  • No offense but that sucked. BUT that is a great starting point. We all have to start somewhere. Good luck with your very nice looking mustang. I started my mustang at 13.50 and got to 10.96 until last night when my supercharger came apart and took out my motor. So now on to bigger and better. Good luck

  • FYI, I have raced numerous "Rice Burners" over the years. I have never lost to any of them. My car runs high 11's on the motor.

  • tell you the truth... honda civics can get 11's naturally aspirated no turbos... its build is on forums by the way.... but i am getting a 351w 11.2 sec n/a 2,500 lbs car 351w is similar to 302 but 5.8l

  • I would take a 14-15 second Mustang over a 12-13 second Honda any day of the week. You just can't get that throaty sound a V8 makes out of a Honday engine no matter how much horsepower you have.

  • @3O2MuStAnG Yes...I know this, I should know this since I own a 2002 GT and a 1982 GT with forged internals plus a laundry list of other goodies. I was just making a point that a bone stock Mustang is preferable to any tuned Honda as far as I'm concerned. BTW, my 82 has seen 2 boosted Hondas and a boosted Mitsubishi...well, it was looking backward at the time because they couldn't keep up!

  • I agree. I am putting a 5.0 out of a 1988 mustang into a 1934 street rod. What exhaust do you guys recommend? The engine has AFR CNC ported aluminum heads, a Comp cam, and headers.

  • i personally hate hondas and am also a 5.0 owner, but you have to give the rice car the acceleration advantage over the 5.0, its been recorded by plenty of track members, its not to say they are better just quick, but its just a 50/50 possibility

  • haha ok so if mustangs are so great, and the ford engine is so good explain this, the new Lexus IS-F makes 415HP and over 350 lb-f of torque, and is a 5.0, also that car is heavier, and is still faster, and does over 30 mpg on the highway, and almost 30 in town. thats why japanese cars are much better than this shitty american trash

  • Yeah you're also comparing a 5.0L from the time of the 80s to a car of today. Besides that year mustang is a excellent platform to build off of because it is cheap, there are several parts for it and wether you have the 2.3 or 5.0 doesn't matter because they are both VERY buildabe. For under 3K you can build a 5.0 to do 12.2 in a 1/4. Your not going to get a lexus to do that for under 10K considering to get the car itself, is over 10K

  • the brand new mustangs still have really poor power.... especially for the size of the engine... and lexus's are very reliable and dont break down... i have an old 93 LS400, and its got 600,000 km's and ive never had to replace anything, my parents freind drove it from new and he only did the basic things, timing belt, etc. they last forever.

  • What are you smoking? The new mustangs are faster than the old ones. It took ford a 429 to get 13s in a 1/4 where as today they can get it with a 4.6L The new 4.6LSOHC is making 300HP that is alot off of a SOHC when Ford's old DOHC 4.6L was making 305. Only if they redesigned the old DOHC. The engine in my mustang is over 19 years old and has had over 260,000 miles on it and it had a shot crank, cam, pistons, bearings, ect. and it still ran! Even broken a Ford will still run.

  • Dont break down? any car will break down. it is all how you take care of it. thats only 375000 miles. impressive, but not unheard of. my dad had a 97 F150 that he ran mobil 1 full synthetic in. at 312000 miles he took it for emissions testing and it came out like burning right out of the factory.

  • i used to have a 1988 chevy 1 ton pickup that sat for 5 years with over 500,000 miles on it and it still ran like bran new

  • Sweet ride. I myself love AODs. I live in the city. Hate pedal and clutch on steep hills. The stock AOD is not strong but once they are built right, they can go over 100k even with hard driving and shifting.

  • plus with a shift kit, they rule on the street. no missed shifts, and you dont have to worry about tearing up clutches.

  • i own an 04 cobra a 99cobra and an 04GT and im definitly looking to add a 5.0 to the stable, but ive only drivin stock 5.0's how are they once u do a few bolt on's

  • they really seem to resond well. heads cam intake and gears will wake up a five-oh. they're pretty light and handle well. you'd definatly not regret it, a bit cheaper than your cobras too :P

  • Todays engines are rated way above the normal driving range. I would rather have a 325hp 400 lbs tq at 3500 rpm than a 400hp 325 tq at 5500 rpm engine. Older engines were made for torque. 302 were quite torquey and that's the fun.

  • You can take a stock 87-93 5.0 add a cheap used turbo kit for around 1500 and beat damn near any car on the street today...Name any other car out there that comes anywhere remotely close to a 5.0 mod for mod...NOTHING

  • uhmm.. im sorry, i own a mustang but i know this statement is false. you could easily take a LS1 powered car, throw a turbo on it and make well over what a 5.0 will make. stock bottom end 5.0 motors start tearing themselves apart after 500HP,where as ive seen stock bottom end LS1's pushing 650+ ... but anyway, nice fox. what numbers did you get and whats done to it?

  • this is true. but there are a bunch of block options for the windsor engines now so 500+ is no sweat. with money and time anything can be fast, just depends on what you like.

  • 5.0 mustangs were a bolt on paradise. There comes a point where you start hurting parts. You can't lean on them too much.

  • u will smoke the new one? or have u even tried cuz the 99-04 have 190, thats a big jump from the 94-98 which only had 145, plus the newer v6's have more hp then that...even if u beat that..it would be by a hair. the only thing u might by is ur acceleration...u might have some type of posi, or a locker..whereas the newers v6's one wheel peel around. Not dissing the older GT's or anything im just saying it should be more for a v8. I own a 99 3.8 and i'd give u a run for ur money ;)

  • This car, like my 89, is a GT. The SVT Cobra had a different rear bumper cover, wing, tail lights, nose, ground effects, and wheels, along with numerous engine changes. It also had LX tailpipes that were visible, unlike the GT.

    As far as the differences between the GT and LX, the GT was just a body kit added to an LX hatch. It also came standard with a sport interior. They're the exact same car under the skin.

  • Technically, yes, but not in the US, and they were nothing like the SVT Cobra. From 84-92, every Canadian GT was officially known as a Mustang Cobra GT. The 93 GTs sold in the Great White North dropped the Cobra designation to avoid confusion concerning the SVT Cobra, even though it wasn't sold up there. For the US market, the only Cobras were the 79-81 and 93 models.

  • Nope. The cobra IIs started in the mid 70s I believe 76, the last year for cobra was 81 and was brought back in 93, and then ended 04.

  • Not really, ford ditched the cobra for the new GT500 which this year is suppose to get 540HP to 600HP if you get the super snake, and ford is likely to bring some of the old mustangs back. There are rumors that the boss is coming back, and that in 09 ford is going to make several small and big engines optional all the way from 3.5L V6 to 5.8L V8

  • my 93 gt is dynoed at 265 with just a cold air intake, distributer cap and spark plug wires. before that it was at 245 stock.

  • I got a weird vibration in my tri-ax short shift, vibrates really bad at rpms over 3k. deffintly annoying right? lol...When you get the next dyno done though, be sure to put up a video.

  • Yup, I was hoping for a lot more. But it's bone stock, almost at 90,000miles on the odo at the time of that video and the AOD in her was slipping.

    i have an e303, springs, and lifters waiting to go in but I'm having some unknown vibration in the driveline that I need to find and fix first. So i'm just waiting for money and time. She'll get there.

    She's 5spd now and I'd like to get a new set of numbers soon. Just been way to busy.
