theres a mod that lets you have about 300 slots for more units. I have this mod and you can do massive battles. Just go to filefront and search up the empire at war mods.

I HAVE the Gold Pack. EAW and FOC is not in any way modified, it's just two seperate games. The gold pack is nothing more than the EAW and FOC in the same disk but installed seperately (if you remember in the installation process). So in other words, it's like if you went to the store, bought the EAW disk and then you bought the FOC and installed them seperately.
U can install any map or mod according to the game that you want new features on.
So if you want maps and mods for EAW, you look for maps and mods that are ONLY for EAW. If you want maps and mods for FOC, you look for maps and mods that are ONLY for FOC.
You gotta remember that even though that FOC is an expansion pack, they are two very different games. That's why there are seperate and different mods for EAW and for FOC.
Go to Filefront, then find the game and you'll see all the content you can download.

The game is definitely outdated, no question about it. It's 8 years old! (It was released back in 2001.)
As for the boring factor... I guess it wouldn't be boring if you were into the nostalgic gaming. But the gameplay has too many flaws and is just frustrating to play... which gets very boring. :\

you should've used your mechs and shit closer to the front so they take more of the assault instead of your troopers-that were used as canon fodder. Also better organization is needed to attack all the turrets simulteneously.

I made a more epic battle of hoth then what the story gives you. Each side had about 1000 units. But the Empire had stornger units while Rebels had instalations like sheilds and turrets, even a medium wall. It was quite epic that me and my firends loved to play on.

Star wars Galactic Battle grounds for the pc. This looks like a senerio that the player made.. this is a really great game it is really hard to find tho. its based on the age of empires game the gameplay gets pretty intense if you play it on the harder settings
theres a player made 'mod' that lets you play as the confederates that includes trade federation but i havent tried it yet.
Gameplay-wise Empire at War is good, but is not perfect. The land battles arent that great, but they are good if playing against a player. The Space battles are good and theres a big galaxy map where you control planets, develop them, build factories and mining and build fleets and raise troops. The AI isnt great for that either but multiplayer is really good 4 campaign
The space battles are very good i bought it 2 days ago and that you can control the galaxy with the planets is cool but i dont like it you cant buil barrackes in the campaing you only can get them with that reinforcements or something
you can build new troops from the barracks during a battle phase, but only if youre troop allowance points have dropped to a certain level (i think - its been a while since i played i must admit)

The game uses the Age of Empires 2 engine and includes the exact same powerful but easy-to-use editor, so you CAN make your own levels and campaigns with ease. The game spans Episodes I, II (with the expansion), IV, V and VI with six (eight with expansion) playable factions. You should be able to buy it via Amazon or E-Bay fairly cheap.
