I think I have this, not sure, it's not very noticeable and it's only on my arms a little, anyway it bothers me as i care about looks. Right yeah guys, hate to break it to you but there is no cure, however you can get a tan, this helps, and warm weather also helps it appear less noticeable, so just wait for summer..
Please try this... it really helps my daughter. Mix E45 lotion with a couple of drops of tea tree essential oil...we noticed a big improvement almost overnight. You can get the tea tree oil on ebay/or most chemists and the e45 lotion is available everywhere. We tried everything else and this is the only thing we have found that really works. I really hope that this can also help others who suffer from this condition.
What works even better are acne creams thats contains Benzoyl Peroxid 10% - like Clearsill and OXY. The scrub is nice- but the cream is *the main thing*.
There's also Neutrogena's "on the spot" - but that one only contains 2.5%.
I hope this works, but on another note I had a really tough time watching the video. You keep playing with your hair so much that it is overly distracting.
did it make the appearance any better? not just the bumps but like the redness and stuff.. that's what i mostly care about.. i hate not being able to wear shorts or tangtops because people comment on it...
I have had kp for many years, I thought they were acne for the longest time but after googling it I found out it was kp. I came across your video and it made me am happy and hopeful! I am going to try this and pray to god that it will work lol. Thank you so much!
ALL OVER MY LEGS... prom is coming, there is this really pretty knee length dres i have my eyes on but i dont want to wear tights under it, i hate my legs :(
I went to my doctor and he prescribed me a lactate lotion. I use it every night and within two weeks i saw the bumps going away. Its been 8 months now and they are gone!!
I had this on the back of my upper arms and the doctor said it was basically Vitamin A deficiency, because my body was unable to efficiently convert beta-carotene to retinol (Vitamin A) also known as Carotenosis. I also had yellowish skin around my eyes. Turned I had euthyroid lab results (normal), but with thyroid antibodies present. Both my mother and grandmother have Hashimoto's, so lo and behold - after few weeks on thyroid hormones my bumps and yellow skin cleared-out.
Omg girl, you exfoliated and moisturized...exactly what google 99.9% of websites said to do... Moisturize is the key... But what Mexico weather have to do with your "discovery" lol ..
oh my god i love you! i am so subscribing, ive had chicken skin for years and i dont wear short sleeved tops or shorts because of it but luckily i had both your products and it makes a difference instantly
The reason why your keratosis pilaris went away in Mexico was because of the humity. The more humid the better. When it is dry and cold it gets worse.
Guys I need advice. I have KP on my backarms and forearms and in gym class I have to wear short sleve shirts... I went out and bought the supplies for the suggested treatment here, but I'm not sure how it'll work, as I have a serious case... xThanks
@morgmarz The thing about there being no cure is true. You can however manage the symptoms even though the underlying condition remains. Any product with salicylic acid will at least reduce the appearance even in relatively bad cases. Shower gels like neutrogena worked reasonably well for me (3% salicylic acid). You can also combine this with an abrasive brush/lufa (sp) to allow the acid to penetrate and denature the keratin protein better.
I have KP. i've had it my whole life without knowing. I FINALLY went to see a dermatologist about it. They prescribed my Retin-A. He told me that there is no cure, ONLY TREATMENTS. The only why to treat & flatten out the skin is my CHEMICAL EXFOLIATION. The face wash she uses chemically exfoliates via 2% Salicylic Acid.... I used my Retin-A and saw results in literally ONE WEEK... So again, CHEMICAL EXFOLIATION is the key!
i hav keratosis pilaris...IT STINKS!!!! i hav a uniform at school so i cant wear a jacket and i wear a litle sweater veryday that looks really stupid just to hid my arms. sadly i cant hide my face i have it on my cheeks too. im tired of being so self consius this condition ha forced me to hide in a shel. i am so trying this like if u want to grt rid of your chipcken skin

@audreyjoy051998 yeah i have the same problem, i keep scratching them. I scratch them, hoping that they will go away, but I've found out that it only makes it worse.

@LadyPennyroyal, you can try dry skin brushing. I personally haven't tried it bust I heard it helps remove toxins from the skin and can make the skin softer and smoother. All u half to do is get a natural bristle body brush and brush your skin before you shower. I plan on trying this technique along with the Clearasil. Hopefully it works.
I've had this since i was 12 and I'm 16 now and it's pretty bad on my arms so I'm definetly going to try this out! Can you make a updated video on this though -- has this worked over the past year?
hii :D well umm i went to walmart and couldnt find the clearasil ultra exfoliating scrub so i got the clearasil ultra daily face wash and the rapid action acne scrub heh will it work if i used one of those or no?? please help :(
I am so trying this! Just today i saw my arms at school in the mirror and got disgusted.. Im usually a person who is all like embrace your flaws ect... but if it gets to the point where i dont want to wear a tshirt to school then we have a problem...
Glycolic acid is a great chemical exfoliator for KP, Alpha Hydrox makes a 10% in a gel form which I have used and have seen pretty great results. Salicylic is also a chemical exfoliant which is probably the active ingredient in the clearasil scrub. I personally prefer chemical exfoliation because I find that the results are more even but you still have to use something like a loofah to remove all the dead cells. Remember exfoliate and moisturize! Great vid btw.
I have KP on my arms and my legs. It usually goes away in the summer but it's REALLY bad in the winter, even when I moisturize :\ definitely will be trying these products. thank you so much for sharing!
Hey guys! I heard of this product called "KP Duty" at Sephora! I haven't tried it yet but I just wanted to let everyone know. And I wondered if anyone had tried it?
I have literally had k.p. Long as i can remember... Seen so many doctors, one thought it was scabies. -.-; nothing seems to work but i'll try this. Mine is the worst i've seen, reddish, pimply and ALL over my arms. I have a problem with picking at it too. My bf doesn't get it either, "if it doesn't hurt you who cares"
Hi, my daughter sufferas from it and we went to see a dermatologist who said the only!!! cure for it is to take care of the roughness in the morning and the dryness at night. He prescribed over-the-counter meds lac hydrin in the AM and Uremol in the PM. If you apply it it will take care of the KP, you stop the treatment it will re-appear. Hope this helps.
@nationalvixen or anybody out there willing to help :) ...what type of kp do you have? is it rubra (the reddish acne-like one)?? ... does the treatment work for that type of kp???
i guess there is some sort of laser surgery u can get for it..my friend from high school got it and i think he said he had to get it like every 6 months. i remember asking a dermatologist about it. this was years ago but i think it was a grand to have the procedure done. might be able to cut the cost in half with decent insurance.
started this 5 days ago, seems to have some results on the back of my upper arms, but no results on the forearms which is the area I want to cure. I will keep you updated
i have k.p , ive had it for some years and never noiced it until i went to high school last year , ive been to doctors a few times and they have booked me an apointment at the hospitil to see a person (cant remember the name of the person) but i got my letter the other day and my apointment is next year in january , im gonna have to try this , cos i really want it to go away :) hopefully it works
I have had KP all my life, im currently 14. It is all over my arms and legs and its bumpy and bright red patches its disgusting. Tomorow I will be going to the supermarket and getting those two products, I will try to make a video on how its been going.
Thankyouu soo much for this going to try it, had chicken skin since i was born really bad and everyone tells me about it have it all over legs and arms its a pain! :S Thankyouu :) x
Thank you! I'm french and all the doctors I've seen said that there's nothing to do, just deal with it... I have to try your treatment now, and I'm lucky, all the creams you use are the same in France! (sorry for my english... -_-')
Dunno if this helps you, but visiting Florida would make it go away for me. Intense tanning happens. Lots of sun, super humidity in the air and sea salt exposure.
I try the beach back home in NYC and tanning; nothing happens. While NYC is still pretty humid, it's not as humid as Florida. I never tan as dark as I do in FL either.
I spoke to a naturalist recently who said she had it - it went away by changing her diet. She used a book called "Perfect Health the Natural Way" by Mary-Ann Shearer.
Hey guys, right now im trying with honey as an exfoliant, clearasil, vaseline and a gluten-free diet... thumbs up if you want me to let you know if it works in 3 or 4 weeks :-)
@topiringote Did it work? I've been trying OP's remedy for about 3 weeks so far, and nothing. It could be because cocoa butter is a comedogenic lotion, but that's just my guess.
i ignored my bumps for about 2 years now, figured they were stubborn breakouts from sweating during my workouts. now that i know what they are, i'm determined to get rid of them! i wait until the end of a hot shower when my pores are open and i use Tree Hut Sugar Scrub (from Ulta) and follow with your suggestion of Cocoa Butter lotion. i scrub the s**t out of them. Not roughly, but just take my time to cover the whole area. after just 3 days i'm seeing so much improvement! thanks for your video!
I have a sort of theory that people with KP have better hair than other people. I'm in cosmetology school and people who have this always have really great hair. It makes since, your hair is made of keratin and KP is like a side effect of over producing keratin.
@ItsCJD Well then i wish that were true b.c my hair sucks ass! its getting really thin and alot of split ends and has always been a really slow grower :(
@mushroomthe4th If you heat style it a lot or color it a lot that can definitely cause damage. If you do some deep conditioners and take a supplement called Biotin it will probably help a lot. And definitely use a heat protectant when you blow dry or straighten you hair, it'll help prevent split ends.
@ItsCJD well, keratosis pilaris is excess keratin protein that is stored in the fat of your arms. keratin protein is found in your hair, so maybe we have a lot of it there too....which makes it nicer! just a theory
@verushajoseph I'm not a doctor. That was only a theory because of my own experience with KP and my observations of clients I've had. I would suggest that you see a doctor because there might be a reason why your having hair loss that might be serious.
@ItsCJD That is kind of true, my nails grow quite long and fast, i dontt know about my hair, but even if i use heat (Which i admit, i do alot) it's still shiny, thick, soft and split end free.
I KNOW THIS IS GOING TO SOUND WEIRD BUT IT WORKS TRUST ME ONE NIGHT I WAS BORED SO I DECIDED TO TRY SPERM AND IT WORKS IDK HOW BUT IT DOES NOW I CAN FINALLY WEAR SHORT SLEEF SHIRTS IM SOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS I PUT IT ON AT NIGHT AND LET TILL THE MORNING THEN I WASH MY ARMS
Thank you soooo much for this video!!! Im 14 and I'm ALWAYS sooo self concious about my KP i have a really bad case of it, i have it on my arms and a little on my face and a little on my thighs but the more id try to do for it, for the last two years everything except for tanning made it worse. When i get a tan you cant see mine but its because i have a very pale skintone and it's always irratated so it gets REALLY RED. Thank you SO MUCH going to try it soon:D
omg!!! THATS WHAT IT'S CALLE DIVE BEEN WONDERING SINCE I WAS 5YEARS OLD! I THINK I GOT IT WHE NI WAS 5 WILL IT GO AWAY? it's symptomless i know i dont really mind it but kinda want it to go away.
I use pumice, gently glide it over my skin once or twice (over doing it will take off your skin) I then used a scrub (st.ives apricot medicated which has sacyclic acid too) and then I used a non oil based moisturizer... like oil of olay face moisturizer... it keep it from getting irritated. I am 27, have had it for as long as I can remember, the pumice really helps. Tanning beds seem to help too but they're not good for you, so just regular sun tanning is better.
@XxmollyXoliviaxX hi! i read your previous comment and you said that her method works. did you also use the clearasil ultra exfoliating scrub? or the acne clearing scrub? because that's the only one i can find =/
Thankyou I hate hiding my arms and my doctor prescribed me with some 'Dermol' cream but it was rubbish :( I will try your treatment and see if it works :) I also want to say your partner is lucky your gorgeous and ps I'm from the UK ( incase dermol is alien to you )
I've had KP most of my life, and it has really bothered me from time to time, but it has gotten better with coconut oil and dry scrubbing. Now, my biggest problem is that I HAVE BEEN PICKING IT throughout my teen years and I can honestly say my arms has more scarring in them than normal skin. I was being very thoughtless and stupid, but I have gotten over it, and it's looking better and better every year.
@selfironic hi ^_^ umm this may seem random but in my opinion I think I couple of scars are a whole lot easier to deal with than the Keratosis pilaris ^_^ But I did hear that if you try putting vitamin E onto your scars the color would reduce a bit ^_^
@KyoKyofan If it only were "a couple of scars", but my arms and legs are covered with brown/white scarring and hyper pigmentation. It looks nasty, combined with the KP I still suffer from. What I'm saying is, picking the bumps is the last thing you should do to your skin. But the good thing is, the scars do fade over time, but the hyper pigmentation really doesn't...
Ive had this on my arms forever too. I live in iowa, so the long sleeves arent as hard to do, but im also a girl. Its hard seeing all those pretty dresses that you cant wear, and having to explain to your friends that you cant buy certian clothes. Im not sure whats worse, explaining your skin or explaining tge long sleeves. I have found something that might help. Its no cure, but it helped with the bumps. Its the Weightless Body Treatment from paulascho
Eh I have this on my arms.. not a big deal.. My skin is naturally tanned so you cant even tell.. only when you touch the area.. I'm just gonna live with it.. :p
Everyone who has KP needs to chill and should know it isn't curable and only could be treated to make it look less red and/or bumpy but the scarring is always going to be there. I have KP on my face, arms, back, and thighs...I've learned to deal with it mainly because it isn't that big of a deal to me people have worse skin conditions. Treat it if you must but just know it will never go away.
This condition is ruining my life. I always have to wear long sleeves because i have a lot of redness and some bumps on my forearms and i live in SOUTH FLORIDA so Imagine trying to always cover up when it's so hot. Ugh, It's crazy.. Especially when your a guy. If anyone has some REAL WAYS to get rid of redness, or at least cover it up.. Please respond to this comment, thanks.
der really is no cure 4 dis but it can b treated. I hav it on my arms, back nd chest. my doctor said dat we shud dry da area of our skin so it wil peel off den jst put lotion 2 smoothen again. It's a follicular disorder so if u want it gone 4ever den hav a permanent hair removal. It wil cost u tho
You can use Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (It should be in a dark blue bottle with a white/light blue label). Rub it on the KP area and leave it there for 15 minutes and then wash it off--Do that for a couple of days--the results were quick for me. It will make your skin much softer and smoother and takes away the redness.
i have had KP all my life from like the age of 2 and so ive tried everything and nothing works. so im going to try this and i will let you know in the next month. but where did you get the exfoliator and the lotion? and also does the lotion contain oil because sometimes that makes me get more bumps cause it clogs up my pores. please answer! i feel like i can only wear long sleeves.
I've been following the comments on this video after I first watched it last June, I started doing this treatment around June 26. Within a week of doing the treatment every other day, I noticed a reduction in bumps. It's August 10 and I now have clear spots on my arms for the first time in over 20 years! I've had this since I was about 9 and felt that I had to "accept it". Although they are not completely gone yet, I'm so happy with the results! Thank you so much (as for the haters, I'm an RN)!
so basically you can apply the product all over you body in the shower? and in the beginning, were you using it everyday in the shower, and then gradually switched to every 2-3 days?
Thank you for sharing what works for you! I'm going to try it, and if it doesn't work for me I WON"T be back BAWL-BABYING about it!! If it does work, I will let you know. :o)
You should always say at the start of your video. TO ASK YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU LISTEN TO ME.. because you are messing with peoples lives. Its a shame. its sad and you have a responsibilty to tell ppl to talk to their doctor first before taking your advice. People think they can belive anything online.. its sad to take advantage of them like that.. give them hope and let them down lol.. my doc was MAD AS HELL when I told him I saw this video and listened to it! He said NEVER EVER DO THAT!
Sun gets rid of it COMPLETELY for a while. It only comes back when you're no longer exposed to sun on a regular basis. This is what I have found frome experience AND what numerous dermatologists have told me (:
do you have to have the mositurizer for KP ?

Glycolic acid is a great chemical exfoliator for KP, Alpha Hydrox makes a 10% in a gel form which I have used and have seen pretty great results. Salicylic is also a chemical exfoliant which is probably the active ingredient in the clearasil scrub. I personally prefer chemical exfoliation because I find that the results are more even but you still have to use something like a loofah to remove all the dead cells. Remember exfoliate and moisturize! Great vid btw.

@livia1881 I got my Alpha Hydrox at Ulta, but I have seen it at Walgreens, too.

ThePurplepinch 4 months ago
i guess there is some sort of laser surgery u can get for it..my friend from high school got it and i think he said he had to get it like every 6 months. i remember asking a dermatologist about it. this was years ago but i think it was a grand to have the procedure done. might be able to cut the cost in half with decent insurance.

She used a book called "Perfect Health the Natural Way" by Mary-Ann Shearer.

i ignored my bumps for about 2 years now, figured they were stubborn breakouts from sweating during my workouts. now that i know what they are, i'm determined to get rid of them! i wait until the end of a hot shower when my pores are open and i use Tree Hut Sugar Scrub (from Ulta) and follow with your suggestion of Cocoa Butter lotion. i scrub the s**t out of them.

ItsCJD 5 months ago 24
@ItsCJD Well then i wish that were true b.c my hair sucks ass! its getting really thin and alot of split ends and has always been a really slow grower :(
mushroomthe4th 5 months ago
@mushroomthe4th If you heat style it a lot or color it a lot that can definitely cause damage. If you do some deep conditioners and take a supplement called Biotin it will probably help a lot. And definitely use a heat protectant when you blow dry or straighten you hair, it'll help prevent split ends.
ItsCJD 5 months ago
@ItsCJD: I have thought this too - I have KP but have great hair!

INicoline 4 months ago
@ItsCJD TOTALLY WHAT I THINK TOO!!
12saramore12 4 months ago
@ItsCJD well, keratosis pilaris is excess keratin protein that is stored in the fat of your arms. keratin protein is found in your hair, so maybe we have a lot of it there too....which makes it nicer! just a theory
12saramore12 4 months ago
@12saramore12 Hmmm... so wouldn't the cure be to lose weight if it's in the fat?
ItsCJD 4 months ago
@ItsCJD no, I know a few people that aren't overweight that have it. everyone has fat in their arms

@ItsCJD Hey, I suffer from KP but also have sever hairloss. I don't understand how that works hey.
verushajoseph 2 months ago
@verushajoseph I'm not a doctor. That was only a theory because of my own experience with KP and my observations of clients I've had. I would suggest that you see a doctor because there might be a reason why your having hair loss that might be serious.
ItsCJD 2 months ago
@ItsCJD That is kind of true, my nails grow quite long and fast, i dontt know about my hair, but even if i use heat (Which i admit, i do alot) it's still shiny, thick, soft and split end free.

When i get a tan you cant see mine but its because i have a very pale skintone and it's always irratated so it gets REALLY RED. Thank you SO MUCH going to try it soon:D

I was being very thoughtless and stupid, but I have gotten over it, and it's looking better and better every year.
selfironic 6 months ago
@selfironic hi ^_^ umm this may seem random but in my opinion I think I couple of scars are a whole lot easier to deal with than the Keratosis pilaris ^_^ But I did hear that if you try putting vitamin E onto your scars the color would reduce a bit ^_^
KyoKyofan 6 months ago

Treat it if you must but just know it will never go away.

der really is no cure 4 dis but it can b treated.

Sun gets rid of it COMPLETELY for a while. It only comes back when you're no longer exposed to sun on a regular basis. This is what I have found frome experience AND what numerous dermatologists have told me (:
