okay, I set everything up exactly like this. I have an old school PS3 and a new Vizio 42 inch 3D TV. I have all the right cables, but when I try to set up a game like Arkham City or Uncharted 3, I set the TV to 3D Sensio and the whole image is stretched and zoomed in. Plus I tried putting in Tron Legacy 3D and it told me my device did not support 3D. Can anyone help me with this? I tried the Vizio Tech support and even the PS3 network forum and no one can give me an answer.

@ttozydlo1 I figured it out. And I feel so stupid now that I did figure it out. When you go to the display settings, and it asks you what size your screen is, just hit the X button to confirm the setting. Don't just click to the right to the next screen, you have to click X on that screen so it confirms the setting. After that it should display the various 3D resolutions that are now available for the system. Yeah, it's THAT simple. I still feel stupid. LMAO

@jokamutta Because what a 3D-TV actually does is displaying two images. There are two methods: Active 3D-TV's refresh the image twice as fast and uses active shutter glasses to create the 3D effect. Passive 3D-TV's display both images at once, at the expence of image resolution, and glasses with polarized lenses are used to create the 3D effect.

@NRGEORGIADIS I think it works on both, but can't say for sure. I'm not very good at this stuff, only know what I told jokamutta. Ask on a tech forum or something. The difference between the two methods lies in the way the images are presented in 3D. The data transferred from the PS3 to the 3D-TV should be the same, and even if it wasn't Sony have probably implemented support for it (passive).

@NRGEORGIADIS That was a messy answer.Sorry.To clear it up:

1) It certainly works with active, have one myself.

2) After a quick search it looks like it works with passive as well.

Remember that active 3D (because of the shutter glasses) can cause more strain on the eyes for some people, including me, so for long gaming sessions passive might be considered a better option even with the resolution penalty. If you aske me, though, 3D gaming isn't THAT great. It's cool,but not a must.

@NRGEORGIADIS PS3 works with passive .I have the LG 47LW450U 47. Only issues Is with Tumble, as was unplayable in 3D due to crosstalk but even some active TV's have the same issue apparently. Played kill Zone, Resistance 3…Crysis and Wipeout HD are amazing in 3D. Also not had any issues with watching 3D movies on PS3. With passive 3D LG Cinema TV’s all you have is a slight resolution loss but cant say I noticed. Just when the game is 720p I noticed. Passive much kinder on eyes.

@octoman511 No Different.. The link between ps3 and tv are the same it's just the glasses that are different. I have the lg55wl5600 and use my ps3 for 3d. However I have a 3d blu ray player seperately because you don't get master audio and true HD from ps3 while in 3d. They don't tell you that here.

@Fuzziez10709 Just hold the ps3 power button till it beeps again. It will dumb down the resolution to 480i. From there, if you're plugged in to HDMI it'll prompt you moments later if you'd like to use HDMI and then you'll be able to set up the resolution automatically or manually.

You only need a 3d hdtv. You don't need the active shutter glasses, polarized glasses also work.

Make sure your 3d hdtv has a hdmi 1.4(a) input (to do the handshake with the ps3 and send it EDID that it can use 3d) and has a minimum of 120 hz (60hz per eye) INPUT. Then you will be "futureproof" of getting 1080p/60 in the future, instead of getting 1080p/30 3d.

I would go for a polarized 3d hdtv (if viewing angle is not your concern), just like in the cinema :-)

basically any 3d tv should hook up fine to the ps3, mine is a sony hooked up with an old hdmi cable, we carry vizio 3d tvs where i work and the newest model is very vivid and is a passive set, easier on your eyes i think since it doesnt have to drop the fps to 60 per eye. also my sony has an internal sensor so i didnt need a set top sensor

Anywyays, Ive seen some reviews that do mention 3D LGs connected to PS3s, as well as Vizios, but I cannot tell if every 3D model does, if you picked a model look at its user reviews on walmart, amazon, best buy, etc. Thats how I found several users that mentioned connecting it. I have seen ps3 in 3d in an LG 23 inch monitor though, the one priced at 350 or something.
