It still is a very bizzare setting, I would say better than the trash Bayreuth has been hurling out at people since the Wagner girls have taken over,,i have given up my tickets to Bayreuth after this season, i was hoping things would get better, good music, baddd productions.
Sehr gut! Great costumes/set--medivial as Wagner set it--not the Chereau trash style so prevalent in the world's opera houses. This is a perfect myth!--doesn't need to be set in a victorian house or factory as elswhere! Ban Chereau and his techno lackies!!!
Cheryl Struder's voice is amazingly pure. Listen from 2:55 onwards... And then there is the perfect moment at 3:08... And then the beautiful "Nun sei bedankt mein lieber Scwann"... Actually you know what? Scratch that - this is close enough to perfection for me. Thanks for that wonderful production!
Dont quite agree with the disco-like light appearing during Lohengrin's approach and the strangely shaped swan accompanying him, otherwise the staging is really impressive with its brilliant costumes , colors and mise en scene, conveying the deep mystical mood of this piece.

Looks like Russia instead of Germany.

@xylantrope the setting is Antwerpen, Belgium (in that time the capital of Brabant), that's why the story goes about Elsa van Brabant
