  • The slower, heavier Melvins version just fits the song better. Has the right soul to it.

  • glad to hear gene sing a ballad or something close to one

  • Cool song, but honestly, Melvins just took it to another level. King Buzzo made it his.

  • @greenrevelator fuck yeah he did. hail to the king baby

  • @greenrevelator hell yea he did

  • melvins . melvins

  • Kiss served it up, but the Melvins ate it. Ate it without utensils.

  • musik magik mistik ...

  • kiss sucks shit, but there's no denying they're the greatest sellouts in the history of music

  • @kkkhronicmunchies You crazy. Kiss has so much good music. Watch some of their MTV unplugged videos. They have one of the cleanest sounds over MANY bands!

  • @kkkhronicmunchies , what about George Michael?

  • @kkkhronicmunchies don't insult my favourite band you shithead; what have you done that is remotely as remarkable as Kiss. nothing obviously you fucking loser!!

  • melvins > kiss

  • thumbs up if you always play both version in a row

  • I love their old production sound on their first 3 or 4 albums.

  • @toadman842 I think Hotter than Hell was the best! Loved the sinister looking Japanese theme...it was just great for the time!

  • they were very good in the 70's especially first 4 albums but 80's were horrible i think :)

  • @Gramsci

The only reason KISS should exist in my opinion is so that the Melvins could cover the shit out of this song.

I just don't understand KISS. Since when was it cool to wear and act gay (which is ok) and make men-music? If I want to listen to men-music I listen to, yep u guessed it, the Melvins.

  • @JordiSmulders - KISS is not for everyone and they're the first to admit it. But KISS has moved and conquered more mountains than The Melvins ever will. I think even they would say it. When The Melvins can record a manly song like 'War Machine' then come tell me how great they are. When The Melvins can sell out a stadium anywhere on the planet still after 4 decades and remain on top then come back and we'll have something to talk about. KISS influenced a lot. Show respect to the facts.

  • @MainEventMafia4Life

actually, I've respect for KISS. If it wasn't for KISS, bands like the Melvins and Hellacopters for instance would not be alive. But solely for me, my opinion, KISS only existed to give these influences to other bands. I just never understood what is man-like about dressing up and wearing make up. Just not my cup of tea.

  • @JordiSmulders - This comment of yours might have a ton of validity if KISS aspired to be the manliest band on the planet. I don't think that was their general purpose though. They're just portraying characters on stage and besides Paul at times I don't really see anything strongly feminine about their characters. Especially Gene Simmons. He's supposed to be a demon/vampire. What is feminine about that exactly and lacking manhood? Come on.

  • This is actually a great song....hard concept for KISS! No wonder they needed to wear make-up, have explosions, smoking guitars, and fire-breathing! If you can't admit that they were musically challenged, I can't help you. Did they sell gold and platinum records? You bet! I bought many but I was 10 to 12 years old. I didn't take me long to hear that well....they just aren't very good musically. Sue me!

  • @DickLodge68 - Oh so KISS was just a gimmick band that made their name off a look alone is what you're saying? How did they survive all those years when they ditched the make-up and costumes? They survived because they had good songs that kept people coming back for more. I don't think KISS is an untouchable band musically, but they had enough skill to make good songs in the studio more times than not.

  • @MainEventMafia4Life Yes, to a point. Funny, I had already abandoned the Kiss Army before you were born! And you are going to now enlighten me? As soon as Kiss really unmasked, they became more commercialized than ever! They could rely on MTV! Sure they had a few good songs, Lick it Up. Guess what? Forever was mostly written by Michael Bolton. Whatever. By that time, I was so into Maiden, Priest, Queen and a whole plethora of bands that simply put Kiss into the grave for me.

  • @DickLodge68 - The age difference is irrelevant. People like you use the age card to camouflage the fact you can't defend your ill thought out points. First of all, KISS was always about making money from day one. So calling a band commercialized when that's what they wanted to be from day one is like telling me fire is hot. Also, KISS was more commercialized by 1979 than at any other point. If you're ashamed for being a KISS fan at one point, fine. I'm not though and never will be.

  • @MainEventMafia4Life The "age card" hahaa...maybe you should just pay attention. Perhaps consider the phrase "with age come wisdom"? What band ever did it for anything but for money? It's a business and it's a job! Kiss became commercialized with the Army...hell I have the patch and tattoos! They sucked it up, realized they were has beens and catered to the MTV crowd for people like you. Fact is..they sucked musically and had various peeps write their later songs. So yes, gimmicks.

  • @DickLodge68 - Well when I read some wisdom I'll give you your credit. All I'm reading is the ramblings of a guy ashamed of his likeness for a band when he was younger. If KISS realized they were has beens, as you claim, they never would have taken off the make-up and costumes. They redefined themselves and proved their songs could stand on their own without them being in character. 80's KISS is hit and miss material wise. YOU should pay attention because I never claimed KISS wasn't out for cash

  • @MainEventMafia4Life When you gain some wisdom, you'd realize this conversation is moot. You really don't know shit about KISS, do you? I just told you they used song-writers to write their songs from the '80's on. Sorry, by then (jeez I was 12 in 1980) you should have your shit straight. I knew that at 12 and you are 30something? WTF is wrong with you? You like it...fine....I don't. I'm not ashamed, I loved KISS...but I was a child. Fuck off...I don't care what you like.now or then or whenever!

  • @DickLodge68 - Hey, dumbass I never denied that KISS on SOME songs not ALL had co-writers off and on through the 80's. A lot of bands have co-writers sometimes. It's hardly a display of a band being washed up though. You need to read what I'm actually saying and not what you want me to say so you can continue your feeble points of no relevance. And if you REALLY didn't care about what I had to say or what I liked then you would have never responded in the first place. So go fuck yourself moron!

  • In my view, this is the ONLY song that Kiss ever did that was worth a shit.

It's a great concept. The 93 year old is dumping his 16 year old admirer. Something about this song makes me imagine it's set in Japan.

  • @alphakid42 Quite an oriental guitar sound to it :P

  • KISS outsold the Melvins, and outrocked the Melvins. Hotter than Hell made the Billboard charts without commercial promotion, and one single distributed in limited quantities. Hotter than Hell has gone gold despite the lack of publicity.

    Grunge fans, fuck off.

  • @riverlioness I wouldn't say "Outrocked", that's up for the subject to decide, opinion. They're different types of music, Melvins is heavy punk rock whereas this is extremely accessible classic rock, there's nothing wrong with this, this is classic, but you can't compare their music on record sales. I don't want to start an argument, that's just my take on it =)

  • @riverlioness Melvins did a way better job on this cover

  • @riverlioness They didn't out rock The Melvins. The Melvins are so much heavier. Really. Listen to "Honeybucket". The Melvins rocked out.

Also, The Melvins aren't grunge. They're sludge. And one more thing, if you want to get even deeper into genres, The Melvins are just The Melvins.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green

I don't have the time for your ass. The Melvins suck. Instead of arguing about genres, get a life.

  • @riverlioness Give me factual reasons as to why The Melvins suck.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green

The slow and distorted guitar playing is not as good as Ace. Never will be. Their drummer is awesome, but the guitar playing is just alright.

KISS sold way more records than the Melvins. It took them ten years to get a major record deal, after the "Seattle movement". There were superior bands in the 80s they couldn't compete with. I barely knew the Melvins existed in the 80s. Yeah, the Melvins own Nirvana, but so does any guitar player who can play more than 3 chords.

  • @riverlioness Yeah. Because selling more records means that you're better than someone. Nobody ever takes into account the number of people that bought the album and thought it sucked. Also, none of those are facts. Those are opinions. Don't state your opinions like they are factual. That just makes you look stupid.

  • @riverlioness Good music is not about how well you play your instrument, or how many records you sell. Also, don't act pretentious like you're "above" arguing about sub genres, when you're not above telling "grunge" fans to fuck off.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green

Look, the holidays are my busy season. I have financial statements to get to. I don't want to squabble about genres.

  • @Gramsci

KISS will beat Prozac zombies any day.

  • απ' τη μαλακία???

  • this is a good song-although the melvins DID improve the hell out of it-it was meant to be played at wall crumbling volume-more than likely it was a tune b4 its time, so if ur listenin, Buzzo! preciate it

  • this song id creepy and sad at the same time

  • You really like this song? Oooo k

  • this song sucked

  • I would just like to say that the Melvins cover of this song is like 80 times better. That is all.

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! KISS ARMY IS FOREVER!! LONG LIVE KISS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • melvins is better

  • 4 people that disliked this went blind

  • good pics! and wild tune!

  • i want to know who is the composer of this song

  • i think the Melvins version is way too slow, i perfer the Kiss Unplugged version.

  • Who else wants a refund? Holla back, you dig?!

  • @Gramsci fuck no, i heard this through the Melvins, but this one kicks Melvins ass! even though I'm a huge Melvins fan.

  • the melvins did this song 10 times better

  • @quinnofearth You meant "the melvins did this song 10 times better than I could do it, but Kiss rules."

Don't comment with half sentences anymore...

  • One of my favorite KISS songs...♥

  • Funny...don't get me wrong I loved KISS as a child. But at the same time a Brit band called Queen came about. Talk about opposites! Me, myself, and I will take Queen any day.

  • damn... i didnt know this was a kiss song , i just knew it as a melvins song... cool i guess. like the melvins cover though... is that wrong?

  • @Preciado6 nope, I didn't know it was a Kiss song either. Melvins took this tune to a whole new level.

  • @Preciado6 i heard this song through the Melvins too. When i heard it I was like, "man this Melvins song just has so much heart in it! it just feels so deep! I've never heard a Melvins song like this before!"

And then i found out it was a Kiss song, lol.

  • Did the title say a pretty "good song" from the album. For me it is one of their best !

  • This songs kinda creepy.. because it's about a 93 year old man falling in love with a 16 year old girl.

  • Fucking awesome song! Kiss has been with me for such a long time, and this compilation of pictures + this song really gets me kinda emotional over this band. Such an awesome group and heritage they leave behind

  • I really liked the photos you selected. One of those may even be Wicked Lester. Hotter Than Hell was the first music that I ever purchased as a child. I remember bringing it to school in the third grade and getting comments about an exposed nipple on the album sleeve. This was one of my favorite songs back then, and I'm happy that the Melvins covered it so well, too. It is good to know that Gene is an influence to the sludge/doom sound, too.

  • This cut always sounded the way slow, cold pain feels...to me, anyway. And the solo is downright hypnotic.

  • One of my favorites of the album!

  • Wat a great song thanks!

  • great pics! Some very rare shots of the band in the day. thanks for posting!

  • Kiss rules! I wish they still had the Kiss Army, remember that!?

  • @wizehassan Hell Yeah! I used to spray paint in ditches where we would hang out and do our skateboard thing.....KISS ARMY RULES!!!!! I was a young and naive teenager then.. But shit, KISS was the SHIT back in the 70's!

    Danny Jimenez

    aka Numanoid17

  • @numanoid17 True indeed!

  • THIS is music! Just pure amazing music! :D Love KISS forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • melvis version is much better.

  • @jalakanen KISS's version is clearly better! The other version doesnt come close to KISS's supreme awesomeness

  • @LobotomyMadeEasy and you need a life, hahahaha, if you don't like KISS then how about hopping off my video dumbass

  • @KODIbassplayer

    Kiss does fucking suck.

    This song, however...is good.

  • @LobotomyMadeEasy I'll say what KODIbassplayer didn't want to - Fuck off!

  • @LobotomyMadeEasy shutup retard no one likes your opinion, get outta of here.

  • @LobotomyMadeEasy Kiss my ass!!! assholeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • @LobotomyMadeEasy Fuck you fag

  • @LobotomyMadeEasy if you think KISS, why are you even lookin up songs by them

  • Yeah Melvins did this on Lysol right? Anyways, this is a badass song!

  • @MrGoatMusic

    Did it on Houdini ;)

  • @MrRisottootto

    Oh yeah!

  • Great! =D

  • heavy song from kiss

  • I love both this and the Melvin's version :D they both sound so good. One of my all time favorites for sure

  • This was my late great brothers favorite song.

    Rest in peace, bro.

  • @bloodysamgarcia may he rest in peace man.

  • This was my late great brothers favorite song.

    Rest in peace, bro.

  • I love this song probably Kiss' Best......I like when Gene sings the best although they all have great voices.

  • Obviously, the 93 age is something metaphoric, I think

  • ALWAYS A GREAT TUNE!

  • underrated song...

  • @busquets28 you're dead right mate, very underrated

  • Hotter than hell was produced by Bob Ezrin, who also produced The Wall !!!

  • 2:03 is really HOT!

  • I've never seen that pic at the end of the video. That pic says so much about Kiss. The young energy that is exuded, the rawness. You could see that they WANTED to be big. I just love the black and white photos. Kiss should definitely be in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame by now.

  • actually this is great, how the lyrics are sung in a "round"

  • Actually , Paul used the star long before "bandit" mask. It was at the behest of Neil Bogart that he try something different, to which Paul complied but wasn't happy with and eventually went back to the star. He only played two shows with the "bandit" make-up and did one photo session.

  • God I love the bass I this song. Powerful as fuck... and It's all about a paedo :p

  • The older I get the more I understand the truth behind this song. My god....how did I turn 93 so fast?!

  • im 93 and youre 16 hahahahah

  • This song is one of my personal favorites.I am a fan of the first 4 albums only..

  • @Boxingbear the first albums by bands are always the best. Before they get corrupt.

  • Badass tune! One of my favorites!

  • Ace at 2:10....he sorta looks like Vinnie...

  • Think the sound quality of this is lackluster? You're right. Get the original vinyl album, play it through a decent stereo, and you will be stunned. This album was not thin sounding at all--it was as full and heavy as anything else from that era. But like a lot of "classic rock", whoever remastered it for digital did a piss poor job. This is a great song, from their best album. Kiss was mysterious and kind of sinister early in their career. evilunixuser1 is right--they weren't the same after '75

  • under rated! great song

  • When people say Kiss is a joke, I get where they're coming from what with all the comercialism of them, I just wish they'd give this early stuff a listen. Oh, and cool little bass solo.

  • That "Bandit"make-up is EXACTLY the makeup from black cat(Marvel character) xD

  • proto-grunge all the way...

  • This was the sweetest part of their original sound!...So haunting and heavy!...Love love love it...nuthin bettah than eary KISS!!!!!!..... XXXX!!!

  • I always wondered why this album sounded so thin. Maybe they had a budget problem and lacked good sound engineers.(guess)

  • I always thought this was a Melvins song. I'm not really a Kiss fan, but this song is really good.

  • Comment removed

  • Great KISS shots, especially the second to last, that was when KISS was KISS...not the commercial empire as we know it today - sold out assholes KISS is these days, living for making as much money as possible. Believe me, I love KISS, but think they were never the same after the Alive album

  • I have listened to KISS for 27 years, and they f''n rock!!!!!

  • la mejor cancion de su album hotter than hel, me hace llorar

  • Very good song and VERY VERY GOOD SOLO!!!

  • love this song....

  • paul old make up design is way better than the star child

  • whos that to the left at 0:26

  • Its Paul, in "The Bandit" makeup, it was before he was the "star child"

  • @KODIbassplayer Actually he was Starchild before, then he tryed The Bandit, used it in two events, and got back to Starchild. Just Kisstory ;D

  • i think this is their best song ever ! i been hearing this tape for years! i wish i had it on vinyl or cd. i just cant bring myself to download it!

  • The song as a melancholic Beatles/Lennon feel.I actually love the bands first couple of albums, they sound a lot darker.

  • Great slidshow!! And great tune of course!

  • this album suffers from bad production, especially the drumsound.Ace is great though.

  • i think the piis poor drum sound quality actually adds to the overall vibe of the album

  • Wuhuu 70´s

  • who doesnt want a fresh 16 years old girl for him?

  • @adri2771 ARE YOU A FUCKIN´ PEDOPHILE? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? SHIT, PEOPLE LIKE YOU MAKES ME SICK...

  • @SouthernWhiteWolf woohoo. ipocrita testa di cazzo. go for translate. steppen wolf, go fuck yourself. a 16 year old girl with a brain it's even smarter then you, possibly... no, almost surely. and then i have a normal life, i don't fuck underage girls. i was talkin about desire. a fuckin normal desire. go read some nabokov, fuckin creationist pure fuckin arse that are you. sorry for bad english, but i rarely speak in that language. im sure you undestand me, anyway.

  • @SouthernWhiteWolf Well the sexual low age is different in different countries.. I Denmark for example its 15... Which it means its perfectly fine to fuck a 16 year old...

  • Greatful band!!!

  • The best song from KISS, no doubt. There is a cover of this song by the melvins, very very nice too.

  • Il love it!!

  • no it wasnt actually he was learning drums at this time . FYI Peter Criss was the drummer.

  • the best kiss song ever

  • Great song, and Hotter than Hell is is one my favorite album artwork.

  • alright, no more arguing on the video or talking about the melvins, the comments will be removed for now on

  • Untrue. They actually slowed it down, and it lacks much of the original irony. It also gives me a headache.

  • This is one of Kiss' best songs.

  • Also reminds me of City Boy.

  • Sounds like Big Star or Raspberries

  • that's an interesting comparison. i love both those bands also.

  • maybe not so much the Raspberries.. It's a pretty beatlesq melody tho :) Big Star in a way of this sort of odd mystique.. Are you into this song?

    VIVA KISS!!!!!

  • KODIbassplayer, this is not a pretty good song! It is brilliant! I love it! Gene's vocals is just beautifull and mindblowing!

  • "im 93 your 16"

  • quite an age difference...

  • Just goes to show the Dinosaur jr sound is actually with us since 1974.

  • one of my favorite kiss songs ever. I dedicated this song when i broke up with my girl.

  • to who ever posted the comment asking for "Got To Choose", i am sorry i removed you but i will be posting that, and almost all the songs from hotter than hell.

  • your thinking of the melvin's version

  • Thanks KODIbassplayer, for post the original version "Goin Blind". She is the best.

  • your damn str8 , and it also my favorite kiss song. a very great unforgettable love song

  • Oh, i never herd it do you have a video of it?

  • No he did not, he was like just, born he couldn't have

  • Good job..my favorite song from Hotter Than Hell.

  • thank you

  • aww it said 999 and im like zomg 1000th view!! but u commented 46 min ago saying its already at 1000...o well i love this song

  • thank you for 1000 views, 6/6/08

  • Wonderful. Beloved song

  • my favorite KISS tune
