@afegalese7 Christchurch is still getting aftershocks, with some very severe ones just over 2 months ago but it has slowed down a lot thank goodness. Christchurch as a city is still a bit in limbo as the Insurance Co's want insure new buildings while we still get serious aftershocks. For the record over 10,000 recorded aftershocks so far but being over 390 4.0 or bigger since September 2010 is still enough.
@202ToranaMan Oh Jesus, 10,000 recorded aftershocks? I, personally, experienced an earthquake in Lebanon in 1997. It happened only twice and I felt deep down inside my world shaking. I wonder how can man get used to this feeling after 10,000 aftershocks. God bless New Zealand.
dont want to sound insensitive, but i find earthquake rather 'cool', and i totaly mean those small one, that dont create any serious damages or injuries. Of course i hate when they take lives and damages... but where i live we only get small to moderate earthquake once in a blue... like once a year not more ..
@unitedben14 Hi, Aftershocks are expected to continue for around 2 years after the initial big shake which actually wakened several fault lines nearby. So far we have had 1x7m+, 3x6m+, 7x5m+, over 300x4m+ and over 2300 3m+ within our area since September. They are getting much less regular and we can actually go days without noticing one and then you may get 3 in a short period. The ground movement during the larger ones have been particularly violent and only 2nd to Japanese 9m in G-Forces.
@StevenShields29 english u prob cant quite pick the nz accent with the low volume lol. if u listen close she says something about the west coast and light winds
Mann, in the MASSIVE one we had recently, I was at school, we were talking about DOUBLE RAINBOWSSSS! Then it hit, and I've never ran down the stairs so flipping fast! And my friends shoulder popped out. OH WOW! I got on MSN NEWSSS! YAAY!
Wow, you must get them a lot noticing you knew it was coming before the main aftershock hit. I wouldn't even know what was happening until after the shaking stopped. My regards
LOL i love the hugee yawn then then the wanker part at the end awesome vids dude gives me a perspective on things i missed the big one while woking in oz but small ones are fun (:
this guy.. oh dear i love how he gets a fright and clings on to his laptop, then the aftershock hits. this is really LOUD for a 4.6?? i hate the eerie sound of an aftershock. great vids!!
Far out, that was loud and sharp! Like the ones we regularly get in Wgtn, except that they are normally a rumble and a sharp sideways jolt - not vertical movement.
@MsBEANNIE I do but these are all i wanted to publish. These shallow ones on the Modified Mercalli Intesity (MM) scale would have been a 6 compared to the big one which was MM9:
MM 6: Slightly damaging
Felt by all. People and animals are alarmed, and many run outside. Walking steadily is difficult. Furniture and appliances may move on smooth surfaces, and objects fall from walls and shelves. Glassware and crockery break. Slight non-structural damage to buildings may occur.
@202ToranaMan dude if you caught the big one yesterday on tape you should upload that. we felt it here in greymouth. it was pretty bad here so it must have beem horrendous there. i hope you and your family are all ok
Looked at several of your videos. Very jolty ones with vertical shaking. Were you very close to the epicentres? I think these quick jolts are the most nerve rattling!
@syounantube For the first week or so the aftershocks were very violent for the size of them but they have got alot more gentle now. The distance from me ranges from around 2-20kms or 1-12 miles but they have been very shallow with most between 2-15km deep. We had a 5.0 the other night and it was so gentle, I was standing and my feet were moving about 6 inches each way in slow swaying motion not like the vioent 5.0 4 days after the big one, nerves are alot better now.
@syounantube yes i would have to agree, the sharp ones are AWFUL and you never know if they are going to continue and get bigger. its an awful felling being jolted around
@reaperette yea they were so often but at least we are getting alot less now :)
The worst thing was nowing that 50% of all major quakes have second one approx 1 magnitude less within a week or so. It kept people like myself a little nervous for a while.
How many aftershocks did you get? For how many days?
Christchurch is in our thoughts and prayers.

that's pretty cool. weirdest thing is the feeling of the ground, it seems fluid in an earthquake.

I heard a boom with one at 1pm today and figured it must have been because it was shallow.
I looked at the coordinates and it was less than 2kms and just 4kms deep.
I feel for people in Cashmere and Westmorland and all the others built on the hill!
