  • Cool video.. For us grown ups it's called science... but for little kids... it called MAGIC... thanks for sharing.... :)

  • amazing

  • Wow this is great. Fantastic.

  • carbon dioxide magic : D

  • bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) + vinegar= sodium acetate + water + cabon dioxide

    NaHCO3+HC2H3O2---> NaC2H3O2+H2O+CO2

he's puoring the the CO2 which is putting out the candles... well that or its magic.

  • WHAT MAGIC IS THIS! TO THE DUNGEN!

  • o m its the smell of baing soda that evaporates and than coold it becoms water but its invinsible not like steam

  • @fessu23fessu i think its carbon dioxide

  • i know the solution...is it the gases from the mixture created from the reaction that blows it out??

  • lame

  • nice

  • NaHCO3+CH3COOH-->CH3COONa+CO2+H2O.

    CO2 is a famous extinguisher

  • song please?

  • @nighthawkguy1 off Mac 'garage band '- sorry can't remember track

  • @Efiar2100

Actually, the reason we can blow out candles is because our breath cools the wick enough that it cannot sustain combustion. When we exhale our breath still has more O2 than CO2 in it, which is why blowing gently on embers causes them to flare up.

  • mind . bown.

  • @blindingmask410

    .

Science is only interesting until the point you realize that nobody cares how things actually work.

  • cool..I like science..

  • Yes CO2 is heavier than air so can be contained and poured from an open topped vessel

  • yes cool.

  • that was pretty cool!

  • Yes it's just carbon dioxide.

  • its simply carbon dioxide is it not?

  • yep. Gasses can be poured just like liquids... it's just a little harder to aim where they're going.

  • you are correct sir!

  • does anyone know the name of this song?

  • that was kool although you r just blowing out the candles while ur pouring it on them, and tis in the dark ! but kool thinking

  • Learn some science and try again.

  • Uhh no he's not actually.. If you payed any attention at all, all you see in the video is his arm. His head would have to be close to the candles to blow them out, which never happened.

  • How the hell did u do that??

  • The gas given off is denser then the air around in . so it is possible It stays in the container and it can literally be "poured" out of it. The Gas then does as you say suffocate the flames.

  • You are correct....baking soda and vinegar react to give off CO2 (Carbon Dioxide). The candle flames are being starved of oxygen.

  • is the solution releasing a lot of carbon dioxide to suffocate the flame?

  • Oh I've done this before. It was like in one of my science classes and we built like this huge ski slope made out of candles and we just poured it at the top and it would go down the slope incline of candles and put them out.

  • Creative

  • awsome vid man! ppl guit being bullies, quit saying things mean & nasty that u wudn't say to someones face, b/c if u do say some thing like that it only means u a cowerd, & last but not least it makes u look bad. what wud ur parents say if they saw you say such rude things to others let alone type them. typeing such things is like saying to thier face except you don't known them, u've never met them, & its rude. so please have the decency to be polite to those that u may/may not know for once.

  • Great to see science expirements directed towards kids!

The video was put together nicely!

  • does anyone know what this tune is?

  • its the co2 of wich the mixture makes

  • This is so cool :D

Whats the name of the song/melodi? It's really nice and make you chill :)

  • Comment removed

  • You know it takes 2, so if your time is so fucking precious maybe you should just shut the fuck up. If me replying as much as this means I don't do anything but sit on youtube then it means the same for you. Are you saying you're a shitbag and a faggot? And your fat too, damn now I know why you spend all your time on youtube. Nobody likes you.

  • will not get you arrested unless your a dumb ass and do it in the city!

  • wow that's really cool

lmao. you all need to relax. so what if he types words different. gought uh prawblim? Get over it

  • LOL halomaster is an idiot.. Only "Internet" word that makes sense to use is "lol" because it is shortening laugh out loud. "itz" and "lik" just make you sound retarded. You probably use them because you can't spell "it's" or "like". Dumbass.

  • agreed

  • Woah that was cool! And ha stop arguing, we all know people who type L1K3 TH15, or anything similar, "itz", yes you sound like a dumbass, please, I beg you please! Don't compromise your intellegence for a few key strokes! It makes me completely not care what you wrote, regardless what it was. And really, like a fellow commenter said, when you type something like "itz" it's not even shortening the word, just going out of your way to lose my respect, and make you look like an idiot.

  • Thank you very much for posting this. It is good to see someone else spreading the word about this.

  • i do it sometimes, but only when my nerves are making it painful in my hands. but yes i agree

  • yeah CO2 kills things that require oxygen...like puppies...

  • of yeah... but PUPPIES! Thats just strange. : |

  • Cool. :)

  • he's pouring out the vapors created from the mixture and they drown out the air feeding the flame.

  • sweet

  • wow, thats pretty cool

  • very cool

    5 star from brazil !!!

  • Gotta love science.

  • Sweetness! As an entertainer this gives me an idea for a mime/magic segment.

  • WOW, that was intense, the way you poured that CO2 onto those candles.

  • Wouldnt this work with vinegar and baking soda?

  • *facepalm*

  • yes...he was just hiding the brand names.

  • Congrats, you poured CO2 on candels depriving the flame of Oxygen.

    Cool

  • omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg

  • what is this song?

  • Awesome

  • The sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda) and vinegar, when combined creates a chemical reaction. The gas created is carbon dioxide (one carbon to two oxygen atoms) that is heavier than the surrounding air, thus the carbon dioxide basically falls on the candle's flames, smothering them from lack of oxygen which is required for combustion. To the uneducated person that does not understand the simple laws of chemistry that are being used here, you can have a lot of fun.

  • Just CO2, a gas heavier than air!

  • so the ingredience for this is gas right?

  • WHAT IS THIS SORCERY!!?!?!

  • sorcery ? u mean science

  • this is retarded, of course carbon dioxide is heavier then air so it sinks to the ground and puts out the fire

  • The solution creates carbon dioxide, which cuts off the oxygen supply to the candle, thereby putting them out. Kind of an obvious "trick".

  • read below a few ;)

  • What ever happened to Bill Nye the sciencee guy?

  • For the little while I was taking AP Chem, one of the coolest things I saw was taking some ethanol, I think, putting it in a gallon tank, hugging and warming it so it evaporates, and then putting a fire on top of it so it just BURNSSSSS >:D

  • /It is just producing carbon dioxide which displace oxgen and with out oxgen fires cant retain there flame

  • Jeez ever heard of simplifying it. why not say "baking soda" instead of "bicarbinate soda"? Yes it is the correct chemical term or what not. then why not call "vinegar" some "acid". Not hating interesting video though.

  • Hooray for CO2

  • haha I get it... wicked. like a candle wick

  • dang. in 20 minutes this guy got over 3,999 views!!!!

  • posting ur number on the internet specially here is retarded you are either young or really stupid

    OR

you are posting someone else's number w/out their permission and you can be in big trouble for that

  • Its not stupid when your as bored as me.

  • -_-

    dude, seriously...

    seriously, dude...

  • Yes. Seriously.

    :|

Thats my im sored bored and serious face.

  • you're on the internet.

    there are millions of possibilities.

    ;)

  • i did that in science class

  • lame. bill nye did a similar demo on his show in the 90s with two paper bags on opposite ends of a broomstick. if you are impressed by this, you are at least 10 years behind the curve.

  • Ahem, I'm 23 but I remember on nickelodeon's early morning stuff and probably pbs as well, MR. WIZARD did the broom stick and two bags first. So bam. In yo fucking face foo'. Lol, jk

  • 44,000th view!

  • Wow! it's magic!!

  • cool!

  • that was pretty sick id like to do that to someones eyes or sumthin hahha

  • Was not impressed.

  • dumb

  • ITS TRUE!!! IT WORKS! OMG!

  • well now science does rule

  • Well Played

  • nicely done

  • I have to go downstairs and try that!

  • That's freakin' cool!! I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to mention this but any chance this can be considered for fighting fires and such? Again I don't know who else has mentioned it but if not then hopefully it can be considered. I'm in Los Angeles and we get fires through out California ALL THE TIME!! Sweet experiment!!

  • woh, thats kinda cool!!

  • kinda? it IS!

  • Oh wow.... Amazing!

  • wait did he pour it or did he just make it go near the candles to put it out plz reply

  • Fire requires Oxygen to burn. When vinegar is mixed with baking soda it produces carbon dioxide so since its heaver then air it drops to the ground and chokes the flames of oxygen.

  • when he mixes them it makes a gas and he pours the gas onto the flame extinguishing it

  • it looks like the solution put out carbon dioxide, cutting off oxygen so fire is impossible...

  • he poured it

its just the gas (carbon dioxide "CO2") that comes out of the reaction,

to light the candle u need oxygen (O2) and to turn it off usually u blow on it which means adding CO2 which turns fireoff since fire releases CO2....

So, this CO2 that comes out of the reaction is just like the one that comes out of your mouth...

if u noticed, he immediately poured the gas after the reaction or otherwise it will go upside into the air...

  • well it doesnt necessarily disperse throughout the air.. Carbon dioxide is a rather dense gas so it will usually sit in a container for awhile before diffusing through the air completely. thats also why it falls when he pours it

  • it's the CO2 that comes from the reaction of vinegar and carbon bioxide that turns off the light. Nothing extraordinary about it, but still that's quite an imagination you have(:

  • We diod this in science class last year.

  • That was cool! Thanks for sharing!

  • Ah thats so cool!!

  • That mix creates CO^2. Fire needs O^2 to stay lit. The CO^2 "suffocated" the fire, thats why it was put out. CO^2 is heavier than O^2, so it stays in the pitcher until it was poured out.

  • its very old......

  • coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool!!!!!!!

  • 44,000 viewer! watch my vids!

  • The baking soda and vinegar react with a byproduct of CO2 (carbon dioxide) Which is heavier than air. This displaces the air with it's mixture of oxygen out of the pitcher.

Candle burning is also a reaction of carbon based material and oxygen (O2) in the air. It's byproduct is also water (H20) and CO2. When the heavy CO2 in the pitcher is poured over candles it displaces the oxygen (and other air gases) in the air around the candle. No oxygen, no burning candle!

  • yay for chemistry :O

  • They aren't blown out, just extinguished from the lack of oxygen

  • pretty sweet

  • I did something similar in chem

But after we blew out the candle, we lit it again and poured a flammable, denser than air gas on the candle. Muahaha

  • The gas generated displaces the oxygen and without oxygen, the fire goes out.

  • wow magic

  • Not much of a chem person are ya?

  • whats chem

  • Chemistry. It was a joke.

  • It was a lame joke. Just forget I said it. :P

  • ok i will forget it but please stop doing lame jokes

  • LMAO funny but that is so stereotypical -.-....

and i checked your profile and it says your from mexico

  • yes thats right sorry it was just a joke i was bored

  • Well now I know why you truly don't know what chem is.

  • its easy why this happens the mixture makes a gas that is heavier than air then you tilt the pitcher and the heavy as goes down the blows out the candles

  • this is nothing compared to the youtube video....invisible water

  • the gas expelled from that chemical reaction was coming out of the top and blew out the candles.

  • i thought it was going to blow up the candles and make the flame so high... but that was cool..

  • Wow thats cool!

  • My inner nerd loved this experiment. I'm going to have to ask my o chem professor why this happens.

  • Nice experiment, wasn't expecting that, haha

    Good Job.

  • never mind i take that back

  • i dont get it.

  • vinigar and bakeing soada make CO2 and thats heavyer than air and snuff candles

  • thats kewl

  • kewl...

  • so i guess that you think that every person who has ever used a fire extinguisher deserves to be shot and killed, don't you otisourcat?

  • oraia malakia...!!!! bravo...!!!

  • There's no more co2 involved in that experiment than is involved in taking one breath. Shame on you for every breath you take, hippy asshole.

  • Rofl. Ever heard of the Carbon Cycle?

  • Interesting

  • the chemical reaction produces a gas byproduct which is heavier/more dense then air. This gas is Carbon Dioxide.

    CO2 is a common extinguisher

  • And already forgot it all, spelling being one of the victims of your amnesia

  • does it really mater the way i type?? seriously

  • It's fucking annoying and it's fucking pointless. It doesn't shorten or make it easier to type when you're saying shit like yhu and itz. How much time are you saving by taking the a out of talk. Really.

  • Ha ha, I was watching a ShaneDawson vid (don't ask why) But the song at the end of his vid was the same as the one in this video! I clicked on this video right after watching it so I thought it was pretty funny. Cool experiment.

  • that was weird, cool, and totally stupid at the same time!

dk how that could be tho

  • so ?

  • Standard Baking soda and vinegar.

Simple cheap ingredients you can buy from any store in the United States.

The two produce carbon dioxide, heavier then air, la dee da... invisible gas that puts out fires.

  • try putting enough in the class to have it go out and extinguish fire without the lame moving it over the candles. think it would take alot?

  • totally

  • maybe you should go back to school and learn how to spell and speak proper english

  • That was... unimpressive.

    Well shot though.

  • To a child or British teen this may seem like magic!

  • Yeah. I guess it's a tad cooler than blowing it out :)

  • that is sick.

  • I did that last week in science... not only does it smother the candles it also makes a mess... but hey since vinegar is a good cleaning agent the tables are cleaner than ever... LOL = D

  • its just taking the oxegen out of the equation thats the only reason the fire disapears

  • What? That's not science.

GOD put out those candles. And added them to the sky. That's where stars come from.

  • haha this gave me a good laugh, thanks man.
