  • Dont know about the battery one but aluminum does work but works faster with boiling water it quickens the chemical reaction

  • For the most comprehensive instructions on silver care, follow the advice from silversmith Jeff Herman at Herman Silver Restoration & Conservation.

  • Now that was quite educational. Thank you!

  • wich works better

  • 2 of my favorite channels in collaboration! Brilliant!

  • this is so awesome! thanks so much!

  • lol the jigsaw joke below lol

  • hello jeff. i wanna play a game.... jig-saw from saw rofl??!

  • hey what should i do with the spots that tuned dark after i touched them with the electrode? thanks

  • wow i am amazed well done.. thank you

  • the proportions of baking soda and salt don't really matter...put enough in the water so that it dissolves...there doesn't need to be undissolved salt and soda at the bottom of the water...also the reaction goes much faster if the water is hot...a lot of silver tarnish is sulfur from the air and fingers...this sulfer is deposited in solid form on the silver...when you put it into the solution the sulfur leaves in a gaseous state...you can actually smell it coming off really tarnished silver.

  • What is the recipe for the solution. Please specify how many parts water, salt and baking soda. Thank you

  • Question. Is the the silver oxide leaving the bar or is the silver being seperated from the oxygen? Would be a helpful answer thanks.

  • Im wondering did you test this? Because i went to Nurd's original video. And some one posted a video response and he said he was having some trouble with it. (Once the tin foil entered it started to fizz.) So did this ever happen to you?

  • Extremely usefull!!

  • very cool, something anyone can do.

  • That's cool.

  • Wow Wow WOOOW

  • Four letters: WOW

  • dude that are 3 letters

  • oh really?

well then i got 3 words for you: hush up!

  • whahahaha XD that are 2 words

  • awesomee

  • would that work with silver bracelets, silver plated jewelry, and sterling silver?

  • yep

  • sweet thanks

    :)

  • wow, what a jerk

  • Science is amazing.

  • nice!!!!

  • Ultra cool vid. Thanks for posting!

  • Won't that short the battery?

  • saw this when it first came out :D

  • cool. I'll keep that in mind.

  • wow.......lol.

  • haha jeff, i see you took my suggestion

    ;p

  • Yeah....insanely cool.

  • thats insane! im gonna try that!

  • That was sweet.

  • i bet these guys alter their voices because they make research chems

  • I think they had an experiment go wrong a long time ago, and it messed up their voices - Not only that, but now they look like Joker!

  • it puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again. lol

  • can this method be used to fix brass?

  • XD i saw this a day ago

  • my silver turns a light shade of yellow. any ideas?

  • do it again with a fresh solution, if needed polish it up with some flitz or any other metal polish

  • @cutlerylover also, i tried this with the foil and it didnt do as good as i wanted, so i tried it with the battery and the foil and the battery just turned it black! neg to the silver, positive to the foil and it went dark, it was a clean solution and everything, silver and foil werent touching ((((

  • @lobzdik it says to use copper not foil, dimwit!

  • @SuperMaster1985 maybe you should watch the whole video and listen to the words that the man says, ignorant yank

  • Cool....I love it.

Can you tell me the ratio of Salt & Baking Soda please?

    5*

  • lol, he always talks like that, prolly a computer changed voice

  • nerd rage has some amazing videos, go check em out.

  • I'm guessing this doesn't work for iron aswell?

  • oh iv seen this guy b4. i was finding how you make flash powder

  • Ive been lookin for something on here just like that......thank you verry much.

  • That first method is how I clean my stirling cutlery. it does work very well. Good video demo.

  • how coooll!!!!!!!!!

  • haha that voice was weird, was that just somebody else or done by audio editing?

  • Incredible! 5 stars!

  • i just thought of this question: is there a certain proportion to the baking soda/salt/water solution that optimizes the reaction?

  • thats amazing!

  • Outstanding!

  • @ZippyGaloo

You may be thinking about toning, which creates a colorful patina on some coins, rather than simply a dark tarnish. Google: "Toned coins" for examples of these and some pricing. =^[.]^=

  • thats crazy

  • Amazing! I have to try this!

  • thanks for mirroring this vid, cutlerylover, i would have never known about it if you had not, i got a silver cross from mexico last summer and its starting to tarnish, this will come in handy :D

  • dude that is WAY better then the silver polish i have been using to take the tarnish off, thank you!

  • @Swanton4rLife So it's water salt and baking daos? lol

  • NurdRage blocked me because I requested a video on a well known chemical that can be used as an oxidizer for explosives. He said that he didn't want to provide that knowledge. I said he provides information on other oxidizers, so it isn't much of a difference. He said he doesn't want to be responsible and that I wasn't the "right type of person" to be watching his channel

  • sorry to hear that, even though explosive cobonatiosn and info is public knowledge you cant blame him for not wanting to post the info...I mean you specificaly sais explosive...

  • WOW

  • we did this in science last year its so cool

  • We use such methods in marine archaeology. It's quite amazing.

  • thats amazing :D

  • That was sick!

  • Fockin excellent!

  • the voice is a little creepy

  • nurdrage is great chemist. learned alot from him.

  • That's amazing!

  • interesting...I never seen something like this before. I usually do it by hand. But still have to poish it up a bit I'm assuming.

  • What is that salution made of?

  • he says it in the video, its water, salt and baking soda...

  • Proportions?

  • @cutlerylover you lie! lol. He say salt and baking soda. He dont say water. He left out water. What if someone mistaked this for sulfuric acid? lol. :P

  • good stuff i dont want my silver to be tarnish but i am looking forward to trying this out and i will check out nurdrage's channel too

  • I was an electroplater for 23 years and didn't know this. 5 stars

  • where does the tarnish go?

  • I guess it evaporates or gets mixed in with the solution, if you did it a bunch of tiems Im sure the solution would get dark and merky...

  • tarnished silver is essentially sulfur bonded with the silver. When the electrochemical process occurs, the sulfur is transferred from the silver to the aluminum.

  • Thats like asking where a magician's assistance goes. They disappear. Poof.

  • lol. sounds like jigsaw from the saw series.

  • WOW that was crazy

  • that was coolio 55555555/555555555555
