I may not have much experience about stuff like this, but I think there's a way to create a root password which is something that is explained in the ebook.
I get the the last step every time. I type in ./run/john sha1.txt and get "No such files or directory". I am not dumb with computers, I know what I am doing so it's not a stupid mistake that I am making. Any help would be appreciated.
I have followed all of the steps up to where JTR loads the sha1.txt file. When I attempt to run the './run/john sha1.txt' command I get the error 'No password hashes loaded'.
If anybody has any idea on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.
please email me how to get the hash i type in exactly what you say and got the first code but now when i type in exactly what you do the second time and it says "cat: /var/db/shadow/hash/MYFIRSTENCRYPTEDCODE: No such file or directory
say i couldn't remember my mac computers password , to find out what it is would i use this process on the same computer that i needed to find the password for?
Is there any other way to run the mac in single user mode other than opening the mac and changing the RAM? It is not my mac and my father took away my root access and I do not want to do anything to it in case I break it because I don't have the money to pay for a new one.
@Barn3yB1tch You DO NOT have to open up your Mac and do anything with the RAM to access Singe-User Mode unless somebody has set a firmware password on the computer. Just hold down the Command (or Apple Key) and the "S" key while the screen is still gray, before the Apple logo appears.
@deadhorse555 Yes, but you still need root access. Before entering the commands, you'll have to enter:
ssh root@LOCALIP, and then the root password, replacing the "LOCALIP" with the local IP address of the target computer on the network. Then, enter the rest of the commands normally.
@hackmacorg i did get the root access but don't know where to put the password
should i put it before " ssh root@LOCALIP" or after? i would be grateful if u could type it out and i just fill in the blanks as it keeps telling me connection refused
@deadhorse555 You need to enable SSH first. Log into the target computer physically using your root account, open up System Preferences, then go into the Sharing preference pane, and enable "Remote Login"
Then, enter the "ssh root@LOCALIP" command, and it will prompt you for the password.
@hackmacorg I try login root and it asks for my password but it doesnt work...I know it doesnt show up and stuff but it says login incorrect...So I try login with my shortname and it works but not with root...Help haha
@Mw2Gameplay192 The root account doesn't come pre-enabled, you have to enable it first. Check this out to enable it: support.apple.c om/kb/HT1528 (remove the space between .c and om)
@xpress212 it mixes words from a list i think (i think it mixes them, but not thinking about the list, i checked the list out.). so yes i think it will work.
I got it to work until cat /var/db command but when i finish the command it says "cat: /var/db/shadow/hash/EBEF68A6-EEF4-496D-9BF3-2AE7F99D4A35: No such file or directory" More help plz!
Did you know that macs are being targeted by web sites. So if you get a whole bunch off pop ups take it to the store and they can refresh because even if your cursor passes over the link it could download the virus! JUST A WARNING BUT BE CAREFUL!
***To all macs you can help prevent this by going to safari app. click :Safari::Reset Safari:***
