I wasn't there that night but I saw one of their earlier shows at Winterland. Absolutely phenominal. This band with torbert, was incredible. I remember being tremendously impressed.
This is the best example of what the original Kingfish line up was like live. The band was tight, the vocals and harmonies were great. Robbie Hoddinott was just killer and really drove the band and elevated the shows--not with speed, but with his ideas, his timing, the odd notes that caught your ear, and the ability to structure a perfect solo that held your interest, but was different than the last show. Whew!
Im guessing it was around 1976- saw Kingfish (this band) at the student union ballroom in Amherst MA at U-Mass- It was a couple hrs before the show- Me and my friend Ray R were on pleasant st in Amherst. we saw Robbie stumbling down the street. We approached him. He was fkd up. He asked us if we could get him some "Douche" Had no idea of what he was saying. When KIngfish took the stage, Robbie was not on it-20min later he appeared- Weir was visably pissed. It was a priviledge to meet him anyway.
Thanks so much for posting this gem of a video. So great to see Robbie playing - one of my favourite guitarists ever and also Dave Torbert (RIP). PLEASE PLEASE POST MORE OF THIS IF YOU HAVE IT!! I know this band meant a lot to a lot of people and this is the best way of giving them the recognition they deserve in music history.
Hey man, thank you so much for uploading classic-lineup Kingfish. Just about fell out of my chair -- I've been looking and hoping for this stuff for years. Robbie Hoddinott is one of the most unsung guitar heroes... great to see him blazing in his element.
Thanks again for this -- and all your awesome uploads. Wouldn't complain if there might be more Kingfish available for upload ;). That said, this alone is a gem that I'll wear out (if you can do that with a digital file!).
