The "Thumbprint of God", it has been called. A great secret of the universe is revealed in these images - in many fractal images. From the simplest mathematical formulae, these images flow. They explain the repeating patterns of the universe, from conch shells to galaxies.
@Nulmatik Jaxkr1 is talking rubbish. A fractal is a geometric shape in which parts of it resemble the whole. ie. there is a part of it you can "zoom in on" and you'll see the original shape, so when you zoom in on that, you'll see the original shape again and so on. This property is called self similarity. It's true that fractals are drawn FROM formulae, but they are NOT formulae. It's like saying y=x is a straight line - it isn't, it can just be represented as such as a graph.
@Amperhammer It's Mandelbrot set, a notorious fractal set. Fibonacci is not even close related to this. This set contains the complex numbers whos make a specific succession (I'm not going to define it here, go check wikipedia) be limited. Moreover, the complex numbers contained are the black parts in the video and the coloured ones are outside the set.
@AlgebricDiddle lol, whoops. I had two videos open in different tabs. My comment on this was meant to be a comment on a video called "nature by numbers" :p
@bmccork ...so i put a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal in a fractal ...
That's all relative of course because isn't this just a 2-Dimensional image of a 4-Dimensional mathematical set of points? Although even that's possibly debatable.
I'm glad there isn't a mandelbrot set lingering about in some hole somewhere in our world. (Relative again as the image of a mandelbrot is just a fraction of an infinitely larger image).
Very nice colors. I assume this was rendered offline and not in realtime right? If you want to see a different type of fractal check out my channel - I'll keep updating it. It's got cool fractal morphs :)
Guys! If you want to know more about fractals, watch this excellent video. It's about the length of a single class, and totally worth it in my opinion.
We're all just pieces of a fractal in this vast and possibly infinite universe.
Think about it, all planets are circular, and all solar systems orbit a star, and all stars spiral in a galaxy, and all galaxies clump together to form superclusters, and so on and so forth...
@DjKenJamison Exactly. all you do is z^2+c. so 0^2+1 = 1 then reinput f(z) into z again: 1^2+1 = 2. now 2^2+1 = 5 So far we have 0 1 2 5. the next values are 26 and then rapidly increasing into the thousands millions and billions.
If you are a truth seeker, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click on the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says. Everyone needs to see this. The Present will turn this world right-side up if it reaches enough people. You will see what I mean when you read the first page.
Nova had this great program on Fractals last night. An explanation is if you take a function z=x+y, create a set. Take the solution from that set and send it through the same function, do that millions of times and graph it, that what you get.
@lemonsnlimes333 As for my understanding, which mind you is not fully to be trusted, fractals are just examples of an endless pattern repeating as one may (as shown in this video) ascend into it. The idea of fractals please me because everything seems to work as such. For example, consider the geometric movements of our universe. The smallest orbit we know of is a moon revolving around a planet, then a planet revolving around a star, then a star revolving around the center of a galaxy, and so on
@RubyRileyS Yeah I know haha. Glad to see you understand what I'm saying though. I bet if we kept observing and researching we'd find the universe to follow that pattern infinitely.
So, here's a possibly stupid idea from someone with no real education on fractals so sorry if I'm being wrong, but if a fractal is an infinite zoom of infinite variations of geometric figures, then could complex, recognizable structures be formed as one of its infinite set of shapes?
Let A={sarcasm}, B={Math}, and C={Understanding}. Let my comment, D be defined as D∈A U B and your comment, E, represents the null set of C such that for every E, E ∉ C .
A thought just struck me, could our universe in theory be in fractal arrangement with black holes leading to sub-universes? And the big bang being our universe growing from a black hole in a parent-universe located in a fractal arm amongst infinity? Every universe would be self-similar with endless variables leading to endless outcomes.------

@Tompaplus You got it. Consciousness do the same on my view... You are 1 consciousness with trillions of mini-consciousness (cells) on you...
