  • which amount to more than 3 Trillion Bbls of oil - far more than the reserves in the Middle-East - and we haven't even addressed the vast oil fields that are believed to exist in Russia. If we allowed Private oil companies to explore and drill, we'd find more oil than we'd know what to do with. The only reason Chomsky seems correct is because so many governments, including ours, have been prohibiting exploration and drilling.

  • Chomsky is such an inveterate liar. One of the reasons new discoveries 'might' be declining is because governments, like our own, will not let oil companies explore and drill on government land - which is 85% of the western USA. Nevertheless, in the last two years there have been two massive oil discoveries, one in the Gulf of Mexico (which our nitwit-in-chief has put a moratorium on exploration and drilling) and off the east coast of Brazil. When you add in tar sands and oil shale

  • I BERRIED MY DOG BACK IN 1975 , I AM GOING TO DRILL A STRAW SIZE HOLE INSERT A STRAW IN IT WITH A LITTLE PUMP AND EXTRACT THE OIL IT MADE , HOW MUCH OIL DO YOU THINK IT MADE ?

  • Wake up America! It's time... "THE REVOLUTION HAS STARTED"

    Read “Common Sense 3.1” at ( revolution2.osixs.org )

  • @MillyVanillification nice comment

  • you have to consider that when it's said, an oil well is done empty, that this refers to the exploitable oil in the well, that is to say our present technology only allows us to remove 40% to 60% MAX, out of any oil well, so 40 to 60% of "All" wells still remains un - tapped, NOT Removed, so consider we make technological leaps to extract this remaining oil, we would have no shortages for 100 / 150 years.++++

    Thom in Scotland .

  • Bring it on! It's gonna hurt when Mama brings out her broom and starts sweeping us out with the rest of the trash we've insulted her with, chief item among it being petroleum. We can either sit here wringing our hands in our "victimhood," or we can respond proactively to this overdue challenge by learning how to garden organically, and VOLUNTARILY reducing our own "dependence" on this vile substance by getting rid of that damn gas-sucking car you're so addicted to. There's your first assignment.

  • Before the economic crisis the usa used 20 million bbls of oil a day,,now we use 18 million bbls. a day .The world uses 80 mill. per day..the world needs to stop using our oil, lol, then we would have plenty of oil,,,nat. gas is the future of Americas trans. fuel..the govt. better get w/the prgram or its Solyent Green time.

  • @zeno57

You idiot! You're basically saying the rest of the world should give up oil so that the USA can have it all! You greedy evil bastard. Don't you care about the future generations? We all need to give up oil, ESPECIALLY the USA!!! Don't be a waste of space by coming out with shit like that, try being intelligent like the other people on here and address the reality of the situation. Stupidity will just insult people. Don't bother writing back your comment showed you're stupid.

  • @Gaznugget I think he was being sarcastic. He did put a "lol" in the middle of his statement. Although if he did mean it then he's either a monster or completely mentally fucktarded

  • @redgeorgieredgeorgie

The trouble is that there are so many people out there who will defend this oil world until it's death (like this monster) and I think the people who know about peak oil and want to change are in the minority. It's really scary and makes me ashamed to be a human being. I feel guilty everytime I step out my front door with my little cousins Lucy and Sarah (aged 5 and 7) because all I see is a species (Humans) living like parasites, literally ruining their futures.

  • @Gaznugget The world we live in is pretty terrible. Maybe one day we'll realise what we've been doing to ourselves and the planet and actually create a society that is sustainable and fair. Sadly I think the only way that's going to happen is if the collapses. Environmental, Economic and social. Just have to sit back and wait. (And practice on the "I told you so" line.)

  • You are extremely wise, do you know that? I believe even in this world if you manage to get straight A's in school, go to university, and become a doctor or a business CEO for example, that's just being smart. But being wise in my opinion is a higher standard of intelligence that recognises what is truly important in this world. You can get a real jerk of an intelligent person who drives SUVs and doesn't care about people, but wisdom is much more important and vital especially with this issue.

  • @Gaznugget AH ! MY SISTER, EMBRACE HER AND YOU'LL RECEIVE HONER AND SHE WILL PLACE A CHAIN OF GRACE UPON YOUR NECK !

  • @Gaznugget you are assuming wisdom is synonyms with empathy. I agree with you.

  • @NegativeNick

Thank you. I just know for a fact that wisdom and intelligence can be 2 very different things. My grandmother for example has both great wisdom, and decent intelligence (she was a teacher of 4 to 5 launguages) yet my aunt (grandmother's daughter) has more intelligence (she's a great doctor) and although I love her dearly and respect her a lot, I believe she lacks wisdom, but then agan, so do most people. My grandmother is the wisest person I've ever known.

  • @Gaznugget Huh? Being a teacher of 4 to 5 languages doesn't mean you're intelligent? I think learning languages is probably just as hard as learning math and biology and whatever else you need to know to be a doctor. For most people, learning five languages would require great dedication, perseverence in practicing and studying them daily, spending large parts of your life immersing yourself into other cultures...

  • @Ollie9402

"Huh? Being a teacher of 4 to 5 languages doesn't mean you're intelligent?"

Of course it does. If you'd have read my comment properly I said "if you manage to get straight A's in school, go to university, and become a doctor or a business CEO for example, that's just being smart"

Maybe I shouldn't have put "just" like it's nothing, but there you see I meant smart the same as intelligence. The point of my comment though was to sepearate intelligence from wisdom ok?

    :)

  • Oh and braindrain3 you pathetic coward, I went to your channel and it is a fake account where you can lash out with your petty anger at people who are smarter than you. You say I am shameful you fucking hypocrit! Hiding behind a fake account is the lowest form of cowardice besides the occasional stalking that happens on this venue. Go wank yourself somewhere else you dirty godless heathen, you the hater of the very Creator who gives you life. You arrogant slob enjoy your self made hell!

  • its funny how this is 1998 and everything hes talking about seems to have come true

  • @BloodTypeRagu comedy then tragedy, comedy then tragedy.

  • Haha, Chomsky’s sarcasm is classic regarding the 1998 attack on Sudan’s pharmaceutical plant:

“I suppose that if there was a terrorist attack that had destroyed half of US pharmaceutical supplies it might have made it to the back pages of the newspapers”.

  • Iraq is predicted to be able to produce 12 million barrels a day by 2016. Dick Cheney is a solid believer in peak oil, as everyone should be, stop lying to yourselves if you think its some kind of hoax.

Thanks for posting this. 1998. wow. I was still in high school and wish I knew about PO then. US military says 2015 we'll start to see a shortfall in OPEC excess supply. Hang on to something.

  • There is always light in the dark. How can you deny anything of what he is saying. But keep reading WSJ and watching CNN they are the ones with the truth. Wake up people

  • Peak oil is a fraud and Noam is a shillsky not a chompsky. And, to think they fed me his garbage at UCSD as if it were cutting edge social criticism.

  • @77GSlinger. So you think that oil is infinite then? If so you are living in lala-land. Or are they finite, but limitations in supply are just not imminent? If they are not imminent, then the most "optimistic" of projections is that they will plateau in about 30 years, an extremely narrow window to make the changes needed without chaos. Google this: 2010 Joint Operating Environment; for a recent report from military analysts, they think we've already plateaued. Or are they also shillskys?

  • @polypus74 I never said oil is infinite! So, no I am not living in lal-la land as you say. I heard those same projections 30 years ago. We were supposed to be out of oil by now. It's called fake scarcity? Do you think you can understand that part of it? Military analysts freaking LOL! Oil is abiotic, do a little research in the subject and you can upgrade your belief system very quickly. Sounds like you are operating from a corporate/military mind set, which has reached it's end on this planet!

  • @77GSlinger

oil is abioltic!? right and it is extracted by unicorns in a candy cane forest. LOL, ok, conversation over. too much alex jones perhaps?

    > Sounds like you are operating from a corporate/military mind set

quite the opposite. unfortunately however, it has not reached it's end on this planet, not by a long shot.

  • @77GSlinger

    > I heard those same projections 30 years ago. We were supposed to be out of oil by now. It's called fake scarcity?

the claim was not that we would be out of oil, at least if made by anybody who understands peak oil (which you clearly don't), but rather that demand would outstrip supply. if as many oil geologists (you know those people who don't believe in fairy tales like abiotic oil), are correct and we have in fact already plateaued, then guess what, the claims were right.

  • @polypus74 the claim was widely advertised on the idiot box in the 70's I used to watch it when I was young and I remember being assaulted with tons of this kind of bullshit, especially when they were gouging us at the pumps and having to wait hours for a tank of gas in huge lines. Peak oil did not happen and oil is abiotic, it's created by the Earth not rotting dinosaurs and vegetation, try educating yourself instead of parroting your master's slave paradigm publicly! Scarcity is artificial!

  • @77GSlinger

so you're saying that people were saying stupid things on TV, that is a) not in the least surprising b) completely irrelevant to weather peak oil is factual or not.

you think that oil is abiotic and you ask me to educate myself? are you also into creation "science" by any chance? i guess i shouldn't expect much from the youtube comments section. over and out.

  • @polypus74 I said in the 70's this crap was dumped on humanity via the idiot box and corporate owned mind control system of schools and colleges.

And, what are you going to tell me, that life is due to random mutation ala leonard susskind and his snidely ilk? I am not a christian if that is what you are trolling for. I teach Russellian Science which is "Creator Centered" Sacred Geometry, unlike the godless atheistis and agnostic psyentists of quackademia and their ad hoc guesses.

  • @77GSlinger its funny how those that are hostile towards "athiests" and "agnostics" on youtube or those that are open minded are always the most vile, inconsiderate and full of hate especially when professing that they are true believers. I guess you are probably just christian or catholic and not christ like. Shameful.

  • @Braindrain3 I am not a believer you porr shameful soul. Have you no shame for comming in and judging me for my comments with others? Who are you? What the hell do you have to say of any importance? I am hostile to idiocy and mind control garbage. atheism, agnosticsm and religionism are all bullshit. If you are an atheist your life is miserable, because it is a lie. Your entire criticism of me is as worthless as your beliefs. It's called ad hominem attack proving what a fucking schumck you are!

  • @77GSlinger. Jeez, oil production in US did peak at that time. No nutcase would've predicted that Saudi Arabian output would've peaked that early. The shift to Middle Eastern sources didn't just occur today, and it's likely that output will reach its peak within the states in the near future. Natural gas ought to have a much higher upside, on the other hand. However, oil production is around 80 mbpd, but it's going to rise especially when India (never mind China) invest $1.5tr in infrastructure.

  • @C0Y0TE5

Generally speaking, I don't think linguist is expert at distorting language, you're thinking of PR trade & lawyers :) Not saying Chomsky doesn't distort things, but him being a linguist has little to do with it.

Not being an expert, I find his mode of discourse very easy to follow, and it's valuable if you recognize his biases which are pretty obvious if not explicitly stated...it's valuable because he questions & often successfully exposes vastly more prevalent propaganda!!

  • He is predicting the increase in war in the gulf, ie Iraq and Afghanistan...brilliant.

  • A brilliant historian - social analyst !

  • We're getting closer.....
