I saw Billy when he opened a concert for Kiss. He had a keyboard hanging around his neck. He rocked a whole stadium full of long-haired white boys (including me). It was amazing.
This guy was the 5th Beatle and the 6th Rolling Stone as well as having an amazing solo career but I think we can all agree that his biggest accomplishment in his amazing life was...hands down...that fucking afro. hahahaha.

Billy Preston was simply a musical genius. In one of his records, each track has a different kind of music, from Soul to Gospel. A real treat, something to everyone. Anyone that lived in those days, could not help but to admire his immense talent. A one of a kind.
Such aspersions can't lessen Billy's fantastic contribution to music as the 5th Beatle or as a solo performer. He was a child star like Michael Jackson. He used to practice piano at Nat King Cole's house but it was tough when the major labels made him perform "weird tracks for white preppies in Europe in the early 60's" but thats when he met the Beatles in Hamburg, Germany and the rest is history.
He was considered by many to be the "5th Beatle"! He recorded so much with them back in the day. A true musical genius; he is missed by many. His music will live on forever.

Billy remains one of the top session keyboard players of all time and a writer of truly great pop songs. More important, he was a good soul with a love of people and truly good things. Billy could do it all, but as a purveyor of soul on the hammond B3, no one did it better.

Billy remains one of the top session keyboard players of all time and a writer of truly great pop songs. More important, he was a good soul with a love of people and truly good things. Billy could do it all, but as a purveyor of soul on the hammond B3, no one did it better.

Sad, his drug use, and child abuse which probably damage his sexuality, most victims of sex abuse may turn girlish if they don't receive therapy and spiritual help.
