day in bed or that day of film to recover and make sure hes there for the team, and the fans.
Also he sits in bed all day to make sure hes ready for sunday because unlike the PUSSY sport of ROWING. millions of people watch him every sunday. so if he takes that extra practice and isnt at the TOP of his game on sunday, thousands of people will be dissapointed. im semi pro and i train like a professional. Yea i row, its one of the toughest if not the toughest sport you can do. I do 250km a week in peak season along with weights. Boxing, Rowing, Cycling and cross country skiing are the toughest sports you can do not football. Ive done lots of sports in my life and hands down rowing is the hardest of them all. 5:30am trainings 6days a week and then 6x 5:00pm trainings a week football players cant hack that. If you have ever rowed you would understand
an all out 2k rowing race expends more energy than playing back to back basketball games. Do deep squats for 6-7min of your own body weight doing 38-40 every minute and you might have an understanding of how your legs alone feel during a 2k race. Now imagine that pain throughout your entire body, your arms, your legs, your arse, your feet are all completely full of lactic acid. You have tunnel vision everything is spinning and you have a pounding headache.
Your heart rate is in the 190bpm range for 6-7min. And the worst part isnt even during the race its the moments after it when the focus and adreniline is gone every part of your body is telling you this was a bad idea. You cant escape the pain all you can do is live through it. Your legs give way when you try to walk and your heart rate doesnt go normal for 2 hours NO SHIT. You dont know pain if you havent done a 2k erg, been severly burnt or given birth naturally

rubgy does require a lot more endurance and conditioning however football requires a lot more intelligence and awareness (of the game) because of the way the games are structured (football being stop and go, having to read plays, call audibles etc. rubgy is more of an instinct game)

You dummy. Pro athletes do this stuff all day. That is until 5-8pm. So if he is getting up at 6:30am to work out, then he is preparing above and beyond a HUGE day. You probably get up at 4am but then go work a job the rest of the day. Which means he is pushing himself all day while you only do it 2 hours or so. PLUS he works harder than you do. The point isn't the time, it is what is put into the time. Waking up at 2:30am means nothing. Working like Ray Lewis does means something.
I played football in high school (receiver) and rugby in college (winger) and the only difference is conditioning. Football is about 10-30 seconds of actual work between downs, then you get time on the bench when the offense or defense or special teams get on the field. I used to hate two minute drills because you get no time to catch your breath, but then I played rugby where each 45 minute half is a 2 minute drill and I realized that football players require way less endurance period.
im from the uk. yeh ive played rugby, (fly half) but now i play for my local american football team. and trust me, i play running back, and the hits you take playing american football hurt a hella more than they do in rugby. when that helmet hits your chin....fuck it hurts

ok to be real in terms of conditioning the #1 sport is soccer. 90 minutes with hours on end of practice in sweltering heat on a massive field. thats conditioning. 2nd i would say NBA or basketball in general. 48 minutes may seem short to the 90 soccer minutes but if you are a starter you probably play 30+ or 40+ minutes a game. considering its a 82 game season, you play back to backs, 5 games with a day in between... thats conditioning. 3-football(no explanation needed).

Well Reed is hinting at retirement as of what I heard today. Im sure Ray will talk him out of it, I'd hate to see Reed retire without a ring on his finger or not having a shot at the superbowl. IMO honest opinion I felt like last year was their only shot.

im not tryin to say that rowing isnt an intense sport with a lot of physical torment. It probobly is torture, especially scence i ran a half marathon once and threw up at the end, which probobly doenst even match up to rowing. BUT ray lewis has a bigger role than you might have not only to an NFL Team but to thousands of fans. His highest prioraty is to STAY HEALTHY. somedays he needs that day in bed or that day of film to recover and make sure hes there for the team, and the fans.

im semi pro and i train like a professional. Yea i row, its one of the toughest if not the toughest sport you can do. I do 250km a week in peak season along with weights. Boxing, Rowing, Cycling and cross country skiing are the toughest sports you can do not football. Ive done lots of sports in my life and hands down rowing is the hardest of them all. 5:30am trainings 6days a week and then 6x 5:00pm trainings a week football players cant hack that. an all out 2k rowing race expends more energy than playing back to back basketball games. Do deep squats for 6-7min of your own body weight doing 38-40 every minute and you might have an understanding of how your legs alone feel during a 2k race. Now imagine that pain throughout your entire body, your arms, your legs, your arse, your feet are all completely full of lactic acid. You have tunnel vision everything is spinning and you have a pounding headache.

Your heart rate is in the 190bpm range for 6-7min. And the worst part isnt even during the race its the moments after it when the focus and adreniline is gone every part of your body is telling you this was a bad idea. You cant escape the pain all you can do is live through it. Your legs give way when you try to walk and your heart rate doesnt go normal for 2 hours NO SHIT. You dont know pain if you havent done a 2k erg, been severly burnt or given birth naturally

rubgy does require a lot more endurance and conditioning however football requires a lot more intelligence and awareness (of the game) because of the way the games are structured (football being stop and go, having to read plays, call audibles etc. rubgy is more of an instinct game)

You dummy. Pro athletes do this stuff all day. That is until 5-8pm. So if he is getting up at 6:30am to work out, then he is preparing above and beyond a HUGE day. You probably get up at 4am but then go work a job the rest of the day. Which means he is pushing himself all day while you only do it 2 hours or so. PLUS he works harder than you do. The point isn't the time, it is what is put into the time. Waking up at 2:30am means nothing. Working like Ray Lewis does means something.

I played football in high school (receiver) and rugby in college (winger) and the only difference is conditioning. Football is about 10-30 seconds of actual work between downs, then you get time on the bench when the offense or defense or special teams get on the field. I used to hate two minute drills because you get no time to catch your breath, but then I played rugby where each 45 minute half is a 2 minute drill and I realized that football players require way less endurance period.

have you ever heard of Jonah Lomu? 6ft 5 260lbs and ran 100m in 10.6, I dont know of anyone in the nfl that is as tall, heavy and fast as him. But in general YES nfl players are faster and stronger but thats because they train for explosiveness because a play usually only lasts 5 sec at best. Rugby players need to train for aerobic and anarobic, their concern isnt so much how much they can bench or squat for 1 rep.

and to the guy that said UFC fighters are first, lets look at their training regiments. they train extra hard before fights and usually have 2-3 fights a year depending on the schedule. if they train hard 6 wks before that means they train about 4 months excessively a year. considering that athletes like football & basketball players don't have the time to strictly work out it is obviously them who are more conditioned to do what they do. 6 mos of basketball and 2 offseason mos of training...

ok to be real in terms of conditioning the #1 sport is soccer. 90 minutes with hours on end of practice in sweltering heat on a massive field. thats conditioning. 2nd i would say NBA or basketball in general. 48 minutes may seem short to the 90 soccer minutes but if you are a starter you probably play 30+ or 40+ minutes a game. considering its a 82 game season, you play back to backs, 5 games with a day in between... thats conditioning. 3-football(no explanation needed).
