Those words cut through time and space and because of His death and Resurrection we live...My God, My God Why have you forsaken me? This Temple of Gods Wisdom will forever praise Jesus Christ the Son of the most high living God...That can never be taken from Hagia Sophia...we pray together as sons and daughters for the good of all.....
Hagia Sophia is a museum. In the middle of the muslims. But, int a strange way, my hard thinking it be ours again. I dont now how, i dont now when. But it's my secret dream...to see Ortodox liturghy again, to heard our greatless imns again. God bless our ortodox churches. Constantinopoli piso!
The Hagia Sophia is a symbol of peace today. It was built by the mighty Christian heart and secured by the Muslim soul. A unifying bond, I pray, may come soon.
what can a man say against this... there is no words, only a open mouth... you are a glowing light young man, preserve that spirit... i can hear you eventhough i can´t speak your language, greek language is a new child to me... you make faces with this hymn, faces in others, i know my reaction to this, i looked like the smallest man at earth. i wish we danes had understood religion, activated is it when you loose your love, isn´t it right ?
ignorant people like didgeridoo or flying toothpaste is the reason why our christianity is getting smaller and smaller in eastern europe and asia!let the islam came in we are free man for the next 30 years till muslims are more than us christians and than i will see mr. yankee or english how it feels we greeks know it hundreds of years ago now its your turn to fight against pressure and slavery by islam!have a good time!thats not the war of greece!we have paid enough with blood and tears
The West has some major responsibility with this. Due to 911 and the US occupation of Iraq and the war in Afganistan, the West bends over backwards to tell the world how tolerant, peaceful and kind that Islam is, while turning a blind eye to Turkey and the state of Hagia Sophia.
The previouse comment was written by an ignorant nerrow-minded person which pretends to be an expert without any knowledge of the subject. Hagia Sophia must be restored to its proper religious role as a church. It is very important for the Greek Orthodox Church as well as for all Orthodox people of the world. It will be just at last. Hagia Sophia, we pray and support You to be church again and forever!
dude... it's just a building, it's dust, mortal, it's vain. You shouldn't desire something that was build with the money of corrupt churches. Richess and stone has nothing to do with prayer and worship. You don't need a golden altar to pray to God. Besides, why would you pray to God to return it to the Orthodox? Haven't we all got the same God? And you're still free to visit it, aren't you? Thomasgordy, how can a building be the prison of the mind? *sigh* man can be so foolish and self-centered
Hagia Sophia can never be a Musem, it can never be a mosque, only in their imagination, our early fathers of the Church Consecrated the Cathedral Hagia Sophia (To Christ) that day a Holy Mystery took Place, that can never be undone, Hagia Sophia belongs to Jesus ! If the Ottomans beleive that he will not be back or that he will let them keep his house forever they are in denial of the one and only true God.of which they are ofcourse!
@Colts4ever123 There are too many divisions in Orthodoxy, for any real army to form, to take on the Turkish Military. What you could do thou, is try to buy back Ag Sofia from the Turkish Government. Its a long shot, but it could work ;)
I think that the Ortodoxy has the most rich tradition and has the greatiness sympathy to sinner . it is important to be a god person and to not judge no one...
I have to respectfully disagree with FalanxKnight. To say that a service served in another language (Greek,Latin,Arameic) to be heresy is a little much. The church service should be in the language of the country it happens to be in. As you are Catholic I respect your opinion, but I know that certain Orthodox Christians believe that the services should remain in Greek (or Slavonic) although they are currently in America. This is not an Orthodox belief. Many of the Saints' actions prove that.
Dalmatian Catholics believe that Classical Arameic, Latin & Greek are 3 holiest Languages in the World..Hence, to keep services in any unrelated languages is Heresy.
so the orthodox dont hold their church services here? what takes place here now? was the church converted to a mosque(islam)? Sorry i dont know much, hope someone can fill me in. thanx :)
Saint Sophia (Αγία Σοφία) was originally constructed as a church between A.D. 532 and 537. In 1453, Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks and has to be converted into the Mosque. At that time, the church was very dilapidated. For almost 500 years the building served as a model for many of the Ottoman mosques (ex.Blue Mosque of Istanbul). In 1935, the first Turkish President and founder of the Republic of Turkey, transformed the building into a museum.
The Turks call it a museum, but I think of it as a special kind of prison, for it not only locks away the sacred space from the Orthodox faithful, but it also locks them outside, and are we not surely in prison when we are kept apart from The Body of Christ (of course, I use this as a metaphor, for one temple does not change our status in The Body of Christ, but for we who are Orthodox faithful, to be denied access to this wonderful sacred space is to be restrained just as prisoners are.

Constantinopolis was the Holy City,
the City of Dreams...
Constantinopolis will come back...
I'm sure of it,
so be of good courage my brothers, and be sure that the blood shed of our fathers is priceless in the eyes of God.
Don't be afraid, Our God is Alive, and is above all...
and if darkness thought that it's victorious for a moment, smile at its face, witnessing that our Lord Jesus is Risen.
God bless you all.
