seems like a fun app, but im pretty sure the point of a universal remote is to synchronize all devices' remote activities into one remote system not just mimic each remotes functions to be accessed one at a time like its shown in this video.

Ha, ha. That's actually a good question because most universal remotes are programmed via 4 digit codes pending on the manufacturer's item you wish to control.

Why would it be a waste of money? Why are there universal remotes on the market? Because people do not like to keep track of 2, 3, 4 remotes. Why do that and keep looking for them when you can have all of them on one device that you probably carry with you all the time anyway? My iPhone is always in my pocket. I don't always know where my remotes are. (Because of my kids.)

Now if they could have common devices already programmed in...My Sony Clie (Palm OS) had an app like this. It was great!

But doing all the buttons gives the remote pin-point accuracy to make it do what you want it to. some tvs have different wierd buttons on them that some remotes cant understand. On my old universal remote, the guide button would not function because of its inability to understand my needs.
