A great live performance and sounds just as good now as it did in 2007. Bravo for Kurt and Laurence and the guys for the twisted and GROOVELICIOUS arrangement
and stretching the jazz envelope on this classic pop tune. If I were the songwriter, I would be thrilled and excited with this treatment; breathing new life into a classic. Hats off to you Kurt!
I'm seeing Kurt at the Sydney Opera House next Tuesday......it'll be different..as it is each time he performs...go Kurt....Clarence Beeks would definitely approve ...
OMG Kurt is just hammers you down into ur chair, woosh....But, but....Who is that man who standing behind? But.... ITS BOB MINTZER!!!! TWO AMAZING SURPRISE AT THE SAME TIME!!!
Can't believe I haven't heard jazz players cover "Undun" multiple times; it pretty much is a jazz tune when you listen to the chord changes...but who better than Kurt to step up?
SupernalOne, I picked up Live in Chicago at a street market in Seattle's Fremont district...still blows me away.
I think Kurt's vocal timbre is what they call warm and dry --
NOt enough male jazz vocalists around - but Kurt makes up for the lack all by himself - Night Dreamer is amazing, Esperanto is cosmic, Oh My God is hellaciously groovy - I'm glad I stumbled across the Live in Chicago CD in the local library - gonna try to find someone to come to see him at the Kennedy Center this weekend - my older daughter would love it, but she's out of the country -- in a pinch I'll go alone, can't miss Kurt

I don't get it either!! I was reading how this guy took Bachmans "Undone" song and totally turned it into a "different" song. Came here and saw this and was thinking "What the Fuck."
The band members here are good but I don't get the singer at all.
I don't know where did you get the idea that Kurt is not a good singer!!! I mean... what the hell are you listening??? man!! you gotta go listen other things, maybe Britney or the Foo Fighters will enjoy your taste!! This is one of the top three singers in jazz nowadays!! Viva Kurt Elling!!!
Jazz is NOT Rock. Jazz is all about taking the song apart and putting it back together. He's not trying to do the Guess Who version (which, btw, is incredible), he's trying to do more with the vocal phrasing and he's interacting with the instruments very differently than he'd do if he was a rock singer (most of whom don't impress me as great singers as far as the way they use their "instrument") Let it be what it is: an interpretation of the original that goes in another direction.
ummm haha... He's the best singer i've ever heard. His pitch is perfect, and his voice is so complex and deep. That, and he really puts personality into any song he sings - he uses his voice so well.
Maybe you don't like his rendition of this song, but there's no way you can say Kurt Elling is a bad singer, sorry.
mintzer's playin is actually really good on this version, really nice solo. never mind not "feelin d tune" thats a load a crok hes just pushin the harmonic envelope a bit is all
love this tune and Kurt Elling, have a few of his CD's! Love the duet he does with Cassandra Wilson " time of the season" and the tune" detour ahead"?
yeah, I saw him live near Lisbon and it was unforgettable. was really lost in the moment, just listening outdoors on a summer night. U don't get the same thing from the CD...
I love kurt's voice, but i don't think it's 'smooth'. The pianist who plays with him described his voice as being like a wine - with very complex and rich flavours... it gets all raspy when he goes deep, and then pure when he goes high. That's why i love his voice.
Check out Anthony Warlow. He has the most amazing voice i've ever heard.
3 people didn't come Undun like the rest of us..when they heard this...haha... This is amazing. Kurt is the Man!

This is a true jazz singer.
Refreshing not to hear another Sinatra.
Studio recordings are much better .
With Tony Bennet this is my favourite singer.

Wow...Bob Mintzer on the stand with the Elling Band. Good stuff - even if Kurt doesn't seem that excited about Mintzer being there.

Randy Bachman, the original canadian writer of this song, was taught guitar in jazz style as a teen
and now has reverted back to his jazz roots.
Is now working with Diana Krol/Costello.

This is good stuff. You have to hear the studio version to appreciate his voice and the richness of the piano.

To see Kurt live is an experience you will never forget in a lifetime.
I am counting the days till I see him again in Miami (he's performing two nights and I'm for sure going to both)
