  • @herbap0tamuss.... Cereal man?????? Chet Atkins direct quote: "Scotty plays Chet better than Chet...".... Yes he did in fact say that... and i wouldn't consider there to be any "bad notes" as Scotty never misses A ONE ;) ... He's a wonderful man and the most talented player to ever touch the guitar... Trust me I know him :)

  • @belewguitar

It's all good. Chet's my great uncle. You back your friend, I'll back my fam:)

  • @jonjacquemoud Funny,

I never heard Chet cover those guys.

  • Those poor camels... driven to death by a mad caravanist!

  • the guy behind scotty has a boner ;lol

  • @buernoob WTF r u talking about u can play better post it !!

  • Good, but just proof why Chet was the best, not because of his speed or technical ability which he most certainly posessed, but rather his ear. Chet only played the good notes!

  • @herbap0tamuss I totally agree. Chet found only the best notes and played them beautifully. He really loved the tone of the guitar. Sometimes he omitted playing anything and threw in breaks only to play the most beautiful arpeggios or runs afterwards. A true genious

  • The best ever!!!!!!!

  • Anderson's version is technically and acoustically much better than the one of Morgen..

  • I'm sure he only got there by his gifted musicality and intoxication through the sound of his guitar. He must have lost the sense of time sitting for hours each day ... if you hear this sound you don't want to quit !

  • i am blown away!

  • That's it! I quit.

  • This man is simply put. a fucking genius. Along with Guthrie Govan and Shawn Lane I'd say this man (along with the previously mentioned 2) are the most incredible guitar forces to have ever graced this unworthy planet.

  • @Opeth1290 perhaps throw Bireli Lagrene and Sylvan Luc in there?

  • @Opeth1290 Perhaps Bireli Lagrene and Danny Gatton to?

  • @Kingding6 There sure have been a lot of great ones, haven't there? That's why I love the guitar. I mean, all great tenor players sound like Coltrane and Brecker these days. I could think of 15 guitar geniuses who don't sound like each other and Scotty is one of them.

  • Thumbs up!

  • uh...damn! Watching Scotty do that to my guitar would be like watching a highly skilled porn star making love to my wife.... Both my guitar and my wife would never be satisfied with me again! LOL!

  • This video is a must see for all guitarists!!!

  • holy mother-I got a cramp just watching this amazing musician. all my stuff up for sale tomorrow

  • 1:26-1:30

    Oo

How the HELL does he play that harmonizing every single note?

I mean, I don't think he picks both strings with a single stroke, 'cause that wouldn't sound smooth like that.

The strings actually sound simultaneous, how the hell...?

Literally amazing - I really don't know what am I dealing here, hahahahaha.

  • @tiguilherman

nevermind, just found this video that explains it all, for those with the same question in mind:

    watch?v=tTbDliMEn9g

    Amazing, amazing player.

  • @tiguilherman oh shit, you found it hahahaha. sorry

  • @tiguilherman hybrid picking my man :) makes synching complex string skipping patterns (that would otherwise melt your wrist simply picking) quite easy so long as you practice, practice, practice.

  • @tiguilherman if you're talking about what he does at 1:26, he's holding the thumb pick like a normal flat pick. he picks one string with the thumb pick and at the same time picks the adjacent string with the fingernail of his index finger to get two attacks at the same time. he explains it in his hot licks video.

  • its Kenny Powers!

  • @Fillips74 HAHAHAHAHAHAAHHA i totally see it.

  • Wow

  • be extremely careful! If you listen to this too much you won't be able to go back to the guitar wankers you used to like .....sorry, but it had to be said.

  • BEST...!

  • Man! What a discovery! Scotty Anderson is GOOD. And he plays like...well, himself. Great individual style - you know right away who it is. I started listening, and I won't stop! Scotty Anderson , fabulous musician.

  • Ala Django Rhinehart???? Va boun!!

  • EPIC

  • This clip is already in my favorites' listing!

  • cool bluegrass caravan.dynamics!huh?

  • scotty is possessed!

  • Well, I don't have anymore questions about where Hank Garland is today.

  • 4 fools disliked it

  • Wowwwwwwwwwwww................fantastic

  • wow... just wow...

speed, accuracy, multi tunes and last but not least harmony... as i said, wow!

  • Faster is not always better. Music is not a race. Where is the emotion and spiritual uplift.? No doubt his technical ability is second to none but there is no happiness or even any fun here. Slow down, smoke a bowl, smell some roses. Enjoy the fact that everyone's mouth is open in awe. Having said this, I wish I could play half that well. Even a third.

  • @bosatsu76 "Faster is not always better" Wow what amazing insight, I have never heard this before!! "Music is not a race" Another incredible observation!! How do you have so much vision? "Where is the emotion and spiritual uplift?" Maybe its got something to do with YOUR perception. "But..there is no happiness or even any fun here." You probably forgot to take your medication "Slow down, smoke a bowl" What great advice!! I am sure he will be delighted to hear it.
  • @hjmann ooooh... sarcasm... sweet. Did you work on it long? I notice you did not address my last two sentences, which praised him highly.

The venue he was in had a lot to do with the speed. He was most likely having fun showing off and putting the scattering of player wannabees like myself in their place.

  • @bosatsu76

Nope he was playing a be bop style version of the song and the licks were also in that vein actually...and they work better at that speed, its that simple.

If you are doing a moody orchestrated version its a different story of course....but he wasn't doing that. Mystery train or rockabilly things are similar... they often have to be played at a certain speed to work nicely, thats just the way it is.

  • @hjmann Well, in that case, rock on dude.. BTW, that wasn't me who spammed your comments. I take my licks when they come and then reflect on myself.

  • His technique and harmonic sophistication are probably at the highest level I've ever witnessed for this style of music. His general musicality is also stunning and inspiring. Rather curious that he's not even mentioned in the various pantheons of guitarists [polls, mags etc], unless I just never registered the name. One certainly would have if there'd been more exposure - even a little. Does/did he maybe not court fame and fortune?

  • @martinjp1958 Nicely said.

He may have been overlooked as the so called experts think Tommy Emmanuel

    is as good as gets.

I would say T E is overated and Scotty underated.

  • @Frank5133 True, scotty is underated, but how is Tommy Emmanuel overrated?

  • @eenhoopzever There both excellent players;I guess it really comes down to the

tunes they play and in this respect I would give Scottie the edge as he seems to

have a better ear for harmonies.

Another skilled guitarist who is worth a vote is Kazumi Watanabe, also perhaps

    overlooked .

  • how about the absolutely face peeling double stop runs at around 1:30? ...back to the shed kids

  • That's an amazing performance! I'd think his leg would be getting tired, though! Heehee

  • I've officially quite guitar as of today. Guitar for sale!!! FREE or best offer!!!

  • I would give my middle nut to be able to play like that...lol

  • WOW!!!!!

  • Scotty is on old school like Chet Atkins,

Jerry Reed, the best style and more difficult! Its only jazz and swing but I like it!

  • In my wildest dreams I could never come up with anything like Scotty's guitar playing . He must be the best player I've ever heard and that's saying a whole lot !

  • So who wants to buy my guitar now that I've witnessed this?

  • unbelievable

  • guru

  • un genie

  • blues riffs donottawaguitar

  • Nice mix of Les Paul and Rosenberg/Reinhardt style. Not too country, not too Gypsy. I like it.

  • This guy makes guitarist cry, because they realize they never are going to be as good as him. Basterd :P

  • I've been playing guitar for a long time and I thought that I was fairly good, now this guy makes me think that I need to start looking for a new hobby. Guys like this are good for your self asteem !!! :-) LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why is YOUTUBE full of critics?

  • Agreed. These youtube critics can't even play the radio, nary a one. They're the flower of their families, bloomin' idiots. You tink your a critic? then I'm talkin' to youse.

    thanks baldana, john4019, et al.

  • let's be advocates, not critics...be cool

  • @baldana because it's anonymous.

  • @baldana

actually, they don't deserve the title of critic. They're just a bunch of frustrated guitarists that can't play like this, so they have to cut people down to make themselves feel better. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

  • Great chops; however, Mason rules!

  • whats up w/ the negativity and knocking all these guitar players? all these guys are pretty damn good so unless you can play better than them and have something to show please stop the idiot comments

  • A little fast, but most smooth. Go Scotty!

  • Scotty is probably The most gifted technical guitar player period.

  • I taught Scotty and Cc Deville everything they know

  • I saw Nokie Edwards of the Ventures play this, but nothing as killer as this.

  • OK we all agree Scotty is great....now how many of you have forwarded this video to a fellow guitar player?? He really deserves more hits here and oh yeah, the dvd is also very very good.....check it out!!

  • I've known about Anderson since the late 80's early 90's? and i always mention him when i speak about greatest american virtuosos. to me he is the double stop king.

  • do you know if there are any other scotty anderson videos with the guy that's playing with him in this vid? that's my grandpa, chuck thompson. he passed a few years back and i was amazed to come accross this video!

  • hi, i believe this clip is from the 1985 yamaha clinic, namm show ca. which i have, they say scotty was in his prime in the mid 80's but if you see him today he is just as great or greater now! just a fantastic guitarist, very fast and clean! scotty, danny and lenny, my 3 all time favorite guitarists! from no2 gatton fan.

  • i like Stochelo Rosenbergs version better but this is also great

  • Amazing!!!! Don't wanna know how much time he spend practising that^^

    This is awesome!!!

  • I firmly agree with right below...

  • probably the best thing i ever heard on youtube!

  • check out uli roth's sails of charon it is an amazing piece

  • agreee but it´s a completely different genre.

I wonder why all the best guitarist are born 1954? Uli Roth, Mike Stern, Al Di Meola, Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, George Lynch, Scotty Anderson

Scotty is the best when it comes to technique no doubt about that.

most people would find it harder to learn how to imrpovise like fullspeed Scotty then any of the other guys

  • Man what a terrible list. Al DiMeola? Seriously man he's one of the worst guitarists I've ever heard. All he does is play the same scale up and down really fast.

  • back in 1975 perhaps, his sense of timing is amazing and he has influenced countless players.

Ted Nugent and Kirk Hammet that´s what I call overrated players.

  • Most musicians would consider this an offence to Di Meola.

  • Good. He deserves it after offending me with his terrible playing.

  • its better to just ignore these guys...its always the guys with no uploads of themselves too lol

  • Yea because we don't have ego problems so we don't have to upload videos on YouTube to justify our existance to a bunch of internet nerds.

  • Comment removed

  • you're a tard sundershmeg..............

  • At least I'm not dumb enough to think Al Di Meola is a good player. Anyone who thinks that guy is even capable of phrasing just doesn't get music.

  • Very true, its much harder to play the way Scotty Anderson does.

  • ..sick!..

  • to get some more hits on this vid....add some tags like: Obama, Clinton, bigfoot, playmate of the year, XXX rated, free money...........he deserves more hits on these videos, a little search engine optimization might work?

  • Great Comment!

  • hot shit

  • this is the best guitar playing ive seen aside from some of those flamenco guys !

    thnx for sharing

  • Scotty will be playing at a little place in Greenhills Ohio called the bearcat grille on Friday night January 21st. You won't want to miss this guitar god live as you won't believe your eyes and ears. Fantastic !!!

  • Who else's butt got whooped from 1:27-1:30!! :D

  • Scotty dishes out an even more ruthless butt-whoopin' on 'Scotty Anderson and Bob Saxton - Sweet Georgia Brown" at 4.40-5.07. (The rest of the song is a piece of cake..)

  • Time to burn all our guitars guys!

  • This stuff is amazing. Nashville and studio players are some of the best in the world.

  • That's it. I officially Give Up.

  • I said the same thing. Listening to this stuff makes me want to just set down the guitar, back away, and never touch it again.

  • incredible

  • That first part hes playing where he hits the 6th fret with his thumb while barring the top 4 strings with his index finger AND doing the melody is incredibly hard to pull off. (and its the easier sounding part of the song!) Google search the tab of this song and give it a shot. Awesome video

  • This guy was playing (perhaps still is?) Tuesday nights with Rick Kinman at Peecox II in Independence, Northern Kentucky. He is perhaps the best in the world at this style of playing.

  • anyone got tabs for this one?

  • Except for the theme, it's total improv so there aren't any tabs for this.

  • jeepers kaboodle!!

  • Something ELSE!

  • Haven't heard that one on Guitar Hero yet.

  • Guffaw! What is with that thing anyway?

  • wow..!!

  • Flowing and effortless. Amazing!

  • Amazing!!!!!!!

  • Great!

  • WTF IS A B0G?!

  • maybe, badass old guitarist? just a guess

  • lol

  • b0g.

  • b0g <3

  • b0g invasion!

  • b0g!

  • B0G

  • B0g FTW,

  • b0g ftw!!

  • b0g

  • yeah you tell them b0ggers, mate

  • i gotta stop whacking off & practice my guitar a bit more

  • Fucking b0ggers.

  • One word...Freaking Amazing

  • Unreal stuff...danny gatton....scotty....chet....THIS GUY could be #1....or #3....or number 99 in the whole guitar world starting in 1954..... Does it get any harder than this? Simple a miracle of human existance...... gretsch white falcon is THE BEST looking guitar ever...no arguement there....

  • I had the pleasure of doing clinics with Scotty when I worked for Yamaha in 80's, I was actually standing just off to the side in this clip.

Chuck is playing guitar along side. We all worked for the DGA Division. Great player.'

Thanks for the licks Scotty, Dr. Rick Jervis.

  • rickjervis WOW I wish I could have been there. Of all the shows and footage I've seen of Scotty the 80's Namn show is easily the most impressive. The 96 Caas was good too but not as good as the Yamaha clinic. I know John Basford who played rythm with Scotty at that show on few songs.mastercollector

  • hi, i stumbled upon this video, and was wondering if you know of anymore that have chuck thompson in them? he's my grandfather and he passed away about 5 years ago. i cried when i came accross this video and would love to see more!

  • how old is this recording?

  • cheesedips, I was told by a guy who played that day it was 1985. mastercollector

  • As much as I liked Danny Gatton, this guy is in another league.

  • EJsigstrat I agree, Scotty is technically the most perfect player ever;and Lenny Breau probably the most difficult style ever, and Danny Gatton the most drop jawed/mind boggling improvised chops ever!!! mastercollector

ps I think the cleanest ever are Johny Smith, Jimmy Bryant, and Scotty Anderson.

  • I'd like too see Scotty & Tommy Emmanuel play together

  • I'd like too see Scotty & Tommy Emmanuel play together

  • Scotty is like the alpha and omega of all that is guitar lol! I wish he would break down his playing a bit slower so I can snag some riffs and start up my own machine!

  • Danny was very gimmicky and a great deal of his impressive showmanship was simply shtick and tricks. Scotty has more substance IMHO.

  • neojohn44 although I have to admit Scotty, Lenny Breau, and Wes Montgomery are probably the best I have to disagree with you about Danny being all tricks. I've seen ALOT of footage ;and probably more than most; trust me; and Danny does some wicked playing without tricks. Check out these 3 shows: 88 Gallaghers, 88 club Soda, and 88 Birchmere.

  • Danny's certainly not ALL tricks...he was a great artist, but I think that a lot of folks that don't have a good understanding of guitar technique idolize Danny for the wrong reasons.

  • Awesome!

  • woah!

  • xms32-"i play better than 70%" is not a comparison?

  • Scotty A is the best, IMO, guitarist around. Saw Danny live years ago and he was fun Gatton used the "hybrid" picking style (flat pick + fingers) and tho it is potentially fleeter for strict leads, it is ultimately physically limiting. Scotty's thumb-flat pick approach (probably a Herco pick) , frees up those pesky tendons attached to the ring finger, and this right hand power cannot be matched by hybrid picking. Brent Mason too uses this full handed technique.

  • ijoan bla bla bla what are you a scientist? Yeah I get it Scotty is the jmost technically perfect player ever we all know that but Lenny Breau is a better guitarist figure that one out? And due to his genious of improvisation and style Danny Gatton is the most thriling and spectacular player ever PERIOD!!!Lets see Scotty hybrid better than Danny did; sorry pal can;t be done.mastercollector

  • damn!!!

  • we played this song in our school jazz band years ago...obviously scotty shreds our version haha

  • he is playing tonight and i'm going 7-6-07

  • That would have been the concert in Colrain Park. Huh? I was there too. He is playing in Lawrenceburg IN Aug. 9th at their music on the river concert.

  • I had a chance to be front row at a Dany Gatton show and was blown away. I have never seen Scotty live but if I ever get a chance... I'll be there :-)

  • Hey Scott, who's this young guy impersonating you? lol

  • That's right Mr Formula 351. Great admiration for each other. Now Danny has gone, Scotty is most likely the greatest Tele player alive. Pick up all the live Gatton you can - it's genius.

  • I just admire your style of playing. Just keep it up. Great!!

  • Danny Gatton was aware of Scotty and his ability and like most, he was amazed as well.

  • Incredible! There was only one other guy who could play like this and maybe surpass Scotty at this style and that was the unbelievable DANNY GATTON.

  • Not many people know this, but Scott and Danny were getting to be good friends and were planning to put an album together just before Danny passed. Scotty took the news pretty bad and thats when he deceided to "reinvent" himself.

  • Danny and Scottie used to talk for hours on the phone about the ups and downs of the music bussiness. Scottie doesn't think he is in the Gatton/Breau class, but Danny thought Lenny was the best too. They all like each other and are modest. master collector

  • i've seen you post this on almost all of scotty's video's. are you a representative for the danny gatton family? I absolutely loved danny's playing and still do today. There's no way danny ever played as clean as scotty did. sorry to burst your bubble.
