Love Marc's speech here... hate the repeating of certain words and phrases (seem like record skips) he used during the speech that was edited in... seems a little amateurish. (Just pick one, just pick one, just pick one... yeah, I heard the first time... it's like a bad DJ).
So I just want to state my observation that the breakup was over the original agreement that Marc would give up his Anarchist tendencies. This had always been a deal breaker for Robert and so when Marc relapse or allowed his true colors to show, Robert flew the coop. And I dont blame him. Marc was justified in making his decision to follow his beliefs and so was Robert. It was a fair separation.
Well, almost: Marc was the person who left Freedom Party, not the reverse. Marc is true to his word and, having decided that he no longer wanted to promote the sort of governance that Freedom Party advocates, he quite honourably decided to end his association with the party. But everything was quite friendly and amicable between Marc and Robert. In fact, Marc was on Robert's radio show a few weeks back.
Ill have to look this up, if you want me to prove it, but I remember my preacher teaching one time that Jesus Himself broke the Sabbath Law by healing someone on the Sabbath. When Jesus was taken to court He used the defense that He wasnt wrong by healing on the Sabbath but rather it was the law that was wrong. My point is, Jesus can be counted with others who affected change by breaking (unjust) laws.
Though I consider myself a born-again-and-then-once-more-again atheist, I do remember quite a bit of the Bible, and you are absolutely correct; Jesus was accused of breaking the Sabbath.
`One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?"`
That may be true, however many of Jesus' teachings were very much conformist. All his teachings about slaves obeying masters, and not being rich etc were the kind of talk designed not to make the rulers too angry at him for preaching. Rulers like it when people have some fantasy cult which tells people that they will be rewarded in the next life for letting the emperor walk on their backs in this one, and poor people like it because they're afraid
Sam26100: Personally, I think there is more to the story than that, but, at the same time, I think it is prudent to keep an open mind; I might learn something.
@kindly4real Not only correct on that part, but Jesus mostly fought the ten commandments. This was part of the reason he was condemned. I'm not a Christian, but I wouldn't mind Christianity if they actually read their book. There are only two commandments in Christianity; Love God, Love Thy Neighbor. Christianity fails miserably on both accounts.
Marc was right, FP is wrong. Trying to change things through the 'democratic process' isn't going to get you anywhere. Since this time, Marc as joined and created new political parties. I think I understand the tatic though its hard to see a freedom fighter working with the NDP and Greens.
Emery made the error a lot of people do when looking at history. History is presented as a series of events which inevitably lead to another event. What is ignored is that philosophy determines how the people interpret these events. All those lawbreaking actions worked because the people had the sense of justice and the idea of rights to recognize when things needed to change. Without that, the lawbreakers could easily have been jailed and forgotten.
@ezze902 There are still a few copies of the 1989 Calendar at Freedom Party headquarters. The 1988 Calendar: I know of only one copy...the one that appears in the movie.
Democracy gives u the opportunity to let others judge whether u have the best ideas or not.
Even if u don´t win, minorities are supposed to get a proportional representation. This doesn´t exist in the USA thanks to bipartisanship. And that´s what makes you libertarians so frustrated. Can´t even put one single man in Washington.I don´t see why being ruled by a minority should be less scary than being ruled by a majority.
Democracy sucks because it means unlimited majority rule and fosters a system in which ones work, ones property and ones mind are at the mercy of this majority vote. This is a direct violation of individual, human rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness - not as defined by the American Constitution, but as defined by the the logical, metaphysical requirements of existence.

Democracy "sucks" when you can´t win elections. Funny.
jlgilesrivera 2 years ago
Right.
In pure democracy, if you get ambushed by thugs then it's ok for them to hurt you because they can out-vote you (read: outnumber you).
It means that the only people who count as people are the ones who win elections. Does that sound like equality to you?
Anyway, of the 3 posts so far on this vid there are 2 against democracy & only one for it. lol democracy has been outvoted!
