i'm liking the video. only thing is that i wanted some kind of speed changes during the longer fills. it seemed like whatever rhythm the fill started with, say sixtuplets, swung triplets, or 8th notes, it felt like it stayed the same rhythm the entire time.

i probably do it too much in my video but you should check it out and let me know what you think.

Thats a great sound! I am in a band and we play mostly straight rock songs but people have told me that my drumming is in a funk style which makes us different but i have never had any funk drumming lessons. Do you think funk is a feeling for that type of groove or do you have to learn it? It seems quite hard to define.

Thanks for the Question.

I think Funk is very much a "Feel" thing, but it is also about the placement of the notes & being subtle about what You play in a Groove & just as importantly what You DON'T play.

You can learn it from a teacher, no question, but it is also a Love for that particular take on a Groove that can create that sound.

Give it a go, I'm sure You'll like it.

I'm 16. I play drums when I can, which isn't as often as I'd like lol. I play for my school in a jazz band and I've come to learn funky a little. Seeing how it's the main thing I've played lol. You're a great drummer man, you get into it, nothing too extravagant, you play what you're feeling and that's what matters. Keep it funky man.

I suppose the three most important things are Relax, Listen & pay close attention to the Band Leader or Conductor.

Relaxation & a calm, focused mind are the most important thing when trying to play creatively & comfortably in a Big Band environment.
